With great sadness Karen and I learned just a few minutes ago that Andrew Breitbart, 43, has passed away.
Andrew was going to be the featured speaker at this year’s Ariel Avrech Memorial Lecture this coming June. His topic: The Mainstram Media’s Betrayal of Israel.
It was a measure of this man’s goodness and generosity that when offered a speaker’s fee Andrew told us to donate the money to the charity of our choice.
Andrew was a friend, an American patriot, a proud Jew. Our shock and grief are deep.
To Andrew’s family:
Ha’makom yenahem etkhem betokh she’ar avelei Tziyon vi’Yerushalayim
May God console you among the other mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.

Ariel Chaim Avrech, ZT'L, May His Righteous Memory be a Blessing.

Karen and I are grateful for all your comments. We will miss Andrew and hope that his wife and children will, some day, find some measure of comfort in knowing how profoundly Andrew touched all our lives.

Boruch Dayan HaEmes.
I met Breitbart at an after-event party in 2006 with Free Republic when Ann Coulter had just taped the Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Spoke with him for about a half hour. Great guy. Lived up to Sun Tzu’s credo of when an enemy is quick to anger to infuriate him.
I wish I had a fraction of his courage in getting in the face of the left.

Baruch dayan ha’emeth. Andrew was a man of such courage. Though I didn’t know him personally it’s clear he never backed down from doing the right thing despite the backlash and retaliation of his enemies on the left. I used to relish watching him dismantle the occupy movement and the hypocrisy of the democrats. He was someone who cared deeply about his country and being fully aware of the urgency of the moment, he was all in for the fight. I was not aware he was Jewish–but in retrospect, having observed from afar his stubborn tenacity and willingness to go the limit in defending conservative values, it comes as no surprise to me.
I wish his family my deepest condolences. His shoes will never be filled but we can all take inspiration from his example.

The good news is that Andrew was never shy about getting others involved and sharing the spotlight. His Big sites are a good example where he let his editors and contributors do a lot of the pushback against the liberal media. When he started Big Hollywood I remember his intention was to not cede Hollywood and the pop culture to the liberals. He was always willing to fight for his beliefs.
Robert, your comment about him not taking a payment for his services seems so typical. I would bet there are many similar stories you and others can tell revealing his true nature which can’t be matched by any of the kos kids.

This news is just so depressing. I never met him but I knew he was someone you would want next to you in battle. Dana Loesch said it best – he was a lion.
RIP Andrew. You will be missed.

When I first heard this news a few hours ago, I was shocked.
To be only 43 years old.
At this time in my life I have come to the realization of the fragility of life, and we are all here for such a short time.
I have had that sad reminder several times in my life; that we are here only by G*d’s grace.
What I remember about Andrew – was his fearlessness at showing the world his beliefs, and his civility and cordiality to even his most ardent detractors.
Plus, he was a merry prankster.
I remember him going on the Bill Maher show and he was polite to both a hostile host and audience.
For such a short time on this world he had a profound influence on countless numbers of people.
