Liberty in Hollywood
The winds of change are blowing through Hollywood.
The voices of sanity are being raised in the creative community. I'd like all my readers to be aware of the Liberty Film Festival. This article gives just a brief rundown on the events but you should go to the home page and definitely buy tickets.
I have spoken with Govindini Murty and Jason Apuzzo, co-directors of the festival. They are incredibly tenacious, dedicated and smart. The work they are doing is most important. Hollywood movies are powerful propaganda tools and have the potential to influence millions of people.
The Libert Film Festival is the anti Hollywood Film Festival.
If you love America this is the fesival for you.
If you love Israel this is the festival for you.
If you love truth this is the festival for you.
If you love movies this is the festival for you.
There comes a time when a dominant political ideology morphs into a dictatorship of thought. There comes a time when even common language becomes so debased that simple words such as "terror" and "terrorist" no longer have any meaning.
Why?
Because moral equivalence has so corrupted a segment of society's notions of good and evil. In fact, Liberalism has become so intolerant that it now chokes off dissent.
Liberals are simply tyrants dressed in Dolce Gabbana.
And so there is nothing for good men and women to do but throw themselves upon the gears of this odious machine. Liberals and Liberalism are the voices of appeasement. Hollywood Liberals bear a grave responsibility; their disgraceful response to 9-11 and to the global War on Terror has been to capitulate to Islamic pressure groups and cast their movies with what? The old reliables: Neo-Nazi Terrorists (practically non existant), Irish Terrorists (who have, by the way, surrendered armed struggle.) Gosh what will we see next, Icelandic Terrorists?
Hollywood depicts every form of terrorist but the ones who are out there every single day murdering innocent men, women and children -- Islamic Terrorists. If not for the Jihadists we see on the fine TV series "24" one would get the impression that the Muslim world is a force for peace in the world instead of the stew of state sponsored torture, terror, murder and destruction it truly is, if not by deed, then by its pitiless silence.
It's odd, I've never ever heard one liberal express horror that not one of the twenty-two Arab states on the face of this planet have any Jewish citizens, nor would tolerate a Jewish citizen. In fact, these deeply racist Arab societies have all rid themselves of their Jewish populations -- Yemen, Iraq, Egypt, Algeria, Libya, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey -- first confiscating (stealing) their property and then physically expelling nearly a million Jews, thereby putting an end to communities whose glorious origins go back as far as the third century BCE.
Liberals seem not bothered at all by these evil Islamic anti-Semitic state policies. One can only surmise that Liberal education and a fanatical belief in what has become a debased multi-culturalism leaves the Liberal no choice but to excuse Islamic societies that are Judenrein.
No, Liberals are too busy protesting the Jewish presence on the West Bank. Which, by the way, always makes good copy for Al Jazeera. Make no mistake about it, our enemies recognize "useful idiots," (Lenin's label for Western liberals,) when they see them.
And so The Liberty Film Festival rises in the heart of Hollywood to counter Michael Moore's lies, to defeat the defeatists, to arrest appeasers, to announce that not every writer and director and editor and actor and cameraman is an unthinking drone who follows the liberal party line.
Oh yes, I have been asked to introduce a wonderful Israeli film Entering Zion by two rising young documentary filmmakers K'fir Alfia and Alan Lipton of the Protest Warriors.
The film will screen Sunday, October 23, 2005, from 10:00am to 11:15am, with a ten minute Q&A afterwards. I will be doing a five minute introduction to the film, and moderate the Q&A with the filmmakers afterward.
I hope that many Seraphic Secret readers will attend this wonderful film festival.

Seraphic Secret is private property, that's right, it's an extension of our home, and as such, Karen and I have instituted two Seraphic Rules and we ask commentors to act respectfully.
1. No profanity.2. No Israel bashing. We debate, we discuss, we are respectful. You know what Israel bashing is. The world is full of it. Seraphic Secret is one of the few places in the world that will not tolerate this form of anti-Semitism. That's it. Break either of these rules and you will be banned.
I am pleased to see the classic film "We the Living" will be screened. That film is on my list of films to see (alas, Netflix doesn't have it yet in stock).
Not surprisingly, the film was banned by Mussolini. My paternal grandfather was blacklisted because he refused to join the Fascist Party. He despised the Fascists and everything they stood for. The only people he hated even more were the Nazis. I know that if he were alive today he would recognize Islamo-Fascist as the evil force it is. I'd like to think that any little bit of clarity I may have I got from him.

Tamara:
Thanks so much for your comment. I saw "We the Living" many years ago and it made a huge impression on me. I look forward to seeing it again. Your grandfather must have been a great man. May his memory be a blessing and an ispiration for us as we fight the barbarian Islamo-Fascists.

Sounds like a great event. Maybe a turning point? I won't hold my breath.

Steve:
The importance of this festival cannot be overstated. Change in Hollywood will not happen overnight, but it will happen, of this I am convinced.
Posted by: Robert Avrech at October 6, 2005 04:43 PM
If I were within 2000 miles of the event, I'd go just to show support.

Steve:
Thanks so much for your copmment. I know that you live kind of far away. Your moral support is greatly appreciated. I'm going to blog further about some of these fine conservative filmmakers and I'll post their websites. Thus you will be able to order their films online, thereby supporting their important work and their ahavat Yisroel. Have a lovely and meaningful Shabbat.

I so wish I could go to your event but I'll be out of town then. Thanks for bringing this festival to our attention. What an amazing thing. Maybe there is hope for Hollywood. Maybe.

I would love to attend, as you and Steve both say, just to show support. I believe that Hollywood is a powerful force, and that only the consumer has the power to change tide. I do live a bit far away, though... Too bad, as I would love to be able to make a (small) difference.

Where there are artists and craftsmen, there is always hope. Thanks so much for your kind thoughts.

Robert, I look forward to reading your further blog postings on these conservative artists. As you have mentioned it is so important to make sure they receive the publicity and notoriety they richly deserve. Unfortunately, I am the victim of rotten timing, as I would have been front row center for an event like this.....hopefully, the films that are screened will be available for purchase or rent.

Lance:
I'm pretty sure that all the films will be available on DVD. I'll be following up and let Seraphic Secret readers know.

I really wish you the best at this festival, it sounds meaningful, which above all the political stuff, is the kind of entertainment Hollywood is really lacking.
But nan, reading this post gives me deja vu. Is Hollywood very left-wing? Sure it is... but that's like problem #10 on the top 10 list of its problems. Mostly it's just stupid, vulgar, and rewards people who embody stupidity and vulgarity. Assigning some kind of political tinge to that is a joke, because political thought, even the wrong-headed kind, is really above these louts.
So too is the case in my profession, the news media. Every time we get accused of being politically left wing, the accusers are actually overestimating our even more reprehensible goals and lack of requisite knowledge to form an opinion of any kind.

It is good to know you are not the only voice of reason in Hollywood.
Too bad I live so far away. I would attend in a heartbeat. Sounds fabulous, actually.

This sounds wonderful, refreshing, and long overdue, and I'm excited that some voices of sanity are becoming louder in the creative community.
But you are far more generous than I, in your optimism about Hollywood changing.
"Commander in Chief" is a propaganda piece created by former Clintonites aimed at planting the seeds for Hilary's run at the Presidency in 2008.
And while I have noticed several new military themed films are soon to be released, Hollywood's sudden infatution with all things military, EXCEPT our military, is yet another example of the hypocrisy that permeates from the within this bastion of liberal elitists.
"Jarhead", "Annapolis", "The Battle For Fallujah", and Generation Kill, on the big screen; "Over There" and "E-Ring" for TV, are blantant attempts to rake in big dollars by appealing to the large base of Americans who DO support this war on terror. And with all their coinage they make from these films, they can continue to support Cindy Sheehan(oooopppss...she fell out of favor with Dems since she attacked Hilary Clinton), Code Pink(o), and more trips by Sean Penn to shake hands with mullahs, mass murderers, dictators, and theocrats, and Donald Sutherland to denounce the evil empire that is America, and its evil leader, George Bush.
Not a cent made from these films will go to help the families of those in Iraq and Afghanistan, or towards marching in the streets AGAINST Jihad, AGAINST Suicide Bombers, AGAINST the daily assaults on children and women in Iraq, AGAINST the Saddomite gangsters who walked into an Iraqi school on Sept 26th and killed five shite teachers in front of terrified school children, and who have laid out a four point plan to kill Shites, Jews, Christians, and any other Arabs who won't live under their theocracy.
Im sorry Robert, but too many people, with too much power in Hollywood will still continue to support these Islamo facist murderers, convinced that the true enemy is a conservative republican.
The Hollywood elites dispise our military, our President, our war on terror, but do not think twice about producing films to make money off the blood and sweat of the men and women serving in a war that they rally AGAINST, while idolize mullahs and pretending that our soldiers, as well as Iraqi soldiers and civilians, are being killed by "romantic national insurgents".
The winds of change, Robert, are going to have to blow awfully hard.

Huntress:
You are right. The winds of change wil have to blow hard. But for Hollywood, this Festival is good news and I for one welcome it. We have to start somewhere.

They have a screenplay competition too.
