Hollywood Gets it Right
Isn't it nice when Hollywood gets it right for a change. Much thanks to Seraphic friend Elliot Ganz for sending me this piece.
Yehudit at Kesher has a wonderful roundup of "United 93" articles at her always fine blog.
And here is Debbie Schlussel's rave review of the film. Thanks to Seraphic friend Michael Makiri for sending this to me.

Seraphic Secret is private property, that's right, it's an extension of our home, and as such, Karen and I have instituted two Seraphic Rules and we ask commentors to act respectfully.
1. No profanity.2. No Israel bashing. We debate, we discuss, we are respectful. You know what Israel bashing is. The world is full of it. Seraphic Secret is one of the few places in the world that will not tolerate this form of anti-Semitism. That's it. Break either of these rules and you will be banned.
There are some who have said that it is 'too soon' to release this movie. Yet, as Deroy Murdock points out in his fine review of the film at NRO, "Too soon? This story never stopped."

Robert, READ the post I sent you. It's disturbing. I want the Hollywood insider's view.

Yehudit:
I have been reading it and am aware of what's going on. This is Hollywood being Hollywood. What can I say? Universal wants to have it both ways. They are embarrassed by the resounding good reviews the film is getting from the Conservative press.

Even the mainstream press is giving it good reviews.
:-)
Do you think Universal published that "why do they hate us?" site to protect against fatwas? in any case, I think it's a good idea to publicize what they are doing. I already read one person to say that the moral equivocation of that site lessened their interest in seeing the film! The difference in attitude between the two sites is night and day.

Yehudit:
In my experience in Hollywood, film and TV, these people are obsessed with being "even-handed." To them it is a religion. They are not concerend with right or wrong, good versus evil, simply with pacifying all public voices. They are just a big multi-national corporation trying to make everyone happy. In the process, the big dummies make no one happy. It's a shame for they have a chance to make history here and they are running away from it.

Yehudit:
I would not give the promotions department any free publicity about the way they may or may not be trying to dilute the film's powerful true message. Let the film speak for itself, which is what it is doing. Even one of my most liberal co-workers at CNN saw it a few weeks ago and thought it was very excellent.
I'm afraid I am a little too weak to see it just yet, but I will try a few months down the road. Too many people I know died that day.

The movie's official web site has some no-nonsense clips of family members saying why they wanted the film made. I find it hard to believe but it looks like there was unanimous consent from these real people. Knowing those endorsements, I hardly care how many thumbs are up vs. down over "United 93".
Jake: I'm sorry to hear how close to home this is. All I know is that the hijackers and Moussaoui would have been perfectly happy if all of us were on that flight too.

No doubt, no doubt.

Jake,
I'm so sorry to hear that you knew of people who perished in the planes that day - how very painful. I can understand why it would be especially difficult for you to watch that movie.

I wrote on the Kesher site that I don't know if I'm able to see the film - I still start crying when I see a clip of the planes hitting the WTC. The only good thing to come out of the film is if it reminds people why we are fighting Islamic fascism. Actually, I just thought of something. At the end of the film it would be an incredible thing to do - while the credits are rolling - is to juxtapose them with clips of the raving lunatic, the Pres. of Iran.

There's a great editorial at NRO here.
