The Washington Post is a Mistake
According to The Washington Post, Israel is a mistake.
Isn't it amazing that when Israel fights back the antiSemites come oozing out of the walls. And they are immediately given legitimacy by the liberal media.
Pesonally, I think the author of this odious piece is a mistake.
Yehudit, over at Kesher, replies to the moron.
Abba Gav replies to this moron.
Israel Matzav replies to you know who.
Israel at Level Ground weighs in.
Atlash Shrugs publishes a love letter to their antiSemite in-residence.
The WaPo's Ombudsmen would looooove to hear from you. I promise. Her name is Deborah Howell. Drop her a line: ombudsman@washpost.com. Tell her what a fabulous job she's doing, you know, allowing her paper to publish an article that is riddled with historical errors, that surely gladdens the hearts of Jihadists everywhere, that most certainly will make the work of David Duke and his ilk much easier.
Tell her that she should most certainly resign as she is a disgrace to her profession, that she has just published a screed that would not be out of place in the literature of the mad Mullahs of the current Iranian regime.
Oh, yeah, you can also contact the moron here.
Hat Tip, Seraphic Friend Lance for the original article.
Hat Tip Ozzie for all the responses to the Moron.

Seraphic Secret is private property, that's right, it's an extension of our home, and as such, Karen and I have instituted two Seraphic Rules and we ask commentors to act respectfully.
1. No profanity.2. No Israel bashing. We debate, we discuss, we are respectful. You know what Israel bashing is. The world is full of it. Seraphic Secret is one of the few places in the world that will not tolerate this form of anti-Semitism. That's it. Break either of these rules and you will be banned.
Everyone except the Tin Man ("If I had a brain...") is pouncing on this one today:
Yehudit at Kesher, Carl in Jerusalem at Israel Matzav, Nidra Poller at Atlas.
See the comments in each, too.

Fortunately there are large numbers of bloggers taking Cohen to task for his idiotic comments. Yawp!
I have an incomplete list of them on my blog. You can find it here

Robert, it's easy to call him a moron, but I think his argument that Israel is a mistake has more power to it because it is implicitly what the Israeli establishment has accepted for the past 15 years. Some of the elements and philosophies that led to the creation of the state of Israel, namely colonization of a third-world hell-hole, European-style nationalism, are indeed obsolete in the rest of world. If that is all Israel is, it's hard to argue with Cohen. Our only claim left is our promise from God. It doesn't sound politically correct to today's sophisticates in today's political environment. But we should witness how the Muslims' faith-based claims that they spout to justify unwestern behavior (no non-Muslims in Mecca etc.) don't engender Security Council resolutions...
If we weren't such wimps!...

Yehupitz, you forgot the most compelling argument of all, which I emphasize in my fisking: History. Robert has a link, check it out.
Re: "European-style nationalism" is "indeed obsolete in the rest of world."
So the Palestinians wanting their own state is obsolete, what? Likewise Kurdistan, Ireland, etc. And let's dismantle all the fake nations created by the Brits after WWI, like Jordan and Saudi Arabia.

Yehudit:
Not to mention most every whacky state in Africa. My vote goes to Liberia. It was set up by former American slaves. The first thing they did was enslave the indigenous African population.

Yehudit and Robert, you both make a very good point. There is however one major difference that others will pick up on immediately. namely, that the countries you listed are new nations, but that's to be expected when the old empires of the 19th century dissolve. Israeli "colonialism" is the forming of a nation by people who moved there from other places. That's what European colonialism was. I have no problem with this. That's what the USA is made of. But this is the claim they will make...
