Bibi Bests BBC
BBC: How come so many more Lebanese have been killed in this conflict than Israelis?
Netanyahu: Are you sure that you want to start asking in that direction?
BBC: Why not?
Netanyahu: Because in World War II more Germans were killed than British and Americans combined, but there is no doubt in anyone's mind that the war was caused by Germany's aggression. And in response to the German blitz on London, the British wiped out the entire city of Dresden, burning to death more German civilians than the number of people killed in Hiroshima. Moreover, I could remind you that in 1944, when the R.A.F. tried to bomb the Gestapo Headquarters in Copenhagen, some of the bombs missed their target and fell on a Danish children's hospital, killing 83 little children. Perhaps you have another question?

Seraphic Secret is private property, that's right, it's an extension of our home, and as such, Karen and I have instituted two Seraphic Rules and we ask commentors to act respectfully.
1. No profanity.2. No Israel bashing. We debate, we discuss, we are respectful. You know what Israel bashing is. The world is full of it. Seraphic Secret is one of the few places in the world that will not tolerate this form of anti-Semitism. That's it. Break either of these rules and you will be banned.
I love that man.

I think Bibi read my British Bomb Berlin parody article.
The more I think about it, the more we all have to compare our current situation to WW II. Lots of people on Europe sympathized with Germany in the 30's because of the "indignity" it suffered after WW I and the years of economic hardship that followed. It's all so much like the "humiliation" they keep telling us Arabs suffer with now. But NO ONE other than Nazis and Imperial Japanese themselves bellyached about civilian casualties from Allied bombings, (not until after the war in college classrooms, but that can't be avoided).
This is the tack everyone defending Israel must take, especially if the attack on Lebanon escalates.

Netanyahu is a drug. Taken appropriately, he is very healthy. As PM, he is poison.
Thank G-d for him, and let's hope he limits his aspirations to the ministries of Economy and Foreign Affairs.

Does anybody realize that Bibi is using Goebells and David Irving for his WWII history here? Hiroshima killed way more civillians that Dresden. Sick.
Posted by: krum at August 11, 2006 11:35 AM
Well, perhaps he was referring to the total deaths during the entire fire bombing campaign, but yes, the accepted death figure for Hiroshima is 140,000 people while Dresden was probably something like 25,000-50,000 (some Nazi propagandists put the number at 200,000 to 300,000).
BUT I think the point is still quite valid either way you look at it.

i'm not sure i get the comparison - the germans didn't want to die, hizbulla say they love death. the question should be "why hasn't israel killed more of them?"

I think an even better reply would have been the analogy with NATO’s bombings of the Serb forces in Kosovo barely 7 years ago when the NATO authorities themselves admitted:
"Strikes were also complicated by the cynical Serb use of civilian homes and buildings to hide weapons and vehicles, the intermixing of military vehicles with civilian convoys and, sometimes, the use of human shields. In this way, NATO’s concern to avoid civilian casualties was exploited by the Serbs."

Dear Durbant:
You are quite right. An excellent response and we thank you for bringing it to our attention. BTW, your blog looks wonderful, but, alas, we cannot read, Francais. How about a bi-lingual blog?

"How about a bi-lingual blog?"
Well, that would be nice but that would take a lot more time, but you could try babelfish and in fact most of my references are from English-speaking sources and I now try to add English titles to my postings ...
