Suicide of the West
"Since Muslims whose minds are already bent by the propaganda of lies and hatred against America, Israel and the Jews pouring out of the Muslim world are further subjected by the BBC and other media outlets to daily — even hourly — diatribes about the evil of America, the evil of Israel and the fact that Britain is a patsy of evil America and evil Israel, who can possibly be surprised that untold numbers of impressionable young Muslims sign up to rid the planet of this apparent scourge?
"The BBC, whose global influence is equalled only by its culpability, powerfully incites hatred by persistently misrepresenting Israel’s self-defence as unwarranted aggression, and giving air-time to an endless procession of Islamic jihadists, propagandists, anti-Western activists and bigots with rarely even a hint of a challenge.
"The British political and security establishment, meanwhile, still fails to understand that it is not enough to thwart terrorist plots and disrupt terrorist cells but it must also combat the ideology of lies, hatred and paranoia driving certain Muslims to these terrible acts. Not only do they fail to do so, but they have even recruited jihadists into the very heart of government as advisers.
"The mantra justifying this appeasement of extremism is that the vast majority of Britain’s Muslims are “moderate.” True, the vast majority oppose terrorism. But Britain has now effectively defined as a moderate someone who does not support mass murder — and even then, only in Britain."
Melanie Phillips is a brilliant and articulate British journalist. She, perhaps more than anybody else I'm aware of, insists on exposing the self-destructive policies of appeasement and surrender that are on the ascent on the European continent. Her book, Londonistan, should be read by every person concerned about the jihadist threat.

Seraphic Secret is private property, that's right, it's an extension of our home, and as such, Karen and I have instituted two Seraphic Rules and we ask commentors to act respectfully.
1. No profanity.2. No Israel bashing. We debate, we discuss, we are respectful. You know what Israel bashing is. The world is full of it. Seraphic Secret is one of the few places in the world that will not tolerate this form of anti-Semitism. That's it. Break either of these rules and you will be banned.
She's tops, absolutely.

As we see the spread of jihadism etc, we must ask ourselves what I call "The Moynihan Question," which is: what internal weaknesses do the jihadis possess that may help to destroy them on their own, (or through our indirect actions), as the Soviet Union disintergrated because of its own economic weaknesses and the West's decision to exploit them via military buildups.
Unlike the Cold War, I think the West will have to confront Jihadism a little more directly via military means. But again, is there something else we can ALSO do to help them destroy themselves just a little bit?
This is an open question to the Seraphic crowd, I am legitimately curious.

Jake:
Great question. Points of weakness are obvious, unfortunately, the west refuses to move on them.
1. Mosques are recruiting grounds. If an Imam recruits, arrest him, deport him, close up the mosque. There must be consequences if citizens allow their houses of worship to be turned into terrorist weapons.
2. Domestic surveillance. Listening in on domestic calls overseas. The Dems have a huge problem with this. What can I say? My contempt for this party grows daily.
3. Muslim "charities." Shut em down. The only widows and orphans they have anything to do with are the Jewish widows and orphans they create.
4. Border control. Muslim students, and Muslim immigrants must be screened with a fine toothcomb. We know who the terrorists are; let's just zero in on the proper terrorist proflies and do the job properly.
5. Campus Muslim Student Organizations are, for the most part, just anti-Simetic clubs and jihadist recruiting grounds. Infiltrate them with agents. Make arrests. Life sentences for terrorist activities.
6. Exploit the Sunni/Shia split whenever and wherever possible. Never forget that they hate each other with a passion.
7. Be ruthless with them. They only understand power. Never appease, never make any gesture towards "understanding them." The only thing to understand is that we have to destroy them, as many as it takes, as long as it takes.
8. Marginalize groups like CAIR. We all know who and what they really are: the enemy.

All good points. I think the one I was going for the most was your #6: "Exploit the Sunni/Shia split whenever and wherever possible. Never forget that they hate each other with a passion."
This was easy when Iran and Iraq were at war with one another, but we need to do something to make sure Israel and the U.S. don't become the issues that even temporarily unite these guys. What we're seeing in Iraq now seems morbidly encouraging, in that the sunnis and shiites still seem more interested in killing each other than us.

Robert, I had a chance tonight to hear Melanie Phillips speak at the Jewish Community Center in West Bloomfield (suburb of Detroit). There was a crowd of 200-250 people, and she was warmly received. Her talk, about an hour long, was quite brilliant, and her ideas seem both common-sense and radical at the same time. My head was spinning (in a very good way!) from her arguments and discussion points. Can't say enough good things about this lady and her ability to quickly and easily lay out extremely controversial and very complex topics regarding Israel and Islamism and Iran and Iraq and every other topic pertinent to the rise of Muslim extremists. The moderator said at the beginning that she was next on her way to New York, then to California (didn't say where though), and finally to Atlanta before heading home.

Amy:
Thanks for the note. Karen and I plan on attending MP's lecture here in LA. Greatly looking forward to hearing what she has to say.
