At first glance, I would assume that today's Britons are mimicking their 1930's ancestors by basically hoping that giving in to the bad guys will eventually lead to them being left alone. But when you see the anger and hatred being directed at Israel and the Jews in Britain you begin to realize that this isn't just about appeasement. It's about a group of people in society who actively feel they have to "school" everyone else in morality. Well, that's scary no matter who is trying to do the "schooling."

Again, I strongly urge you to read William Manchester's "Winston Spencer Churchill, The Last Lion Alone: 1932-1940." Not only were the British appeasers a bunch of moral cowards, but they were almost all a bunch of miserable anti-Semites. Yup, they blamed the Jews for Germany's troubles. Churchill was almost alone in refusing the British upper class right of anti-Jewish hatred. At his dinner parties, if an anti-Jewish crack were made, he would order the person to leave Chartwell, his home.

Yes, the leading appeasers, especially among the aristocracy, were Jew-haters too. It's one of the reasons why I liked "The Remains of the Day," for showing that without making it a movie about Jewish people, etc. I just think that today's brand of appeasers, are coming from the University class for the most part and more actively "pretending" to be voices of the people, etc.

Back in the 30's the Jew-haters and appeasers also came from Oxford and Cambridge. The over-educated elite are always the last to recognize true evil. They inevitably worry about inconsequential nonsense and claim that its evil. Nothing changes when it comes to moral cowardice. Just variations on a theme. Get the book, it's a wonderful read and a real eye-opener.

I will read it, but weren't the big Jew-haters GRADUATES of "Oxbridge" as opposed to students and current professors at the time? Just asking.

Both. It is endemic to the British upper class. A birth right, if you will.

Reading Melanie Phillips' article made me feel that Britian will go down in flames like France, eventaully, for there is no Churchill-like figure there anymore, and they are even in worse shape than before WW2. Muslims have already started to invade..and the populace not only stands idly by, but often helps, and is deluded to think that were Britian to just dump Israel and the U.S., that the Muslims will be content.

Hitler, of course, didn't stay content with the Sudentland/Slovakia, but even after he took them over, no one moved against him. Why does anyone think the Muslims would stop with Britian not supporting Israel...they have made no bones about making the world Dar al-Islam and under Sharia, including England?

I just get more and more scared. I am not a pessimist or alarmist at heart, but it's hard not to be when reading this sort of thing, and realizing there is no Churchill in sight. (Manchester's book is wonderful, read it some years ago. I think I need to re-read it on your recommendation..I think I will appreciate Churchill that much more now).

The situation in Britain, France and all of western Europe is quite frightening. They blame America and Israel for their troubles, yet never ask why jihad is also being waged against Indonesia, a Muslim country that has no relations with Israel whatsoever. Such is the self-delusion of the morally spineless appeasers who seem determined to surrender their civilization to the barbarians.
