1/2 Hour News Hour: 1.5 Million Viewers!

The news gets even better.

The ratings are in for The 1/2 Hour News Hour on Fox. The heavily-promoted premiere delivered 499,000 viewers in the 25-54 demo and 1,478,000 total viewers.

The show gained about 170,000 demo and around 300,000 total viewers from its lead-in. Half the viewers immediately tuned out, giving The Line Up just 231,000 demo and 787,000 viewers at 10:30pm.

SF Chronicle, Feb. 16: "If 1.5 million viewers watched -- slightly less than Stewart's nightly 1.6 million audience and more than Colbert's 1.2 million -- Surnow said, 'it would be a huge number.'"

-- Update: 10:43am: "The show was definitely popular with Tivo users," an e-mailer says. According to Nielsen's live data, the show averaged 1,398,000 viewers and 442,000 in the demo. The original stats, listed above, are live + same day DVR data, showing that 80,000 total viewers and 57,000 demo viewers time-shifted the show and watched it later in the day.

-- Update: 10:46am: The satire's time slot was up 69 percent in viewers and up 94 percent in the 25-54 demo compared to Q1 '07 to date.

Seraphic Secret is private property, that's right, it's an extension of our home, and as such, Karen and I have instituted two Seraphic Rules and we ask commentors to act respectfully.

1. No profanity.

2. No Israel bashing. We debate, we discuss, we are respectful. You know what Israel bashing is. The world is full of it. Seraphic Secret is one of the few places in the world that will not tolerate this form of anti-Semitism.

That's it. Break either of these rules and you will be banned.

That's good to hear. Some conservatives (like Ace) don't consider it edgy enough for them, but that's probably what you get from watching South Park every week.

As for me? I don't watch the Outer Tubes, unless they're on. That being said, I saw the demo reel thing, (With Ann and Rush) and I thought it was funny.

But then again, I also think Leslie Nielson is funny...

But, it is from what I can tell, 'clean', without being toothless; which is precisely what our society needs.

Would never have found out, thanks for reporting that.

I also think Leslie Nielson is funny.

Let's hope the second show also does well and then the 1/2 Hour News Hour will get picked up by Fox and have a nice run and -- liberals will have yet something else to whine about.

Liebowitz. Too Jewish.

If someone were to ask me if Jon Stewart looked like a Jewish comedian, my first thought would be, "Funny, he doesn't look like a comedian."

Jeremiah:

LOL!

But seriously folks: Stewart may not look like a comedian but he does have great timing—for a self-hating Jew.

I honestly thought this show was terrible. Unlike Joel Surnow, Stewart and Colbert are actually funny and know how to handle subtle satire.

This show was amateurishly written, badly performed, and had a blatantly obnoxious laugh track to cover over the apparent lack of laughter from the actual studio audience.

I was terribly disappointed by the show, even though I thought the idea had much potential, what I saw failed to amuse me whatsoever.
