The 1/2 Hour News Hour

Let’s cut to the chase: Fox News’ Half Hour News Hour, the conservative-leaning comedy show created by producer Joel Surnow (24), is hilarious — indeed is flat-out, gut-wrenchingly funny. I recently watched DVDs of the show’s first two episodes — Episode 1 is set to premiere on Fox News this Sunday at 10:00 PM EST, and will be repeated Sunday the 25th. Episode 2 will air March 4th. These first two episodes of the show provide some of the funniest, most outrageous moments I’ve seen on a major TV network. You simply will not believe some of the things this show gets away with saying and showing, how politically incorrect the show genuinely is (as opposed to Bill Maher), how many taboos it breaks …

To read the rest of the story and an early review go to Seraphic Friends, Libertas.

We urge everyone to watch "The 1/2 Hour News Hour."

Karen and I wish all our friends a lovely and meaningful Shabbat.

Seraphic Secret is private property, that's right, it's an extension of our home, and as such, Karen and I have instituted two Seraphic Rules and we ask commentors to act respectfully.

1. No profanity.

2. No Israel bashing. We debate, we discuss, we are respectful. You know what Israel bashing is. The world is full of it. Seraphic Secret is one of the few places in the world that will not tolerate this form of anti-Semitism.

That's it. Break either of these rules and you will be banned.

Taboos? Like what??? The conservatives are best known for protecting taboos. Keeping people from discussing them.

You mean like when Conservatives come to college campuses and are shouted down by the local leftie thugs? Right. Gotcha.

I found the The 1/2 Hour News Hour really pathetic! And offensive! I will now boycott 24 from now on, if that is what the creators of 24 really think I do not want to support anything they create!

Smith:

This is, of course, your right. We found the show quite funny and refreshing.

Very good start for a Pilot. I assume, if the show is going to be picked up, that the material will be fresher, seeing as they will be covering more topical issues rather than the "evergreen" sorta material. The "No Fat Chicks" shirt with Kim Jong Il was classic (LoL), and the Hollywood Helping Humanity Actress was really good, but there certainly was some flat moments in some of the newscast humor--or maybe I just didn't get the joke, I dunno--but then again, the Daily Show and Colbert Report also have moments where I'm just like..."Yeah, that was sorta funny....sorta...maybe if I think about it a little more...no, still not funny...", and still the audience is in a riot over the joke, basically because it's usually about somebody they hate.

But anyways, the "Little Women with Junk in the Trunk" in respect to its content, that was pretty good (LoL) and the "Global Warming Guy" had parts where his comedic timing could've been better, and had parts where I wanted to shoot him, but overall was pretty funny.

I'd give it a 7.5/10, hoping, and on the conditions, that the 2nd Pilot will be even better and the show be given AT LEAST a season to prove itself. For God's sake, it took me three whole seasons until I started liking "South Park" and now that's like my favorite show.

Jack has introduced me to your blog, and I am happy that he did.

He directed me to an article you had on whether Palestians should have statehood, a question I am pondering on my blog today as well.

Be well.

Mike:

As we said, we liked the show. We believe it was produced on a shoe-string budget and it showed. We were not wild about certain segments, whereas others were hilarious. It's a relief to have a show that makes fun of the UCLA and other sacred cows of the left--like global warming. We hope the show is picked up.

Barbara from CA:

Welcome to Seraphic Secret. We welcome dialogue.

Palestinian Statehood. Sigh. There are many who believe in it--most of them are not Palestinians. They have had numerous chances to have a state, and each time rejected it. In fact, their leadership has stated, in Arabic, quite clearly, that they have no interest in a two-state solution, their goal is the destruction of Israel. Just go to any PA school, read the Hamas charter--part of which is based on the Protocols of the Elders of Zion--and you will see quite clearly that the culture of hate, the Jew-hatred, the death cult are so ingrained in the culture, that no accomodation is possible. Israel wants peace. The Palis yearn for genocide. It's that simple.

Besides, there is a Palestinian state--which is to say: a Judenrein territory; it is called Gaza--and it is hell on earth.

People who do deserve their own state? The 15 million Kurds in Northern Iraq, and of course Tibet deserves to be free from the yoke of Chinese cultural and physical genocide. But of course no one cares about them because they do not murder innocent civilians. They are not Jew-hating terrorists.

The Palis are lucky to have the Israelis as their enemy. Any other country (especially Arab) would have wiped them off the face of the earth years ago.

I guess the liberal poster above is referencing how difficult it is to condemn the war in this country.

And how no one can state that there is such a thing as global warming. And how the government keeps the media from reporting on Abu Ghraib, Echelon, CIA operations, telephone surveillance, giving constitutional rights to terrorists and Gitmo.

Or how on college campuses the conservatives keep any discussion of affirmative action from happening, and how they stop liberals from rallying for Hillary Clinton.

Yeah, now that the liberal mentions it- we DO live in a conservative police state!

(sarcasm off)

If it wasn't for the (poor quality) laugh track I'm not sure I would have known when to laugh.

Of course the quasi-racist bent on Barak from his BO to his middle name to comparing him to the crack whore Marion Barry, just because he's black, that was a real...well....yeah...those dirty, smelly, stoned blacks. How refreshing that we get that out there for everyone.

And really, the running human waste gag on Ed Begley, Jr.? Since when is potty humor entertaining to any one over the age of 6? And was it really funny to imply he got arrested for dumpster diving for food? The global warming thing is a wealth of comic material and the best they could come up with is this and making fun of technological advancements in alternative fuel cars. How sad.

And of course we have to slash and burn at Hollywood. Of all the stupid things they do there to make fun of FOX chooses to attack their penchant for giving their money away to charity. SHAME on them! (the celebrities of course.)

And of course we can't forget Hillary and her entourage of lesbians. What is it about these people that they find lesbians so terrifying anyway? Can we put this tired old gag back into the closet for another day? Hardly the material of a fresh new show.

And was Kucinich even funny on the best day of his Presidential campaign? Making fun of him now is like the liberals who still make fun of Bob Dole for falling down the stairs while he was campaigning for president. Kind of pitiful and you wonder if you should feel sorry for those people who think they still see humour in that.

Oh and I'll take personal offense for my "Pali" friends who do not have a single bone in their collective bodies that yearn for any such thing as genocide. Generating ignorance like this will ensure ongoing hate from both sides. Good job.

To be honest, reading over your blog here, I would think you yourself would be tolerant having seemingly been the target of intolerance for your faith.

This world is a sad, sad place and it won't get better until the only thing we won't tolerate is the intolerance of others...

against anyone.

Posted by: KC at February 19, 2007 12:42 PM

KC:

The Hamas covenant expressly calls for the "elimination of the Zionist entity." In English, that means Israel.

Hamas was voted into power by an overwhelming majority of the Palis after Israel withdrew completely from Gaza, making it Judenrein, as is every Arab state except Morocco, who "tolerate" several thousand Jewish citizens.

Pali schools and mosques daily call for the elimination of the Zionist entity, as does the "moderate" Abu Mazzan of Fatah--he just does it in Arabic, so the west can continue the fiction that he is less genocidal than Hamas.

BTW, Abu Mazzan's Ph.D thesis is a "scholarly" dissertation on how the Holocaust was "greatly exaggerated."

I am intolerant of genocidal cultures--correct.

Sorry Robert. I was hoping to laugh hard. But I found the online clips to be...not very funny. They are nowhere close to as funny as the Daily Show and Colbert Report, both of which I find hilarious despite the fact that I am at total odds with their politics.

Posted by: yehupitz at February 19, 2007 05:38 PM

Yehupitz:

Pilots are very hard. I know. I've written and produced several. Most shows don't find their legs until a few weeks into the season. Comedy is murder. As I said, I thought it was a good start, and I hope it gets picked up for it fills a real need.
