Best of the Jewish Blogosphere #114
It's Sunday. You'e eating your bagel, sipping your morning coffee, and saying to yourself: Whatever am I going to do with myself today?
Anxiety.
Have no fear, Haval Haveilim #114 is here.
Thta's right, another excuse to plop yourself down at the computer and zone out for who knows how many hours. The lawn needs watering and mowing; fuggedabout it. The kids need to go to a soccer game? Give 'em the keys the mini-van; time for them to grow up already; so what if they're just four feet tall.
We'd like to thank Soccer Dad for including Seraphic Secret's Feeding the Beast, our thoughts on the mortal and national dangers of prisoner exchange.

Seraphic Secret is private property, that's right, it's an extension of our home, and as such, Karen and I have instituted two Seraphic Rules and we ask commentors to act respectfully.
1. No profanity.2. No Israel bashing. We debate, we discuss, we are respectful. You know what Israel bashing is. The world is full of it. Seraphic Secret is one of the few places in the world that will not tolerate this form of anti-Semitism. That's it. Break either of these rules and you will be banned.
I believe it was a Gemora in Kesuvos that you were illustrating.

Among the husband's obligations to his wife is to ransom her if she's kidnapped. So the Gemora discusses the ins and outs of ransoming captives. One of the outs of course is that if Jews pay the non-Jews to free captives it will only encourage more kidnapping.

Soccer Dad:
Yes, and I should have made that citation. And of course there are cases of prominent kidnap victims who have forbade their Jewish communities from redeeming them for this would only encourage further kidnappings.
