The Jewish people have been waiting 5,000 years for this transcendental experience.

I'm not kidding, this video will bring a smile to your face and a tear to your eye. If not, check chest for presence of heartbeat—or wallet for Hamas membership card.

Hat Tip: Seraphic Brother-in-Law, Rabbi David Singer

Seraphic Secret is private property, that's right, it's an extension of our home, and as such, Karen and I have instituted two Seraphic Rules and we ask commentors to act respectfully.

1. No profanity.

2. No Israel bashing. We debate, we discuss, we are respectful. You know what Israel bashing is. The world is full of it. Seraphic Secret is one of the few places in the world that will not tolerate this form of anti-Semitism.

That's it. Break either of these rules and you will be banned.

For some Jews this is the greatest cause for rejoicing since the destruction of the third and the fourth temples.

Jeremiah:

And don't forget the Third Temple: when the Brooklyn Dodgers left for, um, Los Angeles.

My father has never forgiven the Brooklyn Dodgers. Hence, I cannot root for the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Overheard at the Israeli Pro Baseball League Tryouts
by Jake Novak (originally published in The Jewish Week 3/9/07)

10) "If I don't make the team, my mom will make me go back to violin lessons."

9) "I don't have much playing experience, but I can prescribe the best steroids."

8) "Our best pitcher is a little old, but he reminds me Sandy Koufax... oh wait a minute, that IS Sandy Koufax."

7) "This game is just like soccer... only you fall asleep faster."

6) "Hey ump! Even the Conservative movement makes better calls than you!"

5) "I didn't steal second because I was afraid the U.N. would call it an 'illegal occupation."

4) "When is this game going to be over? I want to get back to arguing about politics."

3) (Singing): "Buy me some pistachios and hummus... I don't care if I never see Nablus."

2) "We only have 7 players, but we're already better than the Kansas City Royals."

1) "Who's on first? I don't know, but he'd make a nice husband for my Shayndeleh!"

David:

There is no country in the world other than America that plays real American football. I think the Moshiach will appear before football does in Israel.

How do you say "seventh inning stretch" in Hebrew? And is Cracker Jack kosher? :-D

Rabbi David:

Your wish is my command. How about a college football all-star game/exhibition in Israel? I can't give you UCLA-USC, but I may be able to deliver Harvard-Yale, Columbia etc. Now don't laugh, every Ivy team currently has at least one player on an NFL roster.

Jake, you hit one out of the park.

As an interesting aside, when I told my husband about the baseball league, he pointed to this site: http://www.peppergame.com/

He said his dad used to tell him how good this team was.

Dr. Carol:

Whoa, talk about take me out to the ball game. This is just great—in a totally weird kind of way. Thanks so much.

By the way, trying to find out how to say 7th inning stretch in Hebrew. It's a bit modern for me. My Hebrew is classical, almost Biblical. When I'm in Israel, people sort of giggle when i speak. I sound a bit like a Shakesperian actor in Brooklyn.

It's really embarrassing for my girlses.

Cracker Jack . Hmmm, Karen does not think they are kosher. But you know, we are a resourceful people, we'll find a substitute.

Tonight, I dream of Hank Greenberg, Sandy Koufax, Gong Li...

Whoops.

Don't forget the Baseball league was born out of the 10 year old softball league.
We have a flag football league as well.
Who knows maybe a european football team will play here too.

BTW I went to a game the other day and had a blast.
