Massive Moore Meltdown

This is just priceless.

Sicko continues to flat-line at the box office.

When the box-office gets this low, it's all but over. You might as well put Sicko on a double-bill with A Mighty Heart, sit back and watch the audiences flee.

Um, anyone remember the one film that was at its core Conservative and made oodles and oodles of money?

That's right, kids: 300.

Anywhoo!

CNN brings forth Dr. Sanjay Gupta to critique Sicko. Gupta, a respected neuroseurgeon and journalist, who performed surgery on American soldiers in Iraq, cooly chops Moore's piece of celluloid propaganda to shreds, quite politely.

What's a demagogue to do?

Well, first of all, Moore mispronounces Dr. Gupta's name.

Classy move.

Next, Moore avoids talking about his wretched film, any of the facts in said film, and concentrates instead on, ta-da, the War in Iraq and, Bush-hatred.

Always works for the left.

Except even the left isn't buying this bit of deranged celluloid fantasy.

Our friends at Libertas weigh in on this Moorish meltdown.

If you watch the clip, you’ll see that Moore doesn’t address even a single fact brought up in Dr. Sanjay Gupta’s report about how Americans are more satisfied with their healthcare than any other country, etc… Like most leftists Moore uses emotion (in this case indignation over another subject altogether) to ward off the kryptonite of facts. Moore does try to counter CNN here, but he’s forced to either agree with CNN and then asterisk them to death, or come off as shrilly defensive.

Seraphic Secret is private property, that's right, it's an extension of our home, and as such, Karen and I have instituted two Seraphic Rules and we ask commentors to act respectfully.

1. No profanity.

2. No Israel bashing. We debate, we discuss, we are respectful. You know what Israel bashing is. The world is full of it. Seraphic Secret is one of the few places in the world that will not tolerate this form of anti-Semitism.

That's it. Break either of these rules and you will be banned.

How was 300 conservative? I don't get it.

Mr. Penguin:

Here's my post, and read all the comments. Thanks so much.

The Spartans who fought at Thermopylae were no doubt very brave, but it is difficult to imagine a more tyrannical or unpleasant (or more homosexual) polity than hyper-militarist ancient Sparta, whose population was about 90% slave (helot). I would have preferred life under the Achaemenids to that kind of freedom. The Jews were doing pretty well under the Achaemenid empire, better than they would subsequently fare under the Hellenistic kingdoms that succeeded it.

Were the Spartans the conservatives versus the liberal Persians? I think not. I don't know how present such ideologies are in the movie, but probably no more so than in other action movies.

The Greek force at Thermopylae was mostly not Spartan, but I guess the movie makes it appear that way.

Mr. Penguin:

I have no quarrel with your facts. I'm discussing the movie.

This movie presents warriors as noble men and women who are fighting for freedom against tyranny. In today's Hollywood, believe it or not, this is a profoundly Conservative message.

Thanks so much for your valuable insights.

I watched Moore alienate CNN earlier on Tuesday, when he absolutely bitched to Wolf Blitzer that CNN hadn't acknowledged that everything in Moore's previous movie was "the truth". The attack was personal, directed at the correspondent, and everybody knew Moore had stepped over a line - the anchor talked afterwards about how upset they were that a reporter was Moore's target.

That's probably one of the reasons why they trotted out Gupta, who I don't think had ever interviewed Moore (why would a surgeon be tasked with a movie review?) later for the chop-job.

This was the rare situation where CNN had to counter-attack the lefties because the alternative would be that CNN loses credibility in the eyes of its viewers, which would have been unacceptable.

Solomon:

Moore has led a charmed life so far, forgetting the number #1 rule in Hollywood. Sooner or later, you will fail. Instead of being a man and moving on, he cries and moans and plays the blame game like Mussolini before his execution.

Ok, I finally watched it. He lost it over and over again. It is almost comical to watch the mighty fall.

Jack:

Moore, who should be savvy about film as propaganda, is utterly clueless.

It is too bad that he is not running for office. That tape would be great fodder for whomever ran against him.

I think that you're letting your general dislike for Moore get in the way of the fact that his current film serves a much-needed purpose. I doubt, if you yourself were suffering from poverty and had no medical or dental care, that you would be so quick to tout the glory of 300 over Sicko.

You seem to be far too nice a guy to be as selfish as you sound in this post. The matter of healthcare is one of life and death and calling it into petty fights with some personality seems tasteless to say the least.
