Jihad in Brooklyn

The first New York Charter School for Arab girls is selling T-shirts emblazoned with the words "Intifada - New York."
The principle of the school, Dhabah Almontaser, said "I think it's pretty much an opportunity for girls to express that they are part of New York City society ... and shaking off oppression."
A chance for girls to shake off oppression that comes from being part of New York City society? How about the oppression of women that is rife in the Arab world? Women are more "liberated" in New York City than they are in Riyadh:
I do not think the proponents of charter schools had this sort of activism and education in mind. These are not the type of school uniforms contemplated by some advocates of charter schools-particularly when the principal is implicitly putting pressure on children to buy these shirts-which financially benefit an activist organization with which she shares office space.
The New York Jewish community is not amused:
Sale of the T-shirts, which prompted a critical news story in the New York Post on Monday, was condemned by New York state assemblyman Dov Hikind, an Orthodox Jew from Brooklyn.
In a letter to the New York schools chancellor, Joel Klein, Hikind said it is "outrageous" that Almontaser would "support and hail" the T-shirts.
"It is grossly insensitive," Hikind said. "I have had personal friends killed in the recent intifada. What is Ms. Almontaser thinking? If this is her mindset, a radicalized vision of Islam, she poses a danger to New York City students and she should be removed immediately. She has disqualified herself from being a principal in any New York City school."
What's next? T-Shirts with Arafat's picture on them?

A few observations:

1. Soon, Muslims will declare parts of Brooklyn to be under Sharia. Further, they will insist that Jews have no right to settle in Muslim land.

2. Liberals will want to negotiate with these Muslims and consider these demands to be quite reasonable. After all, this is their religion, their culture. Thus, sections of Brooklyn will become Judenrein, under threat of horrific violence.

3. As more and more Muslim charter schools sprout in the New York area, an aggressive movement will swell to strike the teaching of the Holocaust from all public schools.

4. Liberals will also consider this to be a reasonable demand and they will suggest that so-called "Palestinian oppression" be taught to balance out the Shoah.

5. Muslim prayer footbaths will soon be introduced into NY public schools. This will be agitated for by the ACLU. Their argument will be, no doubt, the footbaths are not religious, but for everyone in order to avoid athlete's foot.

6. Liberals will go along with this because it's a reasonable request, and because liberals are appeasers/cowards and terrified of actually confronting a bunch of Muslim fanatics.

7. The sight of burning synagogues in Brooklyn will become, yawn, an everyday sight. Nothing to get excited about. Just another day in the Muslim calendar.

Seraphic Secret is private property, that's right, it's an extension of our home, and as such, Karen and I have instituted two Seraphic Rules and we ask commentors to act respectfully.

1. No profanity.

2. No Israel bashing. We debate, we discuss, we are respectful. You know what Israel bashing is. The world is full of it. Seraphic Secret is one of the few places in the world that will not tolerate this form of anti-Semitism.

That's it. Break either of these rules and you will be banned.

this is one of the reasons i think jews who agitate for tuition tax credits, religious charter schools, etc. are myopic.

runaway tuition is a problem, but this is not the best way to handle it.

Ari:

Muslim footbaths were just installed in a State University in Detroit. Tax payer money is paying for this religious accommodation. The ACLU went to bat for the Muslim student union. That's right, they could care less about church and state.

It matters little if the schools are charter, private, or public. Islam is an imperial religion and aggressively agitates for what it wants. Liberals, who run the public education systems in most American cities, are terrified and will appease the Muslim bullies.

In five to ten years, I guarantee, the Holocaust will no longer be taught in public schools, there will be Halal food in most cafeterias, there will be foot baths, and head scarves will be mandatory for female teachers so as not to insult the sensibilities of pious Muslim students.

Welcome to Jihad Junior High.

Robert,
When I used to live in Stamford, Connecticut I used to visit Manhattan all the time. Never got to Brooklyn, though -- despite its rich heritage. I'm thinking I should have done that, now that it seems to be turning a corner. I've had the same thoughts about some parts of The Netherlands. Well, so much for diversity.

Robert:

Thanks for this disturbing story. I think that this is another cut in the death of the West by one thousand cuts.

By the way, in little old Halifax, Nova Scotia, the Muslim population has grown to about 15-20,000, while the Jewish population (never large to start with) has shrunk to about 1,500.As a result, in the main children/maternity hospital, they now post certain signs in Arabic.

Be well.

England is at the point of not teaching about the Shoah. Synagogues and other Jewish institutions in some parts of England have had to install bomb proof glass and have 24 hour security.

It is frightening to think it could soon happen here in the US.

'It is frightening to think it could soon happen here in the US.'

Seawitch i'm surprised that it hasn't happened sooner.
Did you honestly believe that Jewish Americanization would protect our people from antisemitism?
Or did you naively believe that our intellectual gentile brethren would never allow such antisemetic atrocities to occur?

We have a long long history of trying to fit in to the culture and society in which we dwell.

We try and try but in the end we're still Jews living among the Goyim.

Don't be so surprised seawitch it's just history repeating intself all over again

It's funny that you happen to be a screenwriter, as I happened upon your site as part of research for a screenplay that I myself am writing. As a New Yorker (from Gowanus, Brooklyn) and a proud Jew, I not only find it offensive that you would say things like " Soon, Muslims will declare parts of Brooklyn to be under Sharia. Further, they will insist that Jews have no right to settle in Muslim land." but I mostly find it sad. Ignorance and fear mongering such as this is what perpetuates hatred between people. I can not claim to have answers and I understand the complexity of the issues at hand, but I know one thing, that living my life to stop others from living theirs is no way to live at all. I just hope you can direct your energy into living a full life that please you. If that means living every single day to work for the destruction of Palestine and the preservation of Israel, then great. I respect that. I'm for Israel too! But I'm an American. And as you so pejoratively frame Liberals, I would like to remind you that although the "conservatives" have usurped the concepts of patriotism and "liberty" I for one plan on focusing on the rebuilding of America before I wage, be it even intellectual, war on other parts of the world. I'm a Jew, yes. I'm an American, yes. Do I care about Israel. Greatly! But as David from Tel Aviv so myopically put it, "we have a long history of 'trying to fit in to the society and culture in which we dwell.' And in the next sentence says "we're still Jews living among the Goyim." I think the most orthodox among us are to blame for this failure. Nobody is trying to take away our religion in the US (anymore!). We ghettoize ourselves and then get angry when other cultures do (especially our conservative counterparts). I'm just tired of it. I love my people. And I love other people too. and there's nothing more truly Jewish than that....
