Seraphic Secret is private property, that's right, it's an extension of our home, and as such, Karen and I have instituted two Seraphic Rules and we ask commentors to act respectfully.
1. No profanity.2. No Israel bashing. We debate, we discuss, we are respectful. You know what Israel bashing is. The world is full of it. Seraphic Secret is one of the few places in the world that will not tolerate this form of anti-Semitism. That's it. Break either of these rules and you will be banned.
Where is so easy. This is hominid line in the majority...98% Humans are at 2%. What do I think is going to happen? I am afraid for my country for the very first time in my life.

"Were..." My bad, sorry.

Frankly, I'm surprised. At times, this strip has shown astonishing bigotry, so that I long ago stopped reading it. This time was clearly an exception.

i saw this a few months ago and initially was impressed. but on second thought, i wasn't so sure if it is pro-israel or if it is sitting the fence the way the white house has done "on occasion" and saying that neither side of the middle east conflict is in the right, rather, that everyone should just calm down and sing kumbaya.
i dony know the position of the artist, but we have seen severe cases of anti-semites comparing the israelis of today to the nazis. i certainly hope that your understanding is the artists intent, but as kent mentioned, there's reason to doubt.

Everyone:
I am not familiar with this artist's work. I saw this strip, felt it was powerful, took it at face value and republished it. Others might read some grim subtext, which frankly I fail to see. But I might be wrong. I hope not.

It's wishy-washy, talking about "political extremism," as though that was the issue, and about people just "perishing" (all by themselves!) rather than being killed. It's like when the media refer to 9-11 as a tragedy when it was actually an atrocity.

we must be careful to not become desensitized to the holocaust, or any other atrocity. unlike the writer of these lyrics.
"And the angel of the lord came unto me, snatching me up from my place of slumber. And took me on high, and higher still until we moved to the spaces betwixt the air itself. And he brought me into a vast farmlands of our own midwest. And as we descended, cries of impending doom rose from the soil. One thousand, nay a million voices full of fear. And terror possesed me then.
And I begged, "Angel of the Lord, what are these tortured screams?" And the angel said unto me, "These are the cries of the carrots, the cries of the carrots! You see, Reverend Maynard, tomorrow is harvest day and to them it is the holocaust." And I sprang from my slumber drenched in sweat like the tears of one million terrified brothers and roared, "Hear me now, I have seen the light! They have a consciousness, they have a life, they have a soul! Damn you! Let the rabbits wear glasses! Save our brothers!" Can I get an amen? Can I get a hallelujah?"
i still love the band though.

Robert,
If you were unfamiliar with the strip, I can certainly see why you would take this one at face value, and post it here with your endorsement.
It's certainly one of his better strips. It's just that that isn't a very high bar.
The Holocaust wasn't about faith, since Jews who converted to Christianity were not spared. (Indeed, the more extreme Nazis* distrusted Christianity as a "Jewish religion," and they intended to eradicate it, once the Jews were dealt with. It would be replaced by a German National Church.) The Holocaust was about race.
The conclusion, that political extremism is terribly dangerous, is true enough. However, in the context of this cartoonist's body of work, it seems clear that the "political extremists" he is concerned with are not the Taliban, but George Bush and his supporters.
I realize that isn't at all obvious when this strip is seen in isolation.
--------------------
*I realise that "more extreme Nazis" sounds like an oxymoron. But there's really whacked out, and then there's really, really whacked out.

I appreciate all the comments on this strip and the author's history. As I said, I was not aware. I'll try and be more careful in the future. The blogosphere is a wonderful arena for immediate feedback, corrections and contrition.
