Inside Columbia University: The Saudi Lobby

We received the letter below from a Senior Professor at Columbia University who wishes to remain anonymous. Free speech at Columbia University does not extend to Republican Professors who support Israel. Such orphans must remain in the closet, or hazard coming out to social ostracism and losing their faculty appointments.

Thus, progressive Democrats in action.

As Seraphic Secret has pointed out time and again, the threat of tyranny comes almost exclusively from the left in America. Those who most vigorously call for freedom of speech are, in fact, quickest to strangle those individuals who disagree with their radical opinions.

Make no mistake about it: the least free places in America are our elite universities, and as more and more petro-dollars flow into university bank accounts, the so-called Middle Eastern Studies Departments become official Jew-hating groves of academia, and before we know it, some universities will be so corrupted by Islamic money that Jew/Israeli and America hatred will become the norm.

And then jihad will be required courses for students on our universities.

At some point we will have to declare these institutions, their faculties and students: enemies of the state.

I am not being a fantasist, not after what I saw and heard at Columbia yesterday. I am, sadly, being realistic.

Here is the letter from our Columbia Professor. It is most illuminating.

1) The faculty at the School of International and Public Affairs made the invite, (also last year). They are the most radical of all the faculties at Columbia with some of the most odious hate America types imaginable. They hate Bollinger and any aspect of the university that deals with money, especially the fund raisers.
2) You were right on target alluding to the Summers' incident when discussing Bollinger's craven decision not to overrule his own faculty. He's afraid of being voted out like Summers and that makes him worthless. His opening questions were his way of lashing out at the SIPA faculty, but we both know how much that is worth. He has not only enabled Iran, but also the SIPA faculty who will now endeavor to outdo themselves with another invite of this kind next year. They'll probably go for Chavez or Robert Mugabe.
3) For all the talk about the Jewish money Bollinger will lose from alumni, the real problem for him is the Saudi money. As you know the Saudis HATE Iran and they're not happy about this appearance. It serves Columbia right: do you know that Columbia began removing its King's Crown logo from many of its mailings so as not to offend the Saudis? You see, the King's crown has crosses on it. They replaced it with the Queen's crown, (which has spades), until some richer American alums cried foul. Now they just avoid the crown altogether. We were all stupid enough to think it was about offending secularists, but of course it was the Muslims.
4) Bollinger probably won't survive this unless John Kluge rides to his public rescue... and that may not happen. Kluge probably wants to stay silent about this and he's not married to Bollinger anyway.
5) There is strong talk that Bloomberg may be the next president of Columbia. I'm not sure he would do better, but he would probably have more guts.

Yesterday when I heard the wretched Columbia students cheering Mahmoud every time he mentioned the Palestinians, it occurred to me that a terrorist has just been arrested in Israel. He had just taken part in shooting and bomb attacks near Shechem.

This terrorist was just released from an Israeli prison as a gesture of good will to Fatah. He took a solemn vow that he would not take up arms against Israel.

So much for Arab honor.

These are the people the Columbia students were cheering.

Here is my final word on this vile affair: For the most part, liberal arts education at our Universities involve teaching American students that the traditions they come from are worthless, things to be discarded and spit upon. Mahmoud comes from a culture where children are taught to die for their traditions and culture.

Who wins in such a battle?

Seraphic Secret is private property, that's right, it's an extension of our home, and as such, Karen and I have instituted two Seraphic Rules and we ask commentors to act respectfully.

1. No profanity.

2. No Israel bashing. We debate, we discuss, we are respectful. You know what Israel bashing is. The world is full of it. Seraphic Secret is one of the few places in the world that will not tolerate this form of anti-Semitism.

That's it. Break either of these rules and you will be banned.

"...Free speech at Columbia University does not extend to Republican Professors who support Israel. ... "

but it *does* extend to those who support womens' rights, abortion, and gay rights,

so,

can anyone be prevailed upon to ask of of any Muslim spokesperson, in a public forum, what the position of Islam/Sharia/Muslim-cleric-du-jour is on partial birth abortions, ordinary abortions, and gay marriage ?

if this could be done publicly,
it may cause the 'left' (or at least the 'sane' liberal minority) to _wake UP_ to what the Muslim vision world order would mean to 'them'

Sadly, I'm not surprised to hear what the esteemed professor has to say. Sadly too, this situation is typical not only of the elite universities. My fellow academics were mostly talking about how "entertaining" the "neocon" reaction was.

Yeah, the audience laughed sarcastically at his remark about gays, but the laugh was really on them.

Thanks so much for your comment, unfortunately so-called feminists have aligned themselves with Islamist tyrants and Jew-haters over oppressed women.

It's not even close.

See Phyllis Chesler who has done ground-breaking, and heartbreaking work in this area:

I am encountering this with greater frequency. As soon as I mention anything that resembles conservative thought they construct a garlic necklace and cross their fingers as if I am sort of monster.

As I have said far too many times, the blogosphere's most important service will be to illuminate and educate.

WWII was largely a war of industrial production. What would have happened if the people involved in this production--from the worker on the line to the skilled toolmaker to the senior executives--had refused to provide their abilities to the war effort? What if Rosie had refused to rivet?

The present conflict is largely a battle of ideas. This is not to say that technology and industry are unimportant, but they are not the primary factor. Writing and images are important now in the way B-17s were important in 1943. And a very signficant proportion of our word people and our image people are either refusing to support the effort, or are actively in collusion with the enemy.

Dr. Carol:

Yes, we Neo-cons, AKA Jews, are highly amusing.

You should remind your liberal friends that Daniel Pearl z'l, was a liberal too, looking to write the jihadists side of the story. And right before the Islamists beheaded him they made him "confess" that he was a Jew, and that his farther and mother are Jews.

Yup, our reactions are are soooo amusing.

Yes, Liberals are, for the most part, a profoundly mature citizenry.

David:

Thanks so much for jumping in.

During World war II Hollywood contributed to the American propaganda effort in a great patriotic outpouring. Studio chiefs Jack Warner and LB Mayer were made Officers in the US Army. They wore uniforms to their studio. Stars raised millions in war bonds. Films were churned out that supported the war effort.

Now, Hollywood makes films that are anti-military, anti-American and completely seditious.

And, oh by the way, complete box office failures.

Nevertheless, i believe that America will have a hard time winning the war against radical Islam without Hollywood's support.

An excellent article. The letter from the professor was very telling, but not at all a surprise. I wondered if Bollinger would survive this. Time will tell.

The information on the Saudis is very interesting.

I had not heard about the King's Crown logo. I simply do not understand what is happening here in the U.S. We give in to Islam's demands, while anything goes when it comes to Christianity, Jews and almost any other religion/group.

Today "Homosexuals Mock ‘Last Supper’ With Sex-Toys", and where's the outrage? We draw a cartoon of Mohammed and the Islamic world riots. Papers refuse to print them, even stores in the U.S. refuse to carry magazines that include them.

We will pay for this one day, sooner than any of us can predict.

I have Fern Sidman's latest, which she emailed me yesterday:

I have Phyllis Chesler's most recent article at Right Truth, which she emailed to me today for posting.

Both excellent takes on Columbia.

Your final word is excellent. The answer to your question, "Who wins?" They do.

"There is strong talk that Bloomberg may be the next president of Columbia. I'm not sure he would do better, but he would probably have more guts."

this time around he refused to comment, claiming that it was an internal columbia matter. no guts now, so why assume more guts later?

now guiliani on the other hand . . . he has a special place in my heart for ejecting arafat from lincoln center. that's guts!

i never correct grammar mistakes and typos by a blogger, but i can't keep quiet this time. you missed capitalizing an "I" at 7:03. i hope my bad habits are not becoming contagious. :)

"As Seraphic Secret has pointed out time and again, the threat of tyranny comes almost exclusively from the left in America. Those who most vigorously call for freedom of speech are, in fact, quickest to strangle those individuals who disagree with their radical opinions."

It has ever been thus. The left, starting with Marx, has always put The State at the pinnacle of power with the individual at the bottom. Anything that threatens the power of The State is suppressed.

Fascists and Nazis (Nazi is short for Nationalist Socialist) have their roots on the left. Like Communism and Socialism, both place ultimate power in The State. The difference is that Communism is an international ideology, while Nazism is a nationalist ideology. Otherwise they are quite similar. Hitler even stated that he would sooner take a former communist into the party than a bourgeois.

I'm not a huge fan of mayor Bloomberg so...

But Rudi, well, he's quite good when it comes to Islamic radicals and street thugs.

And yeah, you caught me, i made a boo-boo. Bad company:)

No argument from us, we're just pointing this out for the benefit of our liberal readers who labor under the delusion that they represent the ideology of freedom.

An unrelated issue (because it is too late to find the relevant post):

Regarding your proposal to cut the power to gaza, see http://www.jpost.com/servlet/Satellite?cid=1189411489987&pagename=JPost%2FJPArticle%2FShowFull

Note:

"Some defense officials said cuts to electricity would not be enough to stop the Kassam attacks. The only real way to pressure Hamas, they said, was to completely cut off supplies to Gaza and allow a humanitarian crisis to develop. 'This is not something that we are going to do,' one official said. 'But it is really the only way.'

So it seems Israel has thrown in the towel. even if this is the decision the military/govt. has come to, why announce publicly that you will not take the steps you know are needed? Now the terrorists really know they have a free hand.

Debbie:

Thanks so much for your comments and the fine links.

When my grandparents came to the shores of this country they, though devout Jews, were anxious to become Americans. They did everything in their power to adjust to this culture without surrendering their Judaism. The same applies to Italian immigrants, Irish immigrants, etc.

Muslim immigrants are different.

They demand that the host culture adjust to Islamic law, sharia.

This fanatic devotion, when it meets the squishy multi-culturalism rampant in the west, well, there is no contest.

The Islamists win.

To defeat these fanatics they can only be defeated by another form of fanatacism.

America summoned this will in her war against Nazi Germany when we terror bombed civilain populations in Germany; when we dropped two A bombs on Japan. We demanded, quite rightly, unconditional surrender, we did not ask for a cease fire.

We will once again have to summon this fortitude against these jihadist barbarians, or we will perish.

Posted by: Robert J. Avrech [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 25, 2007 11:51 PM

Mo'ah:

My position is very simple: the people of Gaza overwhelmingly voted Hamas into office knowing full well that Hamas rejects Israel's right to exist, and calls for the annihilation of the state of Israel.

Thus, the people of Gaza are directly responsible for the rein of Hamas and the rain of terror missiles in Northern Israel.

Hence it is not only morally justifiable, but a moral imperative for Israel to take action to protect her innocent citizens against the terrorists of Gaza, and one of the best tactics is by cutting off all electricity and supplies of fuel. This eliminates sending in ground troops to be cut down in urban combat.

Not taking action against Gaza on the basis of humanitarian concerns means that the current Israeli government values the lives of a terrorist state above that of her own citizens.

This is morally reprehensible, not to mention halachically unacceptable.

Chag Sameach:)

Posted by: Robert J. Avrech [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 26, 2007 12:01 AM

I agree. We must summon the same fortitude as in the past to decisively WIN this war. A cease fire only gives the enemy time to re-arm.

Have a wonderful day.

Robert - You're doing a great public service putting this stuff out.

Not to preach to the (Tabernacle) choir, but does not Bush's UN Speech further dissonate the Jewish Liberal world-view of Bush-the-fanatic, anti-semite?

Good yom tov

Posted by: Real Name at September 26, 2007 01:34 PM

Robert.."During World war II Hollywood contributed to the American propaganda effort in a great patriotic outpouring"...yes. I wonder if you have any hypotheses as to what accounts for the change. I have two ideas:

1)Lots of Hollywood players in the 1940s were, I believe, immigrants, and American was still something special to them.

2)The influence of higher education. I know this is a factor in the increasing anti-Americanism in journalism--in the olden days, there were many journalists who had only high school educations--but don't know if it's a factor in Hollywood. Certainly there don't seem to be many actors with advanced degrees; are they common among directors, screenwriters, and producers?

Posted by: david foster at September 26, 2007 01:50 PM

Real Name:

Jewish liberals who believe that President Bush is an anti-Semite are so removed from reality that nothing, and I mean nothing that has any relation to common sense or sanity penetrates.

Certain people are born to be ignored.

Posted by: Robert J. Avrech [TypeKey Profile Page] at September 26, 2007 02:24 PM

David:

Hollywood moguls were immigrants and they loved America. Most actors and technicians were American born and yet they too loved America, fiercely.

But your points are correct.

I would add that multi-culturalism is a virus that undermines our culture in the face of Islam, not just radical Islam.

The ghost of Vietnam casts a long shadow over America's chattering classes, not just in academia, but among journalists, and certainly in Hollywood.

Most important, some people just can't face up to evil.

And guess what? Some of them are evil.

I have to admit that I don't spend a great deal of energy thinking about motives and causes. As a wise Israeli commando once said to me: "Some men need killing. I'm not really interested in his childhood. I'm only interested in ending his adulthood."
