Gaza Blackout at Long Last
Israel is about to cut some electricity and fuel deliveries to Gaza. It's about time. Seraphic Secret has been calling for this simple measure—for years.
It is, literally, insane that Israel is providing electricity and fuel to an entity that is sworn to her destruction.
To those who accuse Israel of imposing collective punishment on Gaza.
No kidding.
That's war.
That's the price Gazans pay for electing the genocidal Hamas terrorists into positions of leadership. That's the price Gazans pay for allowing, encouraging and celebrating homicide bombers and the launching of daily missiles into Israel.
In fact, Gaza is lucky that her enemy is Israel. Any other country faced with such unrelenting violence and hateful propaganda would have, long ago, reduced to Gaza to ashes and rubble.
Defense Minister Ehud Barak's approval earlier Thursday of an IDF plan to impose sanctions on the Gaza Strip in wake of the escalation in Kassam rocket attacks was the first step, defense officials told The Jerusalem Post, towards a "complete disengagement" including the gradual reduction in Palestinian dependency on Israel for gas and electricity.
During his weekly security meeting on Thursday Barak approved the plan that had been formulated by Deputy Defense Minister Matan Vilna'i and Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories Maj.-Gen. Yosef Mishlav in line with the recent cabinet decision that defined Gaza as a "hostile entity."
According to the plan, one of the power lines connecting Israel and Gaza will be shut down at first for 15 minutes after a rocket attack, gradually increasing the cutoff length if the barrages continue, up to a two-hour limit. In addition, Israel will begin reducing the amount of gasoline it allows into the Gaza Strip.

Hat Tip: Seraphic Chaver, Kishke.
And just to give you an idea of the charming people Israel is dealing with in Gaza:
A senior leader of the Popular Resistance Committee in Gaza encouraged terrorists at a press conference Wednesday, "Kill Jews everywhere without waiting for permission." Terrorist leader Abu Al-Sa'id also called for the disbanding of the Palestinian Authority (PA) government, which he said should be replaced by a "Resistance Authority."
He called for the murder of Jews as retaliation for the death of an Islamic Jihad terrorist who was killed in a massive riot at the Ketziot prison in the Negev earlier this week.

Seraphic Secret is private property, that's right, it's an extension of our home, and as such, Karen and I have instituted two Seraphic Rules and we ask commentors to act respectfully.
1. No profanity.2. No Israel bashing. We debate, we discuss, we are respectful. You know what Israel bashing is. The world is full of it. Seraphic Secret is one of the few places in the world that will not tolerate this form of anti-Semitism. That's it. Break either of these rules and you will be banned.
May God have mercy on you.

Right, Miguel. Because people like you certainly won't.
Posted by: kishke at October 25, 2007 06:03 PM
People like me, meaning what? I must know a lot about me, now don't you?...
We didn't even started a discussion, and you're already shouting "anti-Semite!". Sad.
Posted by: Miguel at October 25, 2007 06:15 PM
People like you who say that Israel is evil for defending itself.
Of course you'll start whining that you never said that. But it's implied in your comment above. Why would we be in need of God's mercy if we've done nothing wrong. It follows that you consider cutting power to Gaza a wrongful act, even though it is taken in self-defense against our sworn enemies.
Posted by: kishke at October 25, 2007 06:32 PM
(insert whine here).
I don't believe Israel is evil, that would mean thousands of people living there would be evil, and a Nation is not a person.
As for "nothing wrong", well, i think you think you know i don't agree with that in full.

Miguel, you started the conversation with your condescending remark.
Israel, being a sovereign nation, imperfect though it may be, has an absolute right to protect its population from terrorists. Actually, in my opinion, recent Israeli governments have failed to protect Israelis adequately in recent years.
You've labeled yourself perfectly. I can smell one at 100 yards.

Don't avoid the issue. You can't have it both ways. If it's okay for Israel to defend itself against the murderers next door, then what's your problem with cutting off the power? And if you think it's not okay for them to defend themselves, well, then that speaks for itself.

The Palestinians have received more foreign aid than any other non-governmental entity on the face of the earth. Billions upon billions of dollars.
Not one penny has gone to build a decent infrastructure.
Not one penny has been spent on a simple electrical grid.
No, the country they vow to destroy—Israel—is expected to supply all their energy demands.
This after Israel forcibly expelled 9,000 Jews from Gaza two years ago effectively making yet another Arab state Judenrein. That makes 23 Arab countries Judenrein. Lovely scorecard for the Muslim/Arab world. And it's all politically correct and even fashionable in the European left.
Ah, but just wait until the Muslims move from the Jews to the liberals in Europe. That will be a chilling and ironic sight. For the Jews are the canary in the coal mine of civilization. The Europeans have conveniently forgotten this bitter lesson of history.
Meanwhile, this power demand on the part of the Arabs in Gaza and their Western/liberal enablers only makes sense if you're an Islamo Nazi, or a multi-cultural liberal.
It should be clear by now to any impartial observer that the Palestinians have no interest in building a state, only in destroying a state.
Hey, I have a common sense solution: Gaza shares a border with Egypt. Let Gaza tie in to Egypt's electrical power grid.
Yeah, the Egyptians are really anxious to help out their Arab brothers.
It's much more convenient to use them as political pawns and blame the evil Jooz for, well, everything.

Sorry for the simplicity, but YOU TOOK THEM OUT OF THEY'RE LANDS! I mean, IT'S THEY'RE LAND!! IT'S THEY'RS!! Of course the israeli government has the right to cut off electricity, it's just another move for them. Not for the millions of course, but who cares really.

Miguel:
You have been sadly misinformed. We did not take them out of their land. That is a massive lie.
Jews have lived in Israel for over 3,000 years.
There has never been a Palestinian state. Ever.
But there have been numerous Jewish states in Israel. Israel is the Jewish homeland. Read your Bible.
That Jews stole Arab land is a lie that is fostered in order to justify the war of terror that has been waged by oil wealthy tyrants and religious fanatics against Jew-haters for generations.
The fact is that in 1948 the UN declared a partition plan for a Jewish and a Palestinian state. The Arabs rejected this peaceful plan, and five Arab Armies declared war on the Jewish state with the aim of "driving the Jews into the sea."
The Arabs lost this war and there were Arab refugees from Israel and Jewish refugees from the Arab world.
The Jewish refugees from the Arab world were absorbed into israel, about 1 million Arab Jews who were expelled from their homes, and they were welcomed with open arms by their Jewish brothers.
About 700,000 Arabs fled from Israel during the war and they were shoved in refugee camps by their Arab brothers in Egypt, Syria, and Lebanon. Only Jordan gave them citizenship.
In fact, 80% of the population of Jordan is Palestinian so Jordan is actually the defacto Palestinian State.

Miguel, why don't you tell us how you really feel about Israel?
Their lands? Whose? Until Israel was re-established, the word "Palestinians" was used to refer to the Jews in the area. After all, the Romans had created the word after conquering Israel, as an insult to the Jewish people.
The people you call Palestinians are Arabs, some of whom later moved to what is now Israel. Yes, some of them fled during Israel's War of Independence in 1948, mostly at the behest of the invading Arab nations, in a hope that the Jews would be wiped out, after which the Arabs would rule the entire land.
Unfortunately for them, they made the wrong choice. It isn't THEIR land. No other nation in the world has been expected to give back land it conquered in a defensive war.
I won't even go into the question of the hundreds of thousands of Jews driven from Arab lands in 1948, except to say that Israel absorbed and resettled them.
Their land? Their land is across the Jordan river, where an Arab state carved out of the British mandate already exists. It's called Jordan, and its population is made up mostly of Arabs who had lived in the area the Romans named Palestine By the way, its land mass constitutes about 75% of the mandated territory. Let them move there.
The Arabs refused to share the remaining 25% of ancient Israel with the Jews in 1948. That's why they invaded the new state of Israel.
They made their bed. Let them sleep in it.

There we go. Miguel's true feelings now emerge. It's THEIR land (not), so we have no right to defend ourselves. It's as I said in the beginning, we need God's mercy, b/c people like you, MIguel, certainly won't spare us any. Why did you take exception to that?

Kishke
I really don't know what your problem is, since you are since the beginning trying to find faults in my speech. The only reason i remain in this blog after the first remark was because i was actively trying to learn something, opening my ears to the "other side". You're just trying to bash me down, a normal behaviour of people who don't really believe what they're saying, but need to believe in something. Well, this is not a soccer game, Israel and Palestine are not clubs. If you need to feel connected to something it's ok for you, but leave me alone, ok?
Best wishes

Miguel,
I'm going to call you out on this one. Your first comment on this post was "May G-d have mercy on you." Period. That's a drive-by comment--you cannot throw something like that out, bare as it is, and then act surprised when people react strongly to the implied message. That's not a comment someone makes who is "opening ears to the other side", that's a comment meant to provoke. 99% of the time that sort of opening remark is not a good way to start a dialogue, if a dialogue is what you truly wanted.
So, right off the bat, you came off as antagonistic and judgmental, and frankly you have not done much to dispel that image. Instead of recognizing and apologizing for your faux pas, you take refuge in silly statements like this last one : "a normal behaviour of people who don't really believe what they're saying, but need to believe in something." You're being sharply rebutted and rebuked, and rightly so.
