Jihad in America

The New York Times is finally paying attention to the violent Muslims who are intent on destroying America, Israel, Western civilization.

When Osama bin Laden issued his videotaped message to the American people last month, a young jihad enthusiast went online to help spread the word.
“America needs to listen to Shaykh Usaamah very carefully and take his message with great seriousness,” he wrote on his blog. “America is known to be a people of arrogance.”
Unlike Mr. bin Laden, the blogger was not operating from a remote location. It turns out he is a 21-year-old American named Samir Khan who produces his blog from his parents’ home in North Carolina, where he serves as a kind of Western relay station for the multimedia productions of violent Islamic groups.

Here's the question: what are limits of free speech in America? This vile kid in North Carolina, IMHO, has no right to disseminate videos which show how to build bombs that are used to kill innocent people all over the world. He has no right to call for the death of Americans. This kid is our enemy and should be arrested and put on trial for sedition.

Seraphic Secret is private property, that's right, it's an extension of our home, and as such, Karen and I have instituted two Seraphic Rules and we ask commentors to act respectfully.

1. No profanity.

2. No Israel bashing. We debate, we discuss, we are respectful. You know what Israel bashing is. The world is full of it. Seraphic Secret is one of the few places in the world that will not tolerate this form of anti-Semitism.

That's it. Break either of these rules and you will be banned.

I wonder if a seditious conspiracy charge could be made to stick.

"...the federal government prosecuted Sheik Omar Abdel Rahman, a blind Egyptian cleric living in New Jersey, and nine codefendants on charges of seditious conspiracy.

...The defendants committed no overt acts of war, but all were found to have taken substantial steps toward carrying out a plot to levy war against the United States. The government did not have sufficient evidence that Rahman participated in the actual plotting against the government or any other activities to prepare for terrorism. He was instead prosecuted for providing religious encouragement to his coconspirators. "

It has been a long time since I took my media law course, but I still remember Gitlow V. New York which basically says that you cannot call for the violent overthrow of the government.

Free speech has its limits.

while i couldn't agree more, am somewhat pessimistic that any legal action will be taken,

what i would hope for, is that the intelligence community considers this a 'credible threat', and uses this opportunity to track all the potential terrorist recruits visiting his website, and takes action against 'them'

on another note,
Robert, you mentioned that weekends are your time to catch up with worthwhile films you want to see again, or may have missed the first time,

i think you 'just might' have missed this one:

the original 6 hour french edition of "Les Miserables" (black and white with english subtitles,
[it's floating around out there somewhere,
but i haven't been able to get my hands on it yet,]

here's what's available now:
http://amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_d/102-6132055-9403326?initialSearch=1&url=search-alias%3Ddvd&field-keywords=%22Les+Miserables%22&Go.x=9&Go.y=11&Go=Go

the restored french edition (NO subtitles), 384 minutes,

second choice would be the Charles Laughton/Frederick March version

(btw, the book is Excellent! and worthwhile,
as it presents a look at genuinely G-D fearing clerics that hasn't been portrayed in any of the remakes,

just skip all the anachronistic political rants that Victor Hugo, as an exile, took the opportunity to put in ;-)) )

maybe for a 3-day weekend ;-)

Jack:

I'm not a lawyer. I just proceed with common sense that informs me that this guy, and those like him, are a threat to the Republic.

We should not be tolerant of people who call for murder and the violent overthrow of our government. In fact we should be intolerant of such views and deal with those who profess them in the harshest manner.

Thanks for the information. I'll keep an eye out for the films.

Robert, unless I'm mistaken, the situation is worse than you described. I'm not certain of the names, but I understand this mamzer was being monitored by an organization which is led by a woman who once worked with Steve Emerson.

I believe she notified two people in the Administration of OBL's tape. This was done in confidence, as she didn't want the junior jihadi to know that he was being watched.

I read somewhere (It may have been Meryl Yourish's blog) that someone in the Administration leaked the story to the NYT. The Times contacted the FBI and asked whether they knew about this guy. Apparently, the FBI would not comment, and the Times printed the story, thus tipping off the JJ that he was being watched.

If what I've said is true, it once again affirms that we're our own worst enemies. It's almost as though the MSM consider this as just a game.

Robert,

You don't have to visit the sun to know that it is hot. This guy needs to be dealt with. He is not someone who is playing games.

Hugh:

Thanks so much for the info and the links. The New York Times can always be counted on not to attribute to a blogger and to undermine our intelligence services.

Jawa Report has done an amazing job. Shame on the NY Times that they did not cite Jawa's groundbreaking work.
