World War IV

Victor Davis Hanson reviews World War IV: The Long Struggle Against Islamofascism by Norman Podhoretz (Doubleday 2007, 240 pp.)

World War IV is an indispensable book for these times. The war in Iraq has occasioned some of the most shameful partisan behavior since Vietnam, as well as generating in the mainstream media a narrative filled with what Podhoretz accurately calls “misconceptions, distortions, and outright falsifications.” To correct this partisan spin, Podhoretz economically and clearly surveys both the facts and the distortions, providing readers with all the ammunition they need to counter the “Bush lied” and “illegal war” master narrative relentlessly peddled by the Democrats and their shills in the media. Even more important, World War IV sets out the case for sticking with the Bush Doctrine, whatever its drawbacks, as the best policy for countering the threat of Islamic jihad. All serious voters this coming year should not pull the lever until they have read this book and understood what is at stake for America’s security in the coming decades.

Seraphic Secret is private property, that's right, it's an extension of our home, and as such, Karen and I have instituted two Seraphic Rules and we ask commentors to act respectfully.

1. No profanity.

2. No Israel bashing. We debate, we discuss, we are respectful. You know what Israel bashing is. The world is full of it. Seraphic Secret is one of the few places in the world that will not tolerate this form of anti-Semitism.

That's it. Break either of these rules and you will be banned.

The best single book placing the forward military strategy of fighting them "over there" in a tradition going back through Reagan and Johnson and Kennedy to Truman and FDR.

A compliment to WWIV would be a work emphasizing the "culture war" aspect of this struggle -- values and demographics -- something like Bat Ye'or or Mark Steyn. Because the military is just one aspect.

All in all a lean summary of what we're doing and why.

Jeremiah:

This book sounds superb. I have it on order. It seems to be, a cogent argument against the Democratic foreign policy platform. So look for this book to be trashed by the usual suspects.

" ...So look for this book to be trashed by the usual suspects ..."

Rav Kahane once said,
that if Shimon Peres ever 'liked' one of his proposals,
he would fast, lock himself in his room, and do Teshuva ...

whenever a book like this comes out, the list of people who rant against it, is one of the most accurate measures of praise for the book

btw,
as evidenced by yesterday's post on the Iranian Jewish issue,
it seems that your blog is drawing attention from the 'usual suspects' too ;-)
