Best of the Jewish Blogosphere # 152
Okay, it's up: Haveil Havalim #152, The Patriots Must Lose Edition.
Jack doesn't like the New England Patriots.
Just a wild guess.
Seraphic Secret is neutral on all things football—except for brain damage.
We are definitely against trauma to the gray matter. Concussions are sad.
We plan on DVR'ng the game, and then watching, yup, the commercials.
We'd like to thank Jack for including Seraphic Secret's The War Over the War, and a moving tribute to our late son, Learning from Ariel.
This just in:
The Hollywood Congress of Republicans Board of Directors unanimously endorse Mitt Romney for President:
The California Congress had previously endorsed another candidate, but that candidate has since dropped out of the race. The HCR Board of Directors have therefore chosen to endorse Mitt Romney in a unanimous vote. We believe that he is the only logical candidate who, contrary to what the polls say, has the best chance of beating the Democrats. Also, his agenda and governing philosophy are more in line with ours and true Republican principles. This election is vitally important so make your voice heard this Tuesday.
The following linked article has some great information and is worth a read. It spells out some of the facts regarding McCain vs. Romney:

Seraphic Secret is private property, that's right, it's an extension of our home, and as such, Karen and I have instituted two Seraphic Rules and we ask commentors to act respectfully.
1. No profanity.2. No Israel bashing. We debate, we discuss, we are respectful. You know what Israel bashing is. The world is full of it. Seraphic Secret is one of the few places in the world that will not tolerate this form of anti-Semitism. That's it. Break either of these rules and you will be banned.
Although a longtime Giant fan, I would not be so disappointed if the Patriots win. Mr. Kraft, the Patriots' owner, is a strong supporter of Israel. He financed the renovations of the stadium in Jerusalem where my son plays flag football - Kraft Stadium. In the past, after winning a Super Bowl, he makes it a point to bring a number of Patriot players to Israel together with the Vince Lombardi Trophy. I guess this year, at least with respect to football, it's a win-win situation.

I am not really a Giants fan, but I really don't like the Patriots. It would please me greatly if they lost today.
But I do like their owner, so I suppose it is not all bad.

Old Jack is a happy guy.

Jack:
We actually watched the game, and wow, that last drive by the Giants and QB Manning was breathtaking.
Yasher Koach.
Poor Tom Brady, imagine, being consoled in the arms of super hottie Giselle Bundshein.
What a way to lose.

Robert,
That ending was spectacular. If you saw it in a movie you'd scoff, because it was such a fairytale ending.

The last 6 minutes of that Super Bowl last night may go down as the best ending of any pro championship. I am not a Giant fan, but unless you were a big Patriot fan I don't see how you couldn't be won over by Eli Manning on that last drive. The thing I liked the most was the shot of Eli's brother Peyton cheering wildly for his brother after the winning score. That was really nice.
But I am sorry for Bob Kraft. A friend of Israel, a friend of Columbia football, and a friend to Fox Business Network. Luckily, he still has three Lombardi Trophies at home to cheer him up.

Didn't watch the game but heard the last 3 minutes after Mariv - great ending
Wow - seems like someone in California is listening. Romney aheah of McCain - I seriously believe McCain is the left's Trojan horse. They are pushing him like nobodys business - "the only one that can defeat the dems" - gee guys thanks for the help. Funny how they are dumping on Romney - thats a hint that he's the only one left that can really win. McCain is suddenly going to be "too old", too much baggage - (keating 5, dumping old injured wife, volent temper, etc. and the base will stay home ( including me ) He will be the grizzly old guy next to Obama. McCain = Dole = defeat. Suddenly the press will educate the base what a liberal he is - amnesty for illegals, heck - he almost became a democrat after Bush - whacked him. I pray that Romney pulls it out - he ain't perfect - but he's the best we got now.

I agree with Yonason.....
McCain would be a disaster for Republicans; his mean streak is very disturbing too.
As for last nights game.....truly a classic.
Usually these "big games" are a dud, but last night will be recalled and analyzed for years to come.

The big question for me is why more true conservatives didn't run for the GOP nomination in the first place. Romney may be the best conservative choice now, but it's rough when your guy had radically different positions on key issues just a few years ago. In the Internet age, you can't get away with that.
On the other side, the Democrats are very lucky that the Clinton-Obama battle has become all about personalities, because on the issues, they're not really strong or even definable. But I will say that I will not support Hillary under any circumstances and neither should any Republicans even if they are miffed by a McCain nomination.

The big question for me is why more true conservatives didn't run for the GOP nomination in the first place.
Tom Tancredo is a "true" conservative. He didn't get the time of day. Truth is, the GOP is not a truly conservative party; it's full of "moderates." Bush himself is not all that conservative; he's awfully fond of government spending, and is mushy on immigration.

Kishke:
Well, that's a good point. Perhaps this election was lost for conservatives way back in 1994, when the GOP took control of Congress and forced a lot of philosophical conservatives to actually get into government and make compromises. Those kinds of compromises killed Democratic candidates for president for years because they had these long records in the Congress that hurt them. Now it's happening to the GOP.

Good to know about Mitt Romney. I'd already decided to vote for him after receiving a phone message from Bill Simon telling me that I had to vote for McCain because he's the ONLY Republican we can trust to preserve Conservative values on Capitol Hill. When I finally stopped laughing, I decided, "That's it. I'm voting for Romney." But it's good to hear that I'm not alone here.
