The Jew Haters of the Methodist Church

When an organization chooses to target the Jewish state, and only the Jewish state with one sided criticism—propaganda really—charges more suited to a totalitarian regime, then we are inclined see classic Jew hatred.

The United Methodist Women's Division chooses to ignore the terrorist entity of Hamas in Gaza, the terrorism of Fatah, the Islamic State of Iran that denies the Holocaust and threatens to wipe Israel off the face of the earth, they ignore North Korea, a regime that uses famine as a weapon to murder several million of its own citizens, ignores the genocidal regime of Sudan, and of course ignores the 22 Arab countries that make up the Arab League where human rights are abused on an hourly basis. Naturally, these women have no interest in the mass murder and refugees of Congo where 45,000 people die each month, and the devolving state of Kenya.

That's why the United Methodist's Women's Division is a gang of slick, terrorist enabling Jew-haters.

Among the latest exploits of the United Methodist Women’s Division is a children’s book intended to instill anti-Israel themes among Methodist younsters. Innocuously called, “From Palestine to Seattle; Becoming Neighbors and Friends,” the booklet portrays Israel as an oppressor of Palestinians while omitting all mention of terrorism. It was written by Mary Davis, a former United Methodist missionary in “Palestine,” where she led “study tours,” whose political content no doubt was predictable.
The United Methodist Women’s Division, with over $60 million in assets, $30 million in annual income, and nearly 700,000 members, is one of the most powerful women’s groups in America. Its mostly older members, strung across over 30,000 local churches, earn money for their New York-based headquarters with bake sales, Christmas bazaars, and church suppers. Few among them realize that their donations fund causes of the radical left, including anti-Israel activism.
In the children’s story, a Seattle Methodist pastor just returned from “Palestine” shares a letter from a young Arab boy in Bethlehem with his own children. The Arab boy, Tarek, has never been to McDonald's because the closest one is in Jerusalem, and travel there requires a pass by the Israelis. Naturally, the American children are disturbed. In an ongoing pen pal exchange, Tarek asks the American children why their country thinks all Palestinians are terrorists. The Americans are embarrassed. They summon up the nerve to ask Tarek why passes are needed to travel to Jerusalem.

It's almost painful witnessing our friend Yaacov Ben Moshe slicing and dicing a Barak supporter as she defends the Che flag incident. I have to admit, I look at Barak Hussein Obama and his, ahem, fainting believers, and I smell George McGovern.

Seraphic Secret is private property, that's right, it's an extension of our home, and as such, Karen and I have instituted two Seraphic Rules and we ask commentors to act respectfully.

1. No profanity.

2. No Israel bashing. We debate, we discuss, we are respectful. You know what Israel bashing is. The world is full of it. Seraphic Secret is one of the few places in the world that will not tolerate this form of anti-Semitism.

That's it. Break either of these rules and you will be banned.

"... The Jew Haters of the Methodist Church ..."

the manner in which Christians choose to relate to Jews seems to span the entire spectrum from outright hatred to indifference to staunch support ...

the ones you mention seem to be of the Jimmy Carter, and Karen Armstrong brands, and may be suffering more from leftist liberal derangement, than true anti-semitism

(some of the most fanatical anti-semitic groups are quite nationalisticly anti-muslim
(Vlaams Belaang and other far-far-right european groups, and his American, 'David Duke' equivalents)

LGF and Jihad Watch are run by Christians (Robert Spencer is a devout Catholic) who are very pro-Israel,
(there are many others like them,
but i don't visit their sites that frequently, so the names do not come immediately to mind)

The Methodist and Presbyterian hatred for Israel is a by-product of their even stronger hatred for Evangelicals who consistently "embarrass" WASPY types with their outspoken beliefs and religious lifestyle. These people think living as a Christian in American should be about bake sales, drunken golf outings, and the occasional volunteer stint at Habitat for Humanity.

In America today, anti-Israel beliefs--and outright anti-Semitism--are driven largely by those who consider themselves the intelligentsia. Particular social groups are immune to these beliefs to the degree that they are outside the force field centered on the university, NPR, and the NYT.

The Evangelical affinity for Israel is usually credited to theological beliefs, but I think the above factor is at least as important as theology. Most Evangelicals are not NYT-readers or NPR-listeners.

I would bet these media do have high penetration among the members of the UMWD.

Dutch treatment of Hirsi Ali is shameful.

Unfortunately it is not only the Methodists and Presbyterians. Jews, even Israelis, are in on the same game.

This is part of why I consider blogs to be so very important. They can serve as a tremendous resource of critical information that you might not find anywhere else.

Jihad Watch discusses a Declaration against Genocide, long advocated by Robert Spencer

let's see which groups refuse to sign it

it would be interesting to see if Obama will sign it ...

I believe that Carter and Armstrong are classical Jew-haters, not deluded lefties. And Armstrong is probably a jihadist in disguise.

I have no idea if you're theory is correct or not. I'm just not tuned in enough to the sub-cultures of American Christianity.

David:

As always, you make important points.

Reading the New York Times is a stomach-churning experience. Their war against the Jewish State is not even subtle. Correspondents Erlanger and Kirshner are so biased that they can no longer be labeled journalists, but simply hacks for jihad. NPR is known affectionately in my community as National Palestinian Radio.

Thanks so much. The blogosphere is just amazing. I read the MSM, and shrug because half of what I read is liberal propaganda and the other half is lies they won't print. I go to the blogosphere for the real news.

David is right, Jake is half right. We don't read NYT or listen to NPR (rather than being dumb and ignorant for that, as the MSM tries to portray us, I prefer to think we are smart to avoid them!), and we are ridiculed for not keeping our beliefs under wraps.

This action by the Methodist group is reprehensible and embarrassing to me as a Christian. I don't understand the thinking at all.

Thanks so much for jumping in and clarifying. Glad good Christians like you and your friends are with us. We need you. We welcome you.

Just saw the DVD "Farewell Israel" -- there are many Christians who are concerned for the safety and security of Israel and the Jewish people. I think that writer Joel Gilbert makes an important point how the Bush Administration has played into the hands of the Muslim orthodox by trying to democraticize the Arab/Iranian Middle East. Unfortunately, many Christian evangelicals think that the Bush Administration is pro-Christianity and pro-Israel (misled by Marvin Olasky, the inventor of the term "compassionate conservatism.")

Randy:

Thanks so much for your comment. We welcome support from our Christian friends. There's a delicate balancing act that needs to be played out in Arab countries. I don't believe that we can impose Jeffersonian Democracy, but I also don't believe that we should tolerate Islamic thugs who spread jihad.
