Best of the Jewish Blogosphere # 160
I keep telling people that Seven Samurai is a totally Jewish film.
Haveil Havalim #160, The Waffle Edition, is up and running, hosted this week by Life in Israel.
As always, there is much fine material to read and ponder.
We'd like to thank Life in Israel for including my meditation on motherhood, courage, and becoming a grandfather in Seven Samurai and Baby.

Seraphic Secret is private property, that's right, it's an extension of our home, and as such, Karen and I have instituted two Seraphic Rules and we ask commentors to act respectfully.
1. No profanity.2. No Israel bashing. We debate, we discuss, we are respectful. You know what Israel bashing is. The world is full of it. Seraphic Secret is one of the few places in the world that will not tolerate this form of anti-Semitism. That's it. Break either of these rules and you will be banned.
LOL!

I am reading a book now,"In the footsteps of the Lost Ten Tribes" by Avigdor Shachan. His research led him to conclude that the Japanese nation are the descendants of Ephraim. There is a lot of evidence, linguistically and culturally, to back it up. Its quite interesting!

hey Robert, even I got it!

Shouldn't seven samurai have a seven-pointed star?
Posted by: kishke at March 30, 2008 07:28 PM
Robert, did someone initially point out that pattern to you, or did you discover it on your own, being the expert that you are on this great film!?
By the way, what is happening in that scene you've depicted?

I think that my mother has a table cloth that is rather similar.

Diyah:
I was in Japan a few years ago working on a film and I met some Japanese who insisted that they were descended from the lost tribes. I'll pick up the book, thanks.

I never picked it up in the film. I only saw it once I examined stills from the movie.
The peasant girl is washing her hair. Her father is going to cut it to make her less attractive. He's afraid the samurai will, y'know, take advantage of her.

An illustration for Parshat Vayeishev?
Or for your upcoming novel, FFF Couture?

I don't remember. I'd say dartboard but something tells me that I might get into trouble for that one. Oops.
