The Fifth Annual Ariel Avrech Z'TL Memorial Lecture by Rabbi Dr. Gil S. Perl is now available.
Look at the sidebar to the right of this blog, and click the graphic directly below Ariel's picture, the video will download and play.
Karen and I are happy that we can share this special presentation with all our Seraphic Friends. We look forward to your comments.

Seraphic Secret is private property, that's right, it's an extension of our home, and as such, Karen and I have instituted two Seraphic Rules and we ask commentors to act respectfully.
1. No profanity.2. No Israel bashing. We debate, we discuss, we are respectful. You know what Israel bashing is. The world is full of it. Seraphic Secret is one of the few places in the world that will not tolerate this form of anti-Semitism. That's it. Break either of these rules and you will be banned.
It's so wonderful to be able to have this, where we can not only listen and share with friends but also refer to it for study and inspiration.
Ariel's memory is truly a great blessing.
Thank you again

Interesting lecture. I was specifically moved by Rabbi Perl's words regarding the Netziv's synthesis of creativity with Jewish tradition.
Thanks so much for sharing.

Yael:
I don't know if you can tell from the video but the audience was greatly inspired by Rabbi Perl's lecture.
We're glad you too were touched.

I haven't yet had the opportunity to view the video in its entirety -- but will, G-d willing -- but I have to say that it's evident from just the first bit of the rabbi's speech that his words and message are powerful. I especially like how he weaved in the story of Ariel's need to find balance between secular literature and the religious books he was learning from. That is the premise of Seraphic Press, after all, and a wonderful tribute to your son.

Very interesting so far; I'm up to the revelation concerning the Eshkol HaKofer (I have to view in snatches); Emek HaNetziv on Sifrei is a work I've consulted often over the years.
BTW, the Mekor Baruch's story regarding the merchants is usually recounted in the name of R' Chaim Brisker; it's interesting that he attributes it to Netziv (who was a colleague and sometimes rival of R' Chaim).

It's great to see how many people came and participated in this lecture for Ariel.
Finally able to see you in person and connect you with your words. Nice tie.
