Obama: Without the Teleprompter

Obama is great when he's reading off a teleprompter. But when he has to think on his feet, he's a complete disaster, and these two clips are a pretty accurate indication of Obama's rambling cluelessness.

That's why his handlers will never allow Obama to accept McCain't invitation to a series of town meetings. McCain would chew him up and spit him out.

Behold, the shallowness that is Barack Obama. You have to laugh. Give the kid a breathalyzer? Completely incoherent. Obama's excuse? He's short on sleep. Really and truly.

This one is absolutely hysterical. Obama counts on his deep oboe voice to carry him through. But once again, without the teleprompter, Obama rambles, tries to make light and bluff his way out of obvious inoherence. But finally he confesses that he's, y'know, tired. For pity's sake, get the man some waffles.

Obama's rambling answers remind us of you know who.

Seraphic Secret is private property, that's right, it's an extension of our home, and as such, Karen and I have instituted two Seraphic Rules and we ask commentors to act respectfully.

1. No profanity.

2. No Israel bashing. We debate, we discuss, we are respectful. You know what Israel bashing is. The world is full of it. Seraphic Secret is one of the few places in the world that will not tolerate this form of anti-Semitism.

That's it. Break either of these rules and you will be banned.

Send him to Jameel's Waffle House and he'll receive first rate food as well as a valuable lesson about Israel.

Wow, he is really lame. I wonder how he did as a professor.

Is there really a Jameel's Waffle House? Like, real waffles to eat? Any chance of Dutch Babies?

A fool...but a dangerous fool with followers who will not even think this is of any note.

Posted by: thud at June 11, 2008 04:55 PM

Oh My Gosh.....and what is it about this man that gets so many people riled up and excited to have him potentially represent the USA? You would think at least part of the job description is constructing sentences.

And quite honestly, how did he get this far?

Posted by: Rachel at June 12, 2008 08:29 AM

Quite frankly, no one has convinced me to vote for them yet. But Robert, would you call Bush an eloquent speech-giver?

Posted by: cruisin-mom at June 12, 2008 08:53 AM

Pardon me, but what does Bush have to do with it? He's never been passed off as Mr. Articulate. (Frankly, I get angry at people who assume Bush is stupid because he mangles words--my father does the same thing, and he's brilliant.) But Obama has been sold to us as the golden-tongued Savior, and supposedly was a professor of constitutional law at one time. Now, I'm a professor. Thinking on one's feet is part of the job; what's on these videos goes way beyond mangled pronunciation and syntax, it shows a lack of thinking altogether. If I gave lectures like that, even jet-lagged or punchy from writing journal articles all night, I'd be either in Remedial Professor School or out on my ear.

Posted by: DrCarol at June 12, 2008 09:17 AM

he apologizes at the end of the first clip and explains he has not slept much for 48 hours.

makes you wonder how he would manage during a crisis without getting 8 hours a night.

Dr. Carol, my comment was not meant to offend anyone. I don't believe I mentioned anything about Bush being stupid, I just posed the question if he is an eloquent speaker. Robert made a comparison between Obama and the beauty queen, so I was just making a comparison between Obama's speaking abilities and Bush's speaking abilities.

Posted by: cruisin-mom at June 12, 2008 10:05 AM

It really doesn't matter how eloquent or not the candidate may be.....I agree Bush is no wordsmith, a fact that he will be the first to mention.

However, if one wants a future president that will sell our interests down the river...raise taxes....and tell us how to live....then I guess Obama is your man.

Not to mention Obama will give Israel the shaft.

I think Robert has made the case and outlined the issues that should concern us if, heaven forbid, a socialist like Obama becomes president.

Adding the South Carolina chik at the end clears everything up. She can distribute African maps to find the US in Iraq which will hopefully find Osama.
In all fairness, it shows she cares about edumacation.

Cruisin' Mom:

George Bush is not a great speaker, even working with a teleprompter. But his moral vision is sound.
I wish he was a better communicator.

But Barack Obama has been touted as a brilliant speaker, a magnificent orator.

I was trying to point out that: Obama has no record, no maturity, no wisdom, and his moral vision is deeply flawed.

As for his speaking abilities, well, without the teleprompter he's lost and revealed as a sloppy thinker who trades in double talk and meaningless slogans.

Cruisin' mom: I apologize, I didn't mean to conflate what you said and the e-mail I got from a grad student trying to impress me (he is mortified now at his faux pas). No, you didn't say Bush is stupid.

Obama's inability to remember how many states we have and his many other slips of the tongue are being excused as sleep deprivation. I think they are much more ominous than that. I think they show a man who is clueless, careless, naive, shallow, and thoughtless. Not characteristics I want in my President.

Posted by: DrCarol at June 12, 2008 12:19 PM

Well I mean come on now Mr. Avrech! One can't expect the President to give a speech or actually be able to think clearly when they are tired! That is what 8 hours of sleep are for, and naps. Lots of naps for President Obama!!

Dr. Carol, no apology necessary, but appreciated. I'm a bit more liberal than most who visit this site (right Robert?), but, hey, I do know how to tote a gun (right Robert?). And as I said, I'm not convinced yet by either candidate...so all of you conservatives have the chance, right now, to convince me to swing your way :)

Posted by: cruisin-mom at June 12, 2008 01:55 PM

Cruisin' Mom:

Yes you are more liberal and you are the Jewish Annie Oakley.

You should vote for McCain because he will not surrender in Iraq.

He's serious about national security and fighting transnational terrorists.

He will not pussy foot around with terrorist states like Iran.

He will cut taxes.

He will support our right to bear arms.

He will support Israel.

He will not bow down to the U.N. a Jew-hating entity.

Ever since MLK Jr. started to righteously rewrite American history, I think we, as a people, have been genuinely open to moral African-American voices, public figures, and statesmen.

The case of Sen. Obama, however, is that of a man who is literally "African-American," but not a terribly righteous one. His American ethnicity, and even citizenship, are almost accidental: being born in Hawaii (barely after its statehood) to a highly privileged African father. The father's legacy to the son is more of an enigma than a gift - a polygamist, "dead beat dad" who partook of Western opportunities, although without rising to great heights. For people keen on his bloodties, I suspect that Barack Hussein Obama is more closely related to former African slaveowners than to former American slaves.

Barry's knowledge of mainland America began in force only when he attended liberal arts colleges - first in LA, then in NYC. Unfortunately, because of the reality of race in America, he's had to negotiate being darker-skinned, but that in itself is no guarantee of arriving at profound moral and civic virtues.

I've said many times that Bush's inability to be a better communicator has hurt our fight against Jihadists. Never underestimate the fact that Churchill and FDR used their extraordinary gifts of speech to mobilize their very apathetic countries in the years before and during World War II.

It's his #1 flaw in my book and I've been particularly bothered by it since 2001, because I am in almost complete agreement with the actual Jihad-fighting policies of the Bush administration.

What I like about McCain is that he calls everyone's political bluffs. At the end of the day, "issues" like abortion, gay marriage, prayer in the public schools, etc. etc. etc. are nothing compared to the ongoing threat to our country and the entire world posed by suicidal maniacs in the Muslim world and their Western appeasers. Anyone who recognizes this threat can't even entertain for one minute the idea of not voting for McCain.

Ridiculous. 8 years of George Bush and you spend precious time ragging on a couple of Obama clips? Typical wasteful behavior, you should get a job at FOX.
Remove head from buttcheeks soon or you will miss the boat. Change is a comin', and just in time.

Posted by: john at June 16, 2008 01:52 PM

John:

We have also been told that Obama's 20-year relationship with the bigot and Jew-hater Jeremiah Wright does not matter.

That Obama's friendship and political support from terrorists William Ayers and Bernardine Dorn does not matter.

That his relationship with the American hating Michael Pflagar does not matter.

That his cushy relationship with corrupt financier Tony Rezsko doesn't matter.

That his record in the Senate proves that he's just another partisan Democrat as opposed to the bi-partisan leader he claims.

That his lack of experience does not matter.

In the end, nothing matters to Obama's supporters that highlight his deep character flaws and lack of judgement--and the fact that he's a tediously familiar poltician wrapped up in new ribbons.

"Change" is not a coherent political platform. Obama and his supporters repeat this empty mantra to cover up a paper-thin resume and radical collectivist dreams.

If McCain were captured on video mangling simple ideas the way Obama has been captured, the Democrats would accuse him of senility.

If Bush were caught on such tapes the Democrats would use this proof of his stupidity.

But Obama on tape, well what we have is a form of soft racism. Obama is obviously held to a lower standard.

Why on earth would I seek a job at Fox when I have an incredibly successful Hollywood career?
