Best of the Jewish Blogosphere # 174

Screenwriters Ben Hecht & Charles MacArthur urge
you to read Haveil Havalim

Haveil Havalim #174 is up, this week hosted by Yaaquov Ben Yehuda author of that fine blog Esser Agaroth.

Today is The Fast of the 17th of Tammuz, in which we remember the breaching of the walls of Jerusalem which led to the the destruction of the First Temple. Appropriately, Esser Agaroth starts out the carnival with a fine D'var Torah and a list of some of the calamities that befell the Jewish people on this terrible date.

We'd like to thank Esser Agaroth for including Seraphic Secret's white-hot-with-anger-and-frustration post: Swap Teaches Us to Kidnap More.

For those of you who are fasting today, we wish you a meaningful experience. As for me, I'm getting ready for a meaningful migraine.

Seraphic Secret is private property, that's right, it's an extension of our home, and as such, Karen and I have instituted two Seraphic Rules and we ask commentors to act respectfully.

1. No profanity.

2. No Israel bashing. We debate, we discuss, we are respectful. You know what Israel bashing is. The world is full of it. Seraphic Secret is one of the few places in the world that will not tolerate this form of anti-Semitism.

That's it. Break either of these rules and you will be banned.

Karen, Robert,

Thanks for the kind words about the ultra-traumatic post. You guys write like I dream of writing...

While I don't always manage to keep this fast, the last few utterly wrenching days (daze?) gave me a good reason.

I get the migrane part - and how. But this year, I got up at 05:00 and shoveled down food, coffee aspirin and vitamins... We'll see who left standing at 21:30, eh?

Dave:

You're very welcome. Your post on the swap atrocity is wrenching, as it should be.

Yes, this fast is more than meaningful. I feel like the walls of Jerusalem have been shattered once again——with the direct aid of Jews who should know better.

I got up at 5 too, and then promptly fell back to sleep. Go figure.

Have a meaningful and not too skull-exploding fast.

Hi there, we've just discovered your blog by accident - my boyfriend was looking up Theda Bara, and sent me your URL for the great Hollywood eyebrows feature! (My workmate asks, where is Lauren Bacall?) I thought I'd drop you this note just to say how fascinating your whole blog is. The swap post, indeed white hot with anger, is gripping. I'll be looking in again when I have more time; all best for your fast yesterday and your migraine.

Ms. Baroque:

Thanks so much for dropping in. Glad you enjoy our little corner of cyberspace.

Lauren Bacall, real name Bette Joan Perske, is coming to our next installment of Hollywood Eyebrows.

Migraine was not too bad—for a migraine.
