Farewell N.Y. Times

Jean Harlow+Typewriter 01.jpg

Outraged by the porous journalistic ethics of the New York Times, Karen e-mailed the following letter to their editors and circulation department:

I have subscribed to your newspaper for many years but I can no longer trust your news reportage as unbiased since your radical leftist politics permeate every aspect of your newspaper from fashion to book reviews. The final straw was the slanderous, mean spirited, front page article on Cindy McCain. Every day I open your paper to the so-called "corrections" which are really more apologies for sloppy journalism that has omitted or distorted information to suit the viewpoint of your arch leftist reporters.
I just can't read your newspaper with good conscious anymore. You distort science articles on global warming, justify Islamic terror, libel the State of Israel, glorify the death cult society of the Palestinians, and resort to character assassination in the current election. I can no longer subscribe to your paper so please cancel my subscription.
Karen Avrech, Ph.D.

Clearly, Wall Street agrees with Karen about the value of the N.Y Times. At this rate, the NYT will, ahem, wither away and end up on the ash heap of history.

The NY Times splashed Colin Powell's endorsement of Barack Obama all over its front page, but of course they neglected to mention this endorsement.

Here is the comprehensive argument against Barack Obama. Essential reading.

And finally, another story you won't find in the NY Times, because, well, you know, it's a "distraction:" Obama's buddy American terrorist Bill Ayers dedicated his blood-thirsty, Communist manifesto Prairie Fire to, among others, Palestinian terrorist Sirhan Sirhan.

I dunno, when I was a child, my parents told me not to play with certain bad kids because they would influence me whether I knew it or not.

Comments

Seraphic Secret is private property, that's right, it's an extension of our home, and as such, Karen and I have instituted two Seraphic Rules and we ask commentors to act respectfully.

1. No profanity.

2. No Israel bashing. We debate, we discuss, we are respectful. You know what Israel bashing is. The world is full of it. Seraphic Secret is one of the few places in the world that will not tolerate this form of anti-Semitism.

That's it. Break either of these rules and you will be banned.

You hit the nail on the head with how the Times drips its political and geographical biases into every other part of the paper. I could live with the opinions on the editorial page, and even biased stuff on the front page is going to happen, but everything else in the paper is written for upper class east coast liberals only. This Sunday they did a big piece on how teenage girls are going to have to adjust to shopping at non-exclusive clothing stores. Um... I think they meant New York-area RICH and upper middle class girls, but we all know they don't care or know about anyone else anyway. From what I remember, girls everywhere else have been getting stuff at Wal-Mart and Marshall's for years.

Don't even get me started on the sports section.

No wonder someone like Sarah Palin comes along and these people look at her like a Martian.

Again, I don't mind disagreements. But when someone from my own country and even my own neighborhood looks at me and doesn't understand even HOW I think the way I do, something is wrong... with them.

Wow, what took you so long? Hope you're not getting the LA Slimes either! :-) (Nice letter, by the way, Karen!)

maybe Karen, (or any of us who feel as she does),
can send e-mails to this site instead:

Wow, thanks for the link.

BTW, my wife and I dropped our subscription to the Times (for good) 4 years ago after a patently dishonest front page story about missing arms in Iraq.

It isn't that Sen. Obama has outraised Sen. McCain by 3 to 1, or that Sen. McCain has run an imperfect campaign, it's that it's nearly impossible to run against the MSM.

Hopefully, this election serve as a watershed when their influence is eroded by their obvious effort to be both umpire and player for one side.

What disturbs me the most is the fact that after McCain-Feingold, the media have much greater influence over our elections. They wanted McCain and Obama and now they are openly supporting Obama. Scarey.

The Times of NY and LA both are partisan rags. They should just be honest and admit it.

Have you ever heard the anecdote regarding Jean Harlow and Margot Asquith. Harlow once adressed Asquith by her first name, but mispronounced the second syllable as rhyming with "hot." The quick-witted Asquith informed her that the "t" is silent, "as in Harlow."

Jake:

If the NY Times stated that they were a leftist publication, well, fine. But they insist that they are objective journalists.

This is a lie, an insult to the public, and it spells doom for any newspaper that maintains such a dishonest stance.

Nedra:

What took us so long?

For Karen: the crossword puzzle.

For me: Karen's love of the crossword puzzle.

Thanks for the link. Great site.

Soccer Dad:

You're very welcome.

Indeed, McCain is running against Obama-Biden and the left wing media. They are not liberal. That designation is a lie. JFK was a liberal. RFK was a liberal. Scoop Jackson was a liberal. Hubert Humphrey, and of course Joe Lieberman.

These long gone liberals would not recognize their party and would become Republicans in a heartbeat.

Doctor:

Obama can and does lie at every turn, but the MSM are racists of the worst kind because they hold black people to a lower standard.

BTW, why is Obama black? His mother was white, and his black father, a complete bum, abandoned him. Obama was raised by his white mother and white grandparents.

Oh wait, maybe he's black because for over 20 years he attended a separatist black church that cheers Jew and America hatred.

Yeah, that works nicely.

Kishke:

Famous anecdote to be sure.

But so unfair because Harlow was a very decent girl who just wanted to get married, have babies and live a normal life.

Posted by: Robert J. Avrech [TypeKey Profile Page] at October 23, 2008 05:15 PM

It was more about Asquith's cleverness than Harlow's actual behavior.

Posted by: kishke at October 23, 2008 05:30 PM

Kishke:

Yes, I understand, but I feel deeply protective of Harlow's reputation. She was a great star, a lovely girl, and died when only 26 because her mother, a Christian Scientist, refused medical care for her very sick daughter.
