![]()
Zahava tags Seraphic Secret.
Homework. I mean, tagged by Zahava AKA Mrs. Treppenwitz.
5 things I was doing 10 years ago:
1) Karen and I were dealing with Ariel's ZT'L cancer.
2) Trying to keep life as normal as possible for the girlses.
3) Writing and producing in Hollywood.
4) Spending way too much time creating elaborate photo-montage scrapbooks.
5) Creating a financial portfolio that would allow us to build wealth.
5 things on my to-do list today:
1) Drink my morning cup of coffee. Karen prepares a cold water brew that goes with us even when we travel. All other coffee tastes like acid-drenched mud, including wretched Starbucks, yuck!
2) Work on my script.
3) Publish this blog post.
4) Speak to my agent about stuff.
5) Try not to annoy Karen with too many phone calls because I really miss her during the day and maybe I should just sign up as a patient and she can be my therapist.
5 snacks I love:
1) Dark chocolate.
2) Power bars. Karen has this uncanny ability to locate and purchase really exotic brands.
3) Coffee yogurt.
4) Ice Coffee.
5) Coffee beans.
5 things I'd do if I were a millionaire:
1) Donate $ in Ariel's memory to all the yeshivas he attended.
2) Arrange it so Karen and I lived near our girlses.
3) Build an excellent screening room and purchase lots of movies for my film library.
4) Buy Karen anything she wants. A safe offer because Karen's not one of these girlishly unhinged women who lusts after jewelry, clothing, or sleek cars.
5) Invest wisely for a million dollars is not really all that much money.
5 places I have lived:
1) Brooklyn, N.Y.
2) Annandale-on-Hudson, N.Y.
3) Israel.
4) Manhattan.
5) Los Angeles.
5 jobs I have had:
1) Stock room schlepper for bookstore.
3) Busboy in the Catskills.
3) Hebrew tutor.
4) Editor-in-Chief of a film magazine.
5) Hollywood screenwriter and producer.
I'm tagging all my readers and every blogger I know.

Seraphic Secret is private property, that's right, it's an extension of our home, and as such, Karen and I have instituted two Seraphic Rules and we ask commentors to act respectfully.
1. No profanity.2. No Israel bashing. We debate, we discuss, we are respectful. You know what Israel bashing is. The world is full of it. Seraphic Secret is one of the few places in the world that will not tolerate this form of anti-Semitism. That's it. Break either of these rules and you will be banned.
Do you ever consider that perhaps your love for anything coffee-related might make for your migraines? (coffee/chocolate are real triggers)

Enjoyed your revelations (although I've been reading this blog for so long I think I kinda knew most of them). re Karen's non-materialistic tendencies - um...I've seen some of those shoes. Not so plain Jane. at all.
Note to Pearl - from what I hear, caffeine is one of the things that soothes headaches.

Pearl:
As long as I don't drink too much coffee, I'm okay. And yes, as Mata Hari says, when I have headaches caffeine can sometimes help.

Mata Hari:
Karen shops for her shoes at Loehmann's. That's pretty plain Jane, especially when you consider that we live five minutes from Rodeo Drive.

They don't look it
kudos to Karen

Build an excellent screening room and purchase lots of movies for my film library.
That is definitely on a list of things for my house. Now if only I didn't have to worry about private school I might dare to consider it. ;)

Somehow I can't imagine you as a busboy. I'll bet you ran off to the side to write down bits about the hotel guests. It'll all probably go in the next book.

Mata Hari:
Karen is the champ of discount shopping.
I loved being a bus boy. It was an amazing sub culture, waiters, bus boys, insane chefs, power-hungry managers, always hungry guests. "Grand Hotel" in the Catskills.

"4) Buy Karen anything she wants. A safe offer because Karen's not one of these girlishly unhinged women who lusts after jewelry, clothing, or sleek cars."
Where do you find women like that?
On being a busboy: I have a friend from Hong Kong who is now a very successful CPA. However when he first arrived here he was a busboy at a famous Sacramento Chinese restaurant that has been for generations a watering hole for Sacramento state politicians.
As a busboy he was a fly on the wall - there but ignored.
Two things he mentioned always stayed with me. At 5:00 PM at the bar lobbyists were all there with open checkbooks - whatever a politician wanted was provided.
The only 2 politicians who wouldn't take any lobbyist's money were Jerry Brown and Ronald Reagan.

Yeah, so you tagged us all--are you going to read all our responses?
Didn't think so :-p So that means we don't have to do it!

I loved the comment above about the lobbyists and politicians oblivious to the busboys. Today, the busboys are probably wired FBI agents. Speaking of which, who thinks the Illinois Governor is in his right mind? Forgetting for a moment he is a Democrat does his conduct imply insanity? The FBI press attache seemed to suggest so. And Robert thanks for being the first writer in print (that I've seen) to speak the truth on Starbucks. Acid drenched, bitter, and if I'm not mistaken, the beans have a distinct essence of mold!

Thank you for a wonderful blog...I stumbled upon your blog whilst googling images of the Kotel, and have spent the past 1.5 hours reading... fascinating!

Thanks for being a good sport and playing! :-)
(Trep was not amused by my tagging him!
Was not at all surprised that you were a bus boy in the Catskills. Given that a good portion of Brooklyn moves "en masse" up route 17 for the summer, it seems a logical summer job for a nice Jewish boy.
Of course, I am giggling now, as I picture the waiters "behind the scenes" in Dirty Dancing which definitely put a particular slant on the whole "summer in the Catskills" scene.
In all seriousness, given the "patient population" of the hotels am sure that job was excellent preparation for life in general! Having spent some time during the summers that aways, I imagine that the comedic line "Ladies, is anything alright?!" might have had more than a twinge of biting truth to it...

I also thought bus boy=dirty dancing
It's always interesting to see what people reveal in these memes.
If it weren't Friday, I'd take up the challenge. If someone (anyone) reminds me, next week, bli neder, I'm game.
Setting up my new internet diet has taken a lot of my computer time. Details on me-ander.blogspot

Sadly, no one took me seriously. Next time I'll tag specific people so they feel obligated, heh, heh.

Elizabeth:
I don't get the Starbucks fetish. The coffee is lousy and the prices are sky high and they expect you to clean up after yourself as if you're a Catskill busboy.
Bizarre what people will do for a dopey brand name.

Zahava:
Karen was really surprised that I participated in this MEME. "It's so personal," she said.
But "How I Married Karen" is somehow not so personal.
Someday I'm going to write a film about my days as busboy. Sorry, no dirty dancing.
