My Beautiful Neighborhood VII

flag.jpg
Great signage right off Pico Blvd. This is the store where I buy
all my American and Israeli flags and lapel pins.

As I've said, I love to roam the alleyways here in my neighborhood.
This row of garages has layers of texture topped by wonderfully muted colors.

They don't build hinges like they used to. From the Griffith Observatory.

Another self-portrait. This one in a superbly broken mirror in one of my
beautiful neighborhood's alleys.

Last week Karen and I visited Bensonhurst, our old Brooklyn neighborhood. It used to be a predominately Italian-Irish neighborhood with small, quivering pockets of Jews. Now Russian and Korean immigrants dominate. I'm a sucker for brilliantly colored walls with great signage. It also helps when it's raining and the streets are film noir slick.

The moment you've all been waiting for: Friday footwear. Offspring #2 is a busy wife and mother, but she still makes time to purchase new shoes. These classic flats with whispery ankle straps are the love child of Moira Shearer in The Red Shoes and Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday. “Carlo, you simply must take me dancing in the silvery moonlight. Pronto!”

Karen and I wish all our friends and relatives a restful and miraculous Shabbat.

Seraphic Secret is private property, that's right, it's an extension of our home, and as such, Karen and I have instituted two Seraphic Rules and we ask commentors to act respectfully.

1. No profanity.

2. No Israel bashing. We debate, we discuss, we are respectful. You know what Israel bashing is. The world is full of it. Seraphic Secret is one of the few places in the world that will not tolerate this form of anti-Semitism.

That's it. Break either of these rules and you will be banned.

I really like the broken mirror self-portrait. And those are nice looking shoes.

Isn't it time you share some of your own footwear with us, Robert? Or are Top-Siders the only way to go?

Reflection shots can be so wondrous at times.

Have a wonderful Shabbos. (shall I send you some of our massive snowfall?)

The first picture is great. Love the shoes.

Since I saw those couple of posts last night that were so vile and anti Semitic I have to say that I felt a sense of shame - at what I have been wondering?

This morning I decided that my sense of shame should be directed at Mankind - that some should harbor such evil in their hearts to say such things. 9 years ago (in a couple of weeks) my girl friend was murdered and I can remember in an internet bit of disagreement with someone - that person said something just as vile about her (and her death) as this individual had directed at Robert's and Karen's son.

As I sat through the trial - looking at the man accused of strangling her - I came to believe that there are some people that are genuinely evil - whether they can change or not is open to debate. I suppose - as Corrie Ten Boom said in her book The Hiding Place - she would meet the SS guard who tormented her at Ravensbrueck at a church 10 years later - anything is possible - but for that person to have such a transformation has to have an encounter with God I believe. Corrie wrote that the man asked her for forgiveness and wanted to shake her hand - and it was all she could do to shake his hand.

The 2 women from Northern Ireland - one Catholic and one Protestant - who came together to decry the violence - facing daily death threats together had to have a divine spirit in them.

I remember my late Great aunt telling me of an encounter with Hitler at a Bayreuth Festival in the 1930s. My aunt was a free spirit from Los Angeles who was able to travel in the 1930s. She said how "charming" Hitler was at that festival.

And yet Hitler, who was kind to children and dogs, certainly had to have had a demonic spirit.

Certainly there are people who have invited Evil into their hearts today.

I just wanted to say that having read those posts - I felt ashamed that Robert - who has run this site with only good intentions - should have to endure this.

I agree they are vile, and wish I had the ability to expunge them before Robert sees them. I must admit my dominant emotion is great anger.

There are hateful and evil people in the world, and here is a prime specimen. No doubt this poor excuse of a person (for I believe both posts were written by one person) feels a great sense of accomplishment at this verbal vomit. It is no accomplishment. It is vile. Its sentiments are not shared by the many Gentiles who regularly post on this site, nor by many, many more who recognize Evil when they see its face.

We are united against you, Evil. We shall not let your lies stand unchallenged. We understand that your mission is to destroy anyone not made in your putrid image, and we will oppose you at every turn.

Go crawl back into the sewer from whence you came.

I'm glad to see the comments on this. I kept coming back to the site, hoping that some technical miracle would make this hate disappear.

May Robert be comforted by all these words of support, and by the knowledge of how many people have benefitted from Ariel's story which is so selflessly shared here.

Dr. Carol, I always enjoy your posts and want to take the opportunity to wish a very merry Christmas for you and your family.

Just like the above posters,I was outraged by the filth that was left on this wonderful site. This website has been my comfort over the past few months and Robert has been a ray of sunshine.
It was Benjamin Disraeli who said;"The greatest good you can do for another is not just to share your riches but to reveal to him his own." Believe me when I say Robert and this site has enriched me.Thank you and you, your family and Ariel are forever in my prayers.

Karen and I greatly appreciate all your lovely comments and emotional support. The stupidity came in over Shabbos so I did not see it until after sundown.

I'm going to alert the International Jewish Conspiracy to this loser and we're going to invade his brain through the fillings in his teeth:-)

B"H, I didn't see the stuff. I now have comment moderation because of some comments. I hate the delay for the nice stuff, but I couldn't leave the other things up.

Great pictures. Reminds me that I took pictures of shoes to post and didn't get around to it.

Robert,
Gut voch. I didn't see the vile posting either, but I have a feeling you'll have to drill a little bit lower to get to his brains :)

Thank you, Katherine--and a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to your family too. And, as Tiny Tim said, "G-d bless us, every one."
