The Mosque of Red Death

Day 18 of The War.

Seraphic Secret will update this post throughout the day, so just keep scrolling down.

Christians attend Church, where they worship, sing, listen to a sermon, and when they leave, generally, feel closer to G-d, closer to their family, closer to their fellow man.

Jews go to shul, Synagogue, pray, listen (okay, sometimes not) to the Rabbi discuss the Torah portion of the week, and then, generally they feel closer to G-d, closer to their friends and family—and oh yeah, unbelievably hungry.

Muslims in Gaza go to their local Mosque and, well, let's roll the videotape:

9:55 am PST Here's Jack with his invaluable Gaza War Update numero 15.

10: 00 am PST
Continuing their super hero efforts, The Muqata and Aussie Dave live-blog The War.

10:08 am PST You know how Israel is always being accused of war crimes, genocide, apartheid, you name it. It's all a blood-libel, of course, for truth has been eclipsed by rabid Jew-hatred. But for those who are interested in truth, here's a video of real refugees, (excuse me, but hiking 20, 30 or one hundred miles does not make you a refugee) fleeing genuine genocide—committed by Arab Muslims—now living in Israel.H/T Aussie Dave.

10:28 am PST Using civilians as human shields is not an aberration but a religious and social doctrine woven into the Palestinian industry of death. H/T Aussie Dave.

11:11 am PST Exhausted by all the news of war? We feel your pain. So, here's a brief excursion into an obscure but absolutely fascinating slice of Hollywood history. Don't thank me, I'm a giver.

Madgebellamy.gif
Silent film star Madge Bellamy

A few years ago, I was up in Toronto, on location for Within These Walls, a film the Academy Award winning actress Ellen Burstyn, acting as producer and star, asked me to write. Ellen, one of the great Hollywood actresses—past and present—discovered the true story and immediately realized its potential as a powerful and entertaining film. The challenge of playing a hardened murderess—redeemed by training dogs for the disabled—greatly appealed to Ms. Burstyn.

Head on over to Big Hollywood for my article, The Madge Bellamy Acting Workshop.

11:47 am PST I'm told by several reliable sources that the IDF is calling up massive numbers of reserves. Numerous tanks are on the move. Overhead, drones circle Gaza 24/7. IDF Chief of Staff Gabi Ashkenazi is anxious to crush Hamas once and for all. He has a rock-solid plan that, so far, is working beautifully, and tons of excellent intel. The order of battle calls for using overwhelming force—ground troops, air strikes, and naval bombardment—against the terrorist entity in Gaza. Apparently, there is indecision in the government, Livni, Barak and Olmert disagreeing on the next step. We hear that Gen Ashkenazi is angry, frustrated. The IDF understands that if Hamas survives this war, they will claim victory. Hence, the IDF are determined to humiliate Hamas, cripple their infrastructure of terror and send a message to terrorists everywhere that if you spill Jewish blood, you will cease to exist.

4:03 pm PST I just had lunch with my agent. We discussed various projects, my scripts, a deal-in-progress, the possibility of the actor's going out on strike, the scores of Hollywood execs fired in the past few weeks because of the recession—and I just felt awful. I'm in Hollywood but my heart and my soul are with the IDF in Gaza.

4:11 pm PST
My friend Double Tapper has been called up and he's in Gaza now. Do visit his fine blog so you can say hello and offer support. He's an excellent man. Before he left for war he posted this from the Book of Amos:

610x.jpg

Thus saith the LORD: For three transgressions of Gaza, yea, for four, I will not reverse it: because they carried away captive a whole captivity, to deliver them up to Edom.

So will I send a fire on the wall of Gaza, and it shall devour the palaces thereof;
And I will cut off the inhabitant from Ashdod, and him that holdeth the sceptre from Ashkelon; and I will turn My hand against Ekron, and the remnant of the Philistines shall perish, saith the Lord G-D.

6:19 pm PST Hey, guess what Jack's been doing?

1. Taking the lovely Mrs. Jack out for dinner and dancing.

2. Attending Daf Yomi.

3. Gaza War Update #16.

8:34 pm PST Pop Quiz: What happens to the poor Gitmo prisoners once they are released?

1. They take the little lady dancing.

2. They join inter-faith dialog groups and share with priests, ministers and rabbis.

3. They return to the warm embrace of Muslim terrorism.

If you answered #1, you're a bit naive. If the little lady is caught dancing she is stoned to death.

If you answred #2, then you're either a member of the ACLU, or deeply stupid.

If you answered #3, then you're IQ is above two digits. Mazal tov!

The Pentagon said on Tuesday that 61 former detainees from its military prison camp at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, appear to have returned to terrorism since their release from custody.

Full story here

President-elect Barack Obama has promised to sign an executive order on his first day in office to close Gitmo. Because, obviously, that's the most pressing business facing these United States. Now we can all sleep safe and sound.

BB is dressed to kill—the Muslim terrorists.

Seraphic Secret is private property, that's right, it's an extension of our home, and as such, Karen and I have instituted two Seraphic Rules and we ask commentors to act respectfully.

1. No profanity.

2. No Israel bashing. We debate, we discuss, we are respectful. You know what Israel bashing is. The world is full of it. Seraphic Secret is one of the few places in the world that will not tolerate this form of anti-Semitism.

That's it. Break either of these rules and you will be banned.

The family that prays together, stays together. The families that shoot weapons from their "holy buildings" while trying to kill their neighbors... well, they go to hell -- quickly!

Seriously though, the Hamas-holes who say that "Palestinians want death like Israelis want life" are... well, I guess the word would be "prophetic" -- cause that's what they're gonna get!

As an aside -- what religion promises you 72 virgins (i.e. sexual gratification) when you die? Seriously, doesn't every one else talk about salvation, enlightenment, something pious... Muslims want sex in their afterlife... really?

>Jews go to shul, Synagogue, pray, listen
>(okay, sometimes not)

Your belief that Christians do listen to their sermons is really quite touching.

Robert,

Since my first comment, you've added the story from Aussie Dave about the refugees finding a safe haven in Israel -- a wonderful story which REALLY highlights the differences between Israel and the Arab terrorists!

Well Done!

PJ

P.S. -- I always *try* to stay focused on the sermon. My pastor is a friend and neighbor!!! He'd let me know if he saw me sleeping during his sermon! :-)

Posted by: ProphetJoe at January 13, 2009 12:06 PM

I'm the other way around... I think the sermon is the only really good part. Until the food, of course.

Posted by: Jake at January 13, 2009 12:31 PM

My dad is my pastor. Woe to me if I don't pay attention!

Posted by: DrCarol at January 13, 2009 02:58 PM

I fear it depends on the pastor. When I was growing up, ours was a nice man and in most ways a good pastor, but putting together a coherent sermon was not one of his greater skills.

Kudos for the best blog post title I've seen in a long time.

You're probably the only blogger in the world who can naturally segue from covering Israel's war with Islamic terrorism to showing pictures of silent film hotties. That's a talent most of us just don't have (but wish we did).

Posted by: Jonathan at January 13, 2009 06:07 PM

"4:03 pm PST I just had lunch with my agent."

Look at the time -- that's Hollywood for ya!

Posted by: ProphetJoe at January 13, 2009 07:18 PM

Seeing as how Hamas uses human shields and Mosques for cover I wonder why it isn't more widely reported in the west - a rhetorical question I know as most of us know the answer.

I think good always wind in the end but along the way it can sure be frustrating and perplexing.

Hard to be so busy, but it does keep one out of trouble.

Posted by: Jack at January 13, 2009 08:32 PM

Regarding those people who accuse Israel of war crimes, genocide, and apartheid: Did you ever run across a more clear-cut case of projection in your LIFE?

Posted by: Miranda Rose Smith at January 14, 2009 01:50 AM

Robert
I saw the film "Defiance" last night. The one with Daniel Craig about Jewish fighters and civilians living in the forests of Belorussia during WW2. Did you see it ? Did you like it ? I hope this minor distraction is welcome.

Here's an honest discussion that blends capitalism into the current troubles.

Richard, I'll see your Mises link and raise you one Finkelstein:

Posted by: Ari at January 14, 2009 09:42 AM

Sure, Richard, what an honest piece, recycling the Pali propaganda chestnuts about "the cycle of violence" and Israel being a terrorist state, and pretending that Hamas is not anti-Semitic when they are constantly threatening Jews world-wide, not just in Israel. As for Finkelstein's piece, it's enough to make you puke.

Joe:

A have always wondered what the female homicide bombers get: 72 guy virgins, or just straight up Islamolesbians.

Perplexing theological issues.

Michael:

I always assume that pious Christians are more, um, polite, than we are.

Stunned to hear that I'm mistaken.

My father is a Rabbi, so I'm always listening.

I look forward to watching the guys in my early minyan wash down the cholent with Scotch—at 9 am!

Dr. Carol:

As I said, my father is a Rabbi. We're in the same boat.

Thanks so much. We pride ourselves on bridging the unfortunate gap between war in Gaza and silent film stars:-)

Hey, it was a working lunch.

Definitely frustrating, but the alternative is not an option.

Jack:

Keep up the fine work.

Miranda:

Classic projection from the deepest pathologies. It's almost funny.

Posted by: Robert J. Avrech [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 14, 2009 11:42 AM

Ted:

It's wonderful to see a film about Jews who fight. Normally, Hollywood is only interested in dead Jews, Jews as victims.

I like the film. Recommend it to all.

Thanks for asking.

I loved Defiance.
