Israeli Elections 2009

As you can see, Israeli ballots are incredibly high-tech.

A few notes about the elections in Israel. And I'm going to keep it simple.

1. Contrary to what you've heard in the MSM, Livni's Kadima party has not won. All the ballots have not been counted. The military vote is not yet in. Sound familiar? And those ballots will not be counted until Wednesday and Thursday. You can expect the military to go, duh, right. Most soldiers are too rooted in basic reality to dive left, an ideology built on the quicksand of theory.

2. The left wing parties, Labor and Meretz were kicked to the curb. Hard. The Israeli public completely rejected the appeasement policies of the delusional left. Seraphic Secret says, “Mazal Tov!”

3. Even if Kadima wins a few more seats, Likud has a larger bloc, thanks to Avigdor Lieberman's new right wing party, Yisrael Beiteinu, Israel is Our Home, with 14 seats. Thus Livni cannot form a coalition. We believe Benjamin Netanyahu will almost certainly be asked by President Peres to form the next government.

4. This is very good news as Israel will need a strong PM to counter Obama's obvious naivete in dealing with Iran and the larger aggressive and hostile Islamic world. Really, watching Obama bow and scrape to regimes who yearn to commit genocide is not unexpected, but deeply disheartening.

5. Good riddance to Ehud Olmert, the most vile Jewish leader since King Ahab. And as the Talmud informs us, Ahab and his wife Jezebel were wicked murderers but at least they kept a kosher kitchen.

Seraphic Secret is private property, that's right, it's an extension of our home, and as such, Karen and I have instituted two Seraphic Rules and we ask commentors to act respectfully.

1. No profanity.

2. No Israel bashing. We debate, we discuss, we are respectful. You know what Israel bashing is. The world is full of it. Seraphic Secret is one of the few places in the world that will not tolerate this form of anti-Semitism.

That's it. Break either of these rules and you will be banned.

I dunno, we've had some bad leaders in between, too...

Peres might give Livni a chance to try and buy Lieberman.

Dear Robert: I'm glad to learn the military ballots arn't all counted. I was very worried when I heard on the radio this morning that Livni might get in. The trouble is, I remember how long it took to put a government together in 1990. I had the feeling I was living in the middle of a Gilbert & Sullivan operetta. I said, at the time, that I preferred living in a Gilbert & Sullivan operetta to living in a Gerald Seymour novel. But the times being what they are now, Israel cannot afford any Gilbert & Sullivan nonsense. It would be like watching a performance of H.M.S. Pinafore at the Iroquois Theatre in Chicago. (The Iroquis Theatre was a horrible firetrap. 603 people died in a fire there, in December of 1903.)

Robert,
You obviously don't know how dirty it gets here after an election. I wouldn't put it past both Leiberman and Shas to sell out to the highest bidder, especially since Leiberman has a court case over his head. Both of these parties were in Olmert's government until almost the very end - and they left because it was expedient for them to do so, not out of idealogy.

Finally some news of hope, Netanyahu is someone neither smitten nor intimidated with/by Obama...a welcome change!
Thank you for posting the beautiful blue ballot box and the ballots look like calligraphy....lovely!

I thought Jezebel's one saving grace was that she clapped and celebrated at all the Jewish weddings. Thus, the dogs who ate her body left her hands untouched.

Am I forgetting my 8th grade Navi test material?

I was listening to Michael Medved yesterday - he had on the radio his brother Johnathon who lives in Israel. Apparently Netanyahu will become P.M. after Jonathon explained the labyrinth of Israeli politics.

He said there is even a party in Israel devoted to marijuana? And as allies the party has holocaust survivors? If true perhaps one could say "only in Israel"...

How there can even be a left in Israel devoted to appeasement is beyond me. After what the country has faced since 1948.

On the plus side he said that 75% of the Palestinians now hate HAMAS. Wonder why...

What's the story with Lieberman? What makes him different or possibly better than Netanyahu?

Posted by: Jeremiah at February 11, 2009 08:31 AM

Bill,

That's correct the MJ party hooked up with the survivors party. (I don't think that they met the cutoff.)

Jeremiah,

Lieberman is probably a lot like Netanyahu, he used to be Netanyahu's bureau chief. (I guesss that's a chief of staff.) Lieberman is also rather outspoken and as Westbank Mama points out, he's got an investigation going on.

Openly he seems to be favoring Netanyahu, but as WBM points out above, he can be remarkably expedient when necessary.

Those ballots are incredibly beautiful. Thank you for the photo.

I am both glad and relieved to hear that Netanyahu will most likely be the next Prime Minister.

It's even more complicated. I have serious doubts about Bibi.

Robert:
That would be good riddance to:
Ehud Ol'merde (French spelling).

Thanks for the photo of the ballot box, it brings back memories for me the last time I voted for Bibi.

Robert:
Will Netanyahu bomb Iran, even if Obama doesn't approve?!

Posted by: Paul D. Gilbert at February 17, 2009 03:46 PM

Paul:

Israel bombed the Syrian nuclear facility because it was a mortal threat. Iran will be neutralized. Israel knows that Obama is not a strong ally and they are planning accordingly.
