Jihad Against Starbucks
A Manhattan Starbucks was bombed early this morning.
It's not widely reported but Jihadists have targeted the Starbucks chain because the logo, according to these Jew-haters, represents the Jewish Queen Esther.

It's easy to laugh at such obvious lunacy, but this conspiracy world view—Jews control everything—is the norm in the Muslim world. Such easy narratives serve to explain why the Muslim world is steeped in squalor, violence and ignorance.
The Terror Wonk explains it all.

Seraphic Secret is private property, that's right, it's an extension of our home, and as such, Karen and I have instituted two Seraphic Rules and we ask commentors to act respectfully.
1. No profanity.2. No Israel bashing. We debate, we discuss, we are respectful. You know what Israel bashing is. The world is full of it. Seraphic Secret is one of the few places in the world that will not tolerate this form of anti-Semitism. That's it. Break either of these rules and you will be banned.

Most but not all of this conspiratorial world view can be chalked up to anti-Semetism. I think at least some of it must be credited to the Wahhabi religion itself, with its medieval foundation, that seeks out simplistic narratives rather than fact. For example, they still hunt witches in Saudi Arabia, and only 50 years ago, there was the famous fatwah making it a crime to subscribe to anything other than the flat earth theory.

Poor Starbucks. If going through a difficult downsizing isn't enough (1000s of stores closing), and people these days deciding a $4 cup of coffee isn't a necessity (including moi) isn't enough - they get this.
Reminds of of the problems Proctor and Gamble had a few years ago when a certainly group of people thought their logo was from the devil.

The joy of having to deal with people- some of them are just not bright. It is a more polite way of saying sometimes we're stuck working with fools.

*This* morning? Check your calendar. You've still got 2008 up on your wall.

Robert:
Once again you have forgotten the position of power Jews hold in this country and that muslims are routinely rounded up and shipped to secret prisons. Walt and Mearsheimer told us the Israeli lobby runs the country and I assume you are using your power to tell Obama what to do.
I look forward to this post being proof of the strength of the Israeli lobby in the next book by Walt and Mearsheimer.

GW:
Thanks so much for the link. Yes, the Wahhabi brand of Islam is, in itself, a muddle of medieval conspiracy theories mixed with 7th century tribal barbarism.

Interesting to learn about yet another stupid fatwah. However, I reckon this bomb probably wasn't planted by Islamists, since it exploded early in the morning when no-one was around, and didn't have nails in it.

I'm not big fan of Starbucks coffee, but I'm going to make a point of buying a latte or two during the next few weeks.

Inept terrorists are just a few short steps away from lethal, mass murdering terrorists.
It's not just lethality, this bomb will put a chill on Starbuck's business. Don't you think people will think twice about entering on of their shops?

Robert, you misunderstand me. I wasn't saying that this bomb was OK. I was just saying that Islamist terrorists tend not to bother with the threat stage and just get right on with killing people.
I wouldn't say there was anything inept about this bomb, either. A failure to put nails in it isn't a mistake; it's deliberate. And the police are linking it to a few bombs that have all gone off around the same time of day, which implies that the timer was working.
Sadly, we'll know when the Jihad starts against Starbuck's, because some bastard will chuck a grenade into one at lunchtime.

I guess I ought to avoid their over-priced bitter coffee when I go to NY soon.

I'm a tea drinker, but I go to Starbucks a lot, mostly for the pastries (the tea is okay). The one at Alma Mater U used to sell the most delicious almond croissants....oh man. I miss those.
But the chocolate hazelnut biscotti will be an adequate substitute. I think I shall go visit my neighborhood Starbucks tomorrow.
