Hillsdale College: The Films of 1939, Day Three
Hillsdale has a fine athletics program, baseball, footbal, basketball, track and field, etc. But what grabs my heart is their shooting range.
At Hillsdale your practice the Second Amendment.
Here is your faithful screenwriter observing the range, getting ready to shoot trap.
I'm using a Beretta 12 gauge shotgun. The clay flies at about 40mph, and the range is approximately 50 yrds. You can see the shell ejecting from the gun. Of about 20 shots, I only hit the clay three times. It is very difficult.
Have to run to a screening of Ninotchka.
Movies and firearms; it's a wonderful life.

Seraphic Secret is private property, that's right, it's an extension of our home, and as such, Karen and I have instituted two Seraphic Rules and we ask commentors to act respectfully.
1. No profanity.2. No Israel bashing. We debate, we discuss, we are respectful. You know what Israel bashing is. The world is full of it. Seraphic Secret is one of the few places in the world that will not tolerate this form of anti-Semitism. That's it. Break either of these rules and you will be banned.
This is such enjoyable reading. (almost as good as footwear) Thank you for taking the time to share it with us.

I think you should have Friday Firearms for those of us who are indifferent to footwear (although I did love the steel-toed boots photo).

eek! Jews with Guns!
We cannot have them doing that, now can we?

You are looking very buff, Robert. If I may say so.

Man Robert - trap shooting in the snow! You are hard core! Maybe like golfers use an orange clay pigeon?
Oh wait, they already are orange ;-)
If you have someone next to you with a hand thrower they are a lot easier.
Trap shooting and screening movies. Sounds like fun!

Are you getting ready to join our security forces?

Now if Hillsdale had a Hogan's Alley or IDPA team, I'd consider being a Senior Citizen Student.

You know, you're there watching movies and shooting skeet, while the rest of us have to listen to jerks like Joe Biden promising the Palestinians one contiguous state!
But at least the snow here in Cincinnati has already melted. ;-)

Okay, I've studied the Hillsdale football roster and I think some of these kids could transfer to Columbia right now and make an impact. The running back, Vinnie Panizzi, is top notch. I also like the QB Troy Weatherhead is a serious star. Drew Berube is a sack master! These kids can play!

Never really saw much of guns living in NY (except in a heist). Now that I live in Houston I noticed more religious Jews who have concealed weapon permits.

Are you wearing earplugs, or is that a refined quiet kind of shotgun?

Barzilai - I see a bright red earplug in the first photo (the one where Robert's got the Beretta in the crook of his arm).

Studying Numbers & now I understand the tassels & blue band on prayer shawls.

I am soooo giggling right now!
Next time you are in our neck of the woods, you must remind me to show you my lichter tray! It is a first-prize trap shooting trophy my grandfather (z"l) won in one of his many trap shooting competitions!
Shabbat Shalom to you and Karen!

Hello! I'm a Hillsdale student who just happened upon your blog through google. I'm exceedingly happy that you've enjoyed the shooting range (we all like it very much) and I thought you might enjoy knowing that the college offers a shotgun course to fulfill the athletic requirement (amongst standard athletic courses, obviously) and a personal safety course where you get to shoot handguns, rifles, and even an M16!
I have friends at other schools who appear shocked or even frightened if I bring this up, but I see nothing alarming about exercising your Constitutional rights and learning proper gun safety.

Kate:
My visit to Hillsdale was a wonderful experience. I believe that Hillsdale is not just a fine college, but an important college.
I wish I could do it all over again. College, I mean.
Do stay in touch.
