Video: Daniel Greenfield Delivers the 2017 Ariel Avrech Memorial Lecture

Tweet Fighting Anti-Semitism and Defending Israel in the Age of BDS Why does pro-Israel activism continue to be an uphill battle despite the enormous resources dedicated to it? Are we losing the war against anti-Semitism or are we failing to fight it? In a talk that applies the lessons of biblical Jewish history to current […]

But They’re Only Cartoons — IslamoNazi Jew-Hatred

Tweet In the Arab Muslim world, the evil Jew/Zionist is the scapegoat upon which all the ills of society are heaped. Arab Muslim propagandists claim that they don’t hate Jews; they are just criticizing Zionism. But of course, this is a lie designed to deflect attention from the Jew-hatred that is their mother’s milk. And […]

Brit Milah

Tweet The commandment of circumcision, brit milah, is found in Genesis 17:10-14 and Leviticus 12:3. The first Jew to be circumcised was Abraham, at G-d’s command. Brit milah is the first commandment specific to the Jewish people. Yesterday was our grandson’s brit, or circumcision ceremony. As sandek, I held the baby on my lap as […]

Passover: Liberty, Then and Now

Tweet Seraphic Secret rises at 5 a.m for a morning walk. The streets are empty save for the chug-chug-chugging of the pick-up trucks delivering newspapers. Sprinklers hiss, and lawns glisten. The air is lightly perfumed with jacaranda. I listen to a news round-up and feel—there is no way around this—sad and defeated.

2016: Obama’s America, Plus a Mild Digression About Bette Davis

Tweet Into the San Fernando Valley we rode, 10.2 miles from Casa Avrech, to see Dinesh D’Souza’s documentary 2016: Obama’s America. Karen ordered our tickets in advance through Fandango. There are no theater listings for 2016 in the LA Times. They claim there was a computer glitch, but I think we all know what’s really […]

Close Encounter Of A Breitbart Kind

Tweet Karen and I attended this 2011 Republican Jewish Coalition dinner in Beverly Hills where Andrew delivered a barn-burner of a speech. There was no teleprompter. Andrew had no notes. He just got up on the stage and shmoozed with the audience. This talk is notable because Andrew identifies his Conservative awakening with a Reform […]

New Comment System in Place

Tweet Robert asked me to inform the readers of Seraphic Secret that we scrapped the Intense Debate comment system because it was too complex and was causing too much confusion. As a result I reverted to the stock comment system that comes with WordPress along with a couple of bells and whistles that are designed […]

Vivien Leigh, Illness and The Voice

Tweet Vivien Leigh as Scarlett O’Hara. Tweet While filming Gone with the Wind, 1939 Viven Leigh was “indisposed” two days out of every month. She told producer David O. Selznik that her monthly flow was so severe work was physically and mentally impossible. In fact, there was one man (or woman) at every studio whose […]

Before Yom Kippur…

Tweet Before every major Jewish holiday, Karen and I visit our son, Ariel’s ZT’L, grave. Yom Kippur begins Sunday night and so, in advance of this most holy of days, we made sure to set aside time and drive to the cemetery in Simi Valley, about forty minutes from our home in Los Angeles. The […]

Speak Memory

Tweet Our son, Ariel Chaim ZT’L, loved Jewish music and one of his favorite performers was Mordechai ben David. I caught this video on Israel Matzav—Carl from Jerusalem was one of the first people to offer support when Ariel became ill—and I was immediately hit with a Proustian sense-memory of stepping into Ariel’s room, hearing […]

The Last Kaddish, Redux

Tweet Ariel ZT’L, on his Bar Mitzvah, 1994 On Yom Kippur, Karen, the girls and I will be reciting Yizkor, “Remember” the memorial prayer, for Ariel ZT’L. I am taking this opportunity to publish, once again, with minor editing, a short piece I wrote, back in 2004, when the period of official mourning was over […]

Always Sorry

Tweet You know that dopey movie Love Story, where the Ali McGraw, nostrils flaring, says to Ryan O’Neal: “Love means never having to say you’re sorry.” This just might be the dumbest thing I ever heard in my life. Truth is, I’m always apologizing to Karen. Eagerly apologizing. “I’m sorry I’m watching The Seven Samurai for […]
