Change, Well, Not Really

Israel’s friendly Palestinian neighbors prepare for some change
along the Gaza border.

I’m on my way out the door to a script conference. Oh, please G-d, don’t let the execs sit around bashing Governor Sarah Palin for the chit-chat portion of the meeting. They won. Can’t they just be gracious?

Anyhoo.

My friend Soccer Dad has posted an invaluable analysis of President-elect Obama’s probable playbook for diplomacy in the Middle East. I must tell you, we have seen this movie before, in the Carter administration, in the Clinton administration, and it always ends the same way, with lots and lots of dead Jews, and an emboldened IslamoNazi world.

I have a much better idea.

Do nothing.

Let the Palestinians earn the right to a state—though one could argue that happy-go-lucky Gaza is the Palestinian state—by acting responsibly and giving up terrorism. Believe me, if terrorism were taken off the table, that would be a game changer. Tragically, the Palestinians have built a toxic tribal culture that is reliant on violence, murder, intimidation and Jew-hatred.

Comment Rules

Seraphic Secret is private property, that's right, it's an extension of our home, and as such, Karen and I have instituted two Seraphic Rules and we ask commentors to act respectfully.

  1. No profanity.
  2. No Israel bashing. We debate, we discuss, we are respectful. You know what Israel bashing is. The world is full of it. Seraphic Secret is one of the few places in the world that will not tolerate this form of anti-Semitism.

That's it. Break either of these rules and you will be banned.

I’m sure I’m not the first (and probably won’t be the last) to say that his whole “blacklisting” of people who supported Prop. 8, and hearing that Hollywood “conservatives” are now having to meet low-key, is beginning to sound like a bit of history repeating itself. Only the names and ideals have changed. What’s next? Some liberal Senator being appointed to head up something like the “House Pro-American Activities Committee” to investigate the insidious behavior of Pro/Conservative/Religious Americans?? And I empathize with you, Mr. Avrech. I’m at the point where if I have to listen to one more Palin-bashing remark, I feel like I’m going to scream. Can someone please tell me what is slowly happening to this country, and why isn’t anyone focusing on THAT in their news commentary?? Oh yeah…I forgot. They’re too busy Republican/Conservative bashing while patting themselves on the back for being part of “history having been made.” Well, history is going to be repeating itself pretty soon here because no one seems to be able to remember it. And I’m sure I haven’t been the first/last to say THAT, either.
Sorry for going a bit off-track of your post with my comments.

The manager of El Coyote, a Mexican restaurant in Hollywood with a large gay clientele, is a Mormon and donated personal funds totalling $100.00 to support Prop 8.
I don’t know how this was learned – a database from somewhere – but it ignited a firestorm. You can check out a video of the meeting held at the restaurant here (http://www.insidesocal.com/outinhollywood/) and there is a link to more information.
Jonah Goldberg’s book (Liberal Fascism) was just prescient. Very sad for America.

Robert – I am somewhat of a history buff – wonder where Israel would be today if Ariel Sharon hadn’t had the stroke.

I read about the Scott Eckren episode this morning. Despicable. I wish he had held his ground & make them fire him outright. But, remember that those who pressured him are the tolerant ones.
“Battered Wife Syndrome.” Good one. Yet another example of the need to stand their ground.

Michael – that theater is up in Sacramento. Scott made the “mistake” of contributing $1000 which made his contribution a very public (and personal) record. These people – that seem to preach “tolerance” are anything but when you don’t agree with them.
Michal – Robert – that is the group – here is one article on it in the Washington Times:
    http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2008/jul/23/hollywoods-conservative-underground/
Wherever I read it I remember a couple of points – that if you are well established (bankable?) your conservatism is overlooked but if you are not well known…
I remember reading of a Hollywood guy (can’t remember his function) but he was a reservist just back from Iraq and was treated horribly.

I hated hearing about the blacklist. You can imagine that if the shoe were on the other foot, there would be a huge outcry.

What would happen if the fascists of the left discovered that over forty Orthodox California Rebbeim fasted to protest “the evil decree” (echoes of Purim) of the California court in favor of homosexual marriage.

Oh yeah, I belong to this semi-secret Conservative-Hollywood society.
And the first rule of the society is:
We’re not allowed to discuss said society.
We’ve got a neat secret handshake:-)

Why did Israel make Gaza Judenrein?
Because Israel suffers from The Battered Wife Syndrome. Or at least one segment of the population do.
I’ll let you guess which segment.

Bill, they’ve gone public now, it’s the “Friends of Abe.”
I THINK (or guess, I do not know) that they turned over Gaza because it was going to become a putrid terrorist state in any case. By turning it over, they just removed 8000 or so likely Jewish hostages from the center.

Speaking of blacklisting, a theater director in California named Scott Eckren has been essentially forced to resign from his job because his boss and his co-workers discovered he had donated money to an organization supporting Proposition 8. His crime was publicized, his theater was boycotted and protests were organized in a demand that he be fired.
Ah, the soothing march of the thought police.

Can someone explain to me why Israel insisted on turning Gaza over to the Palestinians? Then once they do so it is turned into a putrid terrorist state – which today seems to be justification for giving them more.
Robert your comment on the Hollywood meetings made me chuckle – I read somewhere that there is a semi secret Republican society in Hollywood where they meet…
Maybe the meeting place is like a 1930s speakeasy – where you have to knock on a door – a small sliding viewing window opens – you have to ask for “Vito” and it then opens?
Sounds like so much of the left likes to blacklist – exactly what they abhorred from the 1950s.
