Friday Fashion: Spring 2013 Ready-To-Wear

Seraphic Secret likes to follow trends in fashion. Our mission is to ignore the slutwear that parades as cutting edge design and focus instead on beautifully tailored outfits that are both flattering, ladylike, and modest.

As always, we do not highlight pant suits; they are a crime against femininity.

We are happy to report that the most interesting trend for Spring RTW ’13 is a refinement of the classic feminine silhouette. Overpowering volume and migraine-inducing patterns are, for the most part, absent; a good thing if you’re over 20 years-old and weigh more than a stalk of wheat. Instead, the best designers focus on clean lines that can be worn by actual female human beings.

The best outfits are a welcome flashback to the crisp glamour of Grace Kelly, Natalie Wood, Elizabeth Taylor, Audrey Hepburn, Kim Novak, Tippi Hedrin, Eva Marie Saint and Sophia Loren.

Monique Lhuillier serves up a hot cocktail dress that is perfect for a cool Hitchcock blonde. The pockets are for hiding a pistol.

Carolina Herrera works wonders with pleated silk, offering fluid movement and flattering proportions.

When Karen and I watch Project Runway, the evening’s highlights are not the clothing, but the zingers Michael Kors unleashes. The Kors customer likes to quietly strut her stuff. In this collection, Kors emphasizes “geometric glamour.”

The best of the Calvin Klein collection emphasizes the layering of light-as-air fabrics: laser cut black mesh over white silk, which produces a cinematic opitical vibration.

Temperley London, Kate and Pippa Middleton’s go-to designer, gorged on 50′s Sophia Loren movies, and comes up with an updated glam look. No Italian Neorealism here, thank goodness.

Ann Romney delivered her RNC speech in a lovely Oscar de la Renta number. Nobody outfits uptown swans better than ODLR. The godfather of NY fashion consistently delivers understated elegance and this season is no exception.

Karen and I wish all our friends and relatives a lovely and fashionable Shabbat.

Comment Rules

Seraphic Secret is private property, that's right, it's an extension of our home, and as such, Karen and I have instituted two Seraphic Rules and we ask commentors to act respectfully.

  1. No profanity.
  2. No Israel bashing. We debate, we discuss, we are respectful. You know what Israel bashing is. The world is full of it. Seraphic Secret is one of the few places in the world that will not tolerate this form of anti-Semitism.

That's it. Break either of these rules and you will be banned.

Entertaining how the top of the Temperley dress has an unabashed smiley on it.

    Barry:

The postmodern model is chosen for height, walk, weight, and the ability to properly feature clothing. A classically beautiful face is considered old school. Now, fashion thrives on “interesting features.” Which is often quite scary.

Sad that this part of the world has escaped from me. Thank you, Robert.

    Robert,

The fashions seem fine, but I don’t like the look of the models. No Dorian Leigh-Suzy Parker’s in this crowd.
