It’s been quite a week.
The RNC took center stage with a powerful message calling for a return to constitutional values, support for Israel, and a resounding rejection of the collectivist, big government tyranny being imposed by the current, extremist regime.
Hurricane Isaac brought disaster to some communities in the Big Easy, while Obama fiddled at — what else? — fund raisers.
America now heads into Labor Day weekend — sad sigh, have to hang up my seersucker suit — and then the real battle for America’s soul and her future begins in earnest as Obama and Romney slug it out in the battleground states.
Seraphic Secret has no weekend plans other than screening a bunch of movies that sit in the DVR, — can’t wait to see The Mouthpiece (1932) starring Warren Williams and the tragic Sidney Fox — and finally read Elia Kazan’s excruciatingly honest memoir, A Life.
Meanwhile, Offspring #2 sent a picture of Maayan Ariel that Seraphic Secret wants to share with our readers because, no doubt, we all need a moment in time that radiates innocence, joy, and hope for the future.

Ariel Chaim Avrech, ZT'L, May His Righteous Memory be a Blessing.

BB is lovely, no doubt of that. But Maayan and her butterfly are absolutely captivating.

BB is also an outspoken critic of the Islamists in France. She has been sued for so-called hate speech against Muslims several times.

I’ve read Kazan’s auto-bio. I think you’ll enjoy it. One of the most interesting things I got from it was Kazan’s insight about the basis both of his anger and his desire to please. It came to him after visiting his cousin who had never left Istanbul.

I’ve read about half the book and have already placed dozens of post-it notes flagging significant passages I want to share with my readers.
Kazan’s honesty in matters of his serial affairs makes me cringe.

Agree about the affairs, but to me the elephant in the room is that he and his future wife aborted their first child.

I have a file on Hollywood abortions that is two inches thick. It’s horrifying. Actress Kaye Francis, a Warner Bros. star in the early 30′s, had at least seven abortions, perhaps eight.

I bet Maayan will never grow up thinking ‘gee, that tatoo would look really cool on me.’ She seems to have enough common sense to know better.

Johnny, Bill:
Well, Maayan’s daddy has spoken.
I’ll just add that the Torah forbids Jews getting tattoos.
“You shall not make gashes in your flesh for the dead, or incise any marks on yourselves: I am the Lord” (Leviticus 19:28).
Maimonides includes the prohibition against tattoos in his writing concerning idolatry and states: “This was a custom among the pagans who marked themselves for idolatry….” But, [Maimonides] concludes that regardless of intent, the act of tattooing is prohibited (Mishneh Torah, Laws of Idolatry 12:11).
As for nose rings: There is no religious prohibition. But it is gross and low-rent, unacceptable in the Orthodox community.

Ass usual Maayan looks stunning. I can see her in about 15 years – getting off the plane at LAX – with an entourage of photographers meeting her, saying: Please, no more pictures today!
