Usually, we publish photos organized around a central theme.
Not today.
We’re feeling a bit scattered. We’re spooked by the Emperor Obama, by what’s happening to this country. And of course by the Arab Muslim war against the Jews. The Iranians are edging closer to becoming a nuclear power. We are watching various national and international calamities unfold in slow motion. We feel helpless. And there are days when we feel, yup, hopeless.
Anyhoo.
Here are a few photos that, we hope, will lift your mood.

And good vak! Nice pictures.
One wonders if Norma Jean on that day had any idea the turns her life would take
We saw a weird movie last night. It’s called The Homesman and is another in what I think are series of dark and hopeless images of American life coming out now. Certainly, the problem of pioneer women going crazy was real. The rest was a real downer.
A couple of weeks ago, I read Gone Girl with the idea of seeing the movie. That novel has over 28,000 customer reviews on Amazon.
I thought it was awful ! There is not a sympathetic character in it. I have not seen the movie.
Is this a trend ? The Depression saw a lot of light comedies, many of which included a character who was either a weakling concealing a strong guy like Superman, or a guy who seems to be a bum, like “My Man Godfrey” or the author taken for a tramp in “Merrily We Live.” In those movies, there was hope for the future, Godfrey rescues the rich family from failure as he is secretly a whiz at finance. One theme was that, just because a guy looks like a tramp (and many did), he may actually be a very smart guy.
Does this mean a loss of hope in the Obama era ? I don’t know.
Aside from adventures, like “Fury” which we saw last week, I don’t plan to see many new movies. I am looking forward to “American Sniper” since Clint made it.
Michael – there is one coming out next week about Alan Turing and the Enigma that I am waiting to see
I love the pictures, thank you for that, Robert. I’ll hope that you no longer feel hopeless: in movies, the good guys lose again & again. And then we win!
Thanks, a much needed, happy, diversion. regards, Alemaster
