I too like the Liz Taylor quote. I am wondering too of all her husbands by the time #6 came along (whoever that was) wouldn’t he have sense enough to think that it might not work? Or was her hold that strong? (Rhetorical question I guess).
That is sad about Veronica Lake. If we could only see ourselves as others see us.
US 97 is a great road. It starts in Weed, CA.
I know.
Great picture of Judy Garland but am I the only one who doesn’t like Wizard of Oz? I think it is boring.
That is a sad comment about Veronica Lake and, at least to me, explains a bit about her sad later years. Monroe was similar, I think; realizing that she had beauty which gave her power over men, but so insecure about herself that it would take her hours in front of a mirror to “become” MM.
And that photo of Elizabeth Taylor is mesmerizing. No wonder so many men loved her.
Robert, in your search for watches, do you ever come across modern pocket watches? I carry a model from 1917, because I don’t like to wear anything on my wrists.
May you have a happy and blessed weekend.
I do come across a few modern pocket watches. But they are pretty rare. I have another friend, a painter, who also carries a pocket watch because he can’t stand any weight on his wrist.
When I was a surgery resident at LA County in the 60s, a lot of us wore vests under white coats. Don’t ask me why, I can’t remember why. I had/have a pocket watch I carried in the vest. It was made by Arnex and is 17 jewels. Not very expensive. My initials are engraved on the cover.
Great photos today. When I was in college in the 50s, I saw Elizabeth T in “A Place in the Sun” maybe 50 times. It was a great story of the yearnings of young men then. Before the Pill.
I like Elizabeth Taylor’s quote, and I tend to agree with it. Her eyes were mesmerizing.
I like the Timex watches and I can afford the Timex watches. I followed the link and I love their “Snoopy Flying Ace” model, but I wish it had the day/date function.
I love the French movie poster. “Terreur sans nom” (Terror without a name)
The Cubs photo was taken just a few years before Chicago traded away a future Hall of Famer:
Lou Brock
I never was a fan of Judy Garland. I grew up liking The Wizard of Oz, but I liked all of the other things about it. Scarecrow, Tin Man, Cowardly Lion, even The Wizard were my focus in the movie, not the little girl.
Veronica Lake must have been a very unusual actress (celebrity). Most of “them” seem to think they are the most important, most attractive, and most interesting person in the room merely by their entrance into said room.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Veronica Lake was, tragically, bi-polar. Eventually, she ended up as an alcoholic waitress with rotting teeth.
