“Leave No Man Behind” is indeed powerful.
Jimmy Stewart was a wise, wise man.
Whoa – is Ariel Chaim a redhead? Wait till the missus finds out! (Her first question, when our first few kids were born, was “Is he/she a redhead?” She gave up at some point.)
Alter:
Ariel is actually blond. I scanned an uncorrected proof.
Man, do I enjoy Friday’s pictures! About those socks Robert, now I realize it’s Hollywood, but if you were walking down the street say in Hutto, Tx people would think you were a big city democrat from Austin. It would cause a considerable commotion, probably getting you banned from PTA meetings.
Well, when I’m in Texas I don’t wear my manly pink socks. When in Greece, etc:-)
That photo from WWII is powerful. The guy shooting is being carried by the other. No chance that would happen in Obama’s army, I fear.
Another powerful war photo is from Iraq and by Michael Yon who was too close to a fire fight.

Here is the wounded command sergeant major killing a jihadi in spite of having had his leg broken by a bullet. Incredible cool and bravery.

Thanks so much for the links
That’s EmeRic! (FrahnkenSTEEN!) (Do you think he had a brother Colin? Sorry) If you haven’t already done an article on Pressburger’s movies, please do! Or just on my favorite actor, Roger Livesey. (interesting roles, beautiful voice, nice face, sense of humor, and evidently a nice guy with a happy marriage). A Matter of Life & Death; Life & Death of Colonel Blimp; I Know Where I’m Going… Peeping Tom was not something I’d watch again, though.
Robert has Pressburger’s name right, in spirit if not fact.
Corrected. Thanks so much.
Far more important than spelling, will we be getting a comment from you on Trumbo ?
Yes, working on a post now.
Norma Shearer was never better presented than in this photograph. You can feel the inner light and beauty. Her comment however, though often true , is hardly definitive, unless of course someone wants to make it so.
Your comment piqued my curiosity; while looking for other pictures, I wound up here: http://oldhollywood.net/norma-shearer-fights-for-the-title/
I find it amazing that she was able to pull off so many different looks 🙂
re: The Norma Shearer quote. My mother-in-law, who was in the business for many years, used to say, “Be careful who you step on climbing the ladder of success. You will meet them again on the way down.”
