Dancing at The El Monte Legion Stadium, El Monte, CA, 1962

My father knew Lana Turner at Hollywood High. On the C type, they come regularly to the Monterey Historics. On Leslie Howard – true words! Didn’t know about the Churchill angle.
Poor Leslie Howard. He got on a plane with a man who looked like Churchill in Lisbon. As if Churchill would fly commercial. The Germans shot it down anyway.
A bit more info: https://lady.co.uk/why-did-nazis-murder-leslie-howard
….The plane was full, and they had to pull VIP status to have two passengers bumped off the flight.
Lucky 2!
I would keep the Timex if someone gave it to me, but I could not buy one for myself. The first thing that caught my eye was the tick marks in lieu of 3-6-9-12. I’m not a big fan of that. Then I saw the roman numerals at the 10-11 positions and my mind immediately thought “did they use IV or IIII for the 4 o’clock position? And that’s when my anxiety levels rose!
The 1962 hairdo in the dancing scene. That was a bouffant to end all bouffants. Lana Turner, the “Sweater Girl” musing about dress designing. She got away with stabbing Johnny Stompanato unless 14 year old Cheryl really did it.
I ran across a story that involved Sean Connery in the whole thing.
First time I’ve seen a C type Jaguar. Nice. Have a nice weekend.
What an interesting story! It seems that sex and logic (and common sense) are mutually exclusive. For men and women.
The D-Type is what naturally evolved from the C-Type. Both were made strictly for racing. Althopugh I believe the C-Type is a lot rarer. You should come to the Monterey Historic races sometime (although hotel pricing is scandalous)
And why, you wonder, do they call it a “California” dial?
