“They give me feeble-minded parts. I don’t object, you understand, but when the writers tell me they wrote the part with me in mind, I begin to wonder.”

Robert – have you ever read Marion Davies’ autobiography The Times We Had?
She talked of a time on set when Greta Garbo was there just staring at her – and it was unnerving. And said that Garbo always insisted that nobody outside the crew be allowed on her set.
I agree with Michael on the car..
On Spaghetti, I don’t believe there is a dignified way of eating it – although I use a spoon with the fork to “wind it up”.
Then I was told the Italians don’t do that.
Love the Spaghetti Factory – I should go back there. Love the Mizithra cheese spaghetti.
Have a good weekend!
Twirling the fork into the spoon marks spoon. Oh, well. Maybe that’s why the Italians don’t do that.
BTW, I’ve seen Mizithra at stores. Good stuff.
Bill:
Yes, I have read The Times We Had.
Now I want some spaghetti! I think I’ll have some tonight, after work. I remember the late humor writer Erma Bombeck doing a riff off of Loren’s comment “all I am I owe to spaghetti” and talking about how she, too, decided to do the “Loren diet” and only ended up fat. She concluded it was a sinister plot by Loren to make other women dumpy so she could remain thin and beautiful.
Robert, your pocket watch is absolutely beautiful. I have a Waltham just like it, which belonged to my great-grandfather.
A lovely weekend to you and yours.
“The Quiet Man” was such a family affair that it stands out in my mind. The village is now a tourist attraction. Maureen O’Hara’s two brothers and Ford’s brother were all in it with big parts. It is a classic like “Casablanca.” The Delahaye is too much art deco, or whatever, for me. The funniest video I have seen is of two Muslim women in burkhas eating spaghetti.
Have a nice weekend.
Happy Friday, Robert!
I know Garbo was immensely popular, but I don’t believe I’ve seen any of her films. She never married and there are “rumors” that she was bisexual. Unlike many of her cohorts, she invested wisely and died a very rich woman — alone and without heir, but rich.
Sophia Loren is beautiful.
Maureen O’Hara is one of my favorite actresses. I loved her paired with John Wayne and The Quiet Man is a personal favorite.
The Rolex (along with its California Dial) is not for me. Nothing about this design appeals to me.
The ’49 Delahaye is pretty, but I really thought it would be a 1930’s Art Deco design.
Hayley Mills is pretty, but aside from The Parent Trap, I don’t recall seeing any of her other films.
I don’t know anything about her works, but one has to feel bad for Miriam Hopkins.
In the Rodney Smith photo, I was so focused on the models that I didn’t see the Twin Towers in the background initially. I also like Rick’s photo. I like the patina and silver.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Joe,
Garbo did have an heir, a niece. She did not have a child, not the same thing. Sometimes, children are a pass.
You should catch The Flame Trees of Thika (1981) in which an adult Hayley Mills delivers a wonderful performance. The book on which it is based is also wonderful.
