A guten Shabbos!
I remember reading a biography on Marlene – and in the last part of he career – when she was in a stage show (wasn’t it a solitary show like Cary Grants?) – but she would give lighting directions on the stage to the stage hands – and they listened.
As I came to learn more about these classic stars – I wish I could have seen those shows….
Didn’t realize so many of the stars – Garbo, MM…worked so hard to look beautiful.
Raquel Welch (a solid Conservative) once said to me that being beautiful was her job, and it was “hard work.”
‘…And thereupon
That beautiful mild woman for whose sake
There’s many a one shall find out all heartache
On finding that her voice is sweet and low
Replied, ‘To be born woman is to know—
Although they do not talk of it at school—
That we must labour to be beautiful.’
(from “Adam’s Curse” by W.B. Yeats)

There’s a documentary about Vivien Mier online. Check Amazon, Hulu, Netflix, etc. I believe there were 4,000 unexposed negatives at the time of her death.
One question I forgot to ask, Robert. What is the context of the your photo, Silent Picture?
The photo is a close-up of paint on the sidewalk. I think it was a mark left by the DWP. It has since faded away.
Kudos again, Robert.
I am most interested in Vivian Maier’s photo. She was an interesting person. From what I’ve read, I wouldn’t agree with her ideology, but she had a fascinating eye for photography and, if I remember correctly, many of her negatives were never printed in her lifetime. Fascinating…
Have a wonderful Sabbath everyone!
