Iran’s Deadly Tempo

iafplanes.jpg

Wolf Howling analyzes the growing Persian threat:

Of the major foreign policy issues facing Obama, Iran ranks at least equal to Pakistan in near term criticality. As Obama gives signals of weakness and acquiescence, Iran is significantly increasing its deadly operational tempo throughout the Middle East. And that in addition to a nuclear weapons program that threatens to lead to nuclear proliferation on a nightmare scale. Obama’s response is to seek more talks—now unconditional—with even the threat of force apparently off the table. It is the stuff of deadly fantasy.

Read the rest here.

Meanwhile, the IAF conducted a very interesting midair refueling exercise. Take note of the distance flown:

Israel Air Force planes conducted exercises between Israel and Gibraltar, including midair refueling, according to a report published Saturday in the French weekly L’Express. The writer speculated that the distance of the exercises that were carried out, 2,361 miles (3,800 km) from Israel, appeared to confirm that the IDF is preparing to attack Iran if Teheran continues its refusal to end its nuclear program.

Two weeks ago, the London-based Sunday Times reported that Israel plans to attack Iran’s nuclear reactor using three AWAC planes. A senior military official was quoted as saying, “Israel wants to know that if its forces were given the green light they could strike at Iran in a matter of days, even hours. They are making preparations on every level for this eventuality. The message to Iran is that the threat is not just words.”

Full story at Arutz Sheva.

The Israeli strike on the Persian nuclear facilities will not be a small operation of a three or four F16′s. It will be a robust strike with massive cyber attacks on the Persian air-defense systems, dozens of attack jets, rescue planes, AWAC’s, and almost certainly special forces on the ground in Iran directing air strikes. The world will publicly condemn Israel, but in private these same people will breathe huge sighs of relief. The only people who want the Persians to go nuclear are—what a shock—the Persians, and rabid leftist Jew-haters who hide behind the fig-leaf of, ahem, academic anti-Zionism.

And what will the Persians do in response?

The same thing the Syrians did when Israel knocked out their nuclear facility.

Nothing.

When you hit back at bullies, they retreat into their holes and lick their wounds. Bullies are, by nature, cowards and the Persians, who excel in murdering women and children, are no different.

Make no mistake about it, allowing Iran to possess nuclear weapons opens the door to the proliferation of nuclear terrorism.

Things with Persia are getting even more complicated as Iran launches air strikes in Iraq, attacking Kurd villages.

Seraphic Secret is private property, that's right, it's an extension of our home, and as such, Karen and I have instituted two Seraphic Rules and we ask commentors to act respectfully.

  1. No profanity.
  2. No Israel bashing. We debate, we discuss, we are respectful. You know what Israel bashing is. The world is full of it. Seraphic Secret is one of the few places in the world that will not tolerate this form of anti-Semitism.

That's it. Break either of these rules and you will be banned.

And all the world cares about is Jewish building in Judea and Samaria and Jerusalem.
    Gevalt! Something “stinks.”

Why can’t people see evil when it is staring them in the face. I know there were people in the 30s that underestimated how evil Stalin and Hitler were but it can’t be as bad as today where so many people think Iran or Pakistan are just quircky cultures deserving of respect.
I spent Sunday talking to WWII vets at a BBQ to raise money to send them to D.C. to see the WWII Memorial. Talking to these men that marched across Europe and N Africa as well as a pilot from the USS Lexington was a reminder that there was a time when Americans were not concerned about how many of the enemy were killed. The vets from the European campaign talked about how frustrating it was to be held back from charging to Berlin. They talked about the great joy they felt at hearing that Yamamoto had been killed or the cheers that went up when word came that the Zuikaku, the last carrier that had been part of the attack on Pearl Harbor, was sunk. Every vet and their wives were thrilled that the A bomb had ended the war before the Japanese homeland had to be invaded (with the knowledge of massive casualties).
After Pearl Harbor this country was united in fighting evil – good luck finding anyone that thought Germany or Japan had a legitimate grievance. All Americans reveled in inflicting punishment and casualties on the enemy because we knew we were on the side of the angels. Even after 9-11 our country was not united against punishing and defeating the muslim enemies. I shudder to think what it will take for the scales to fall from liberal eyes.

    Jon:
I have no confidence in Obama taking on Iran after an IDF attack on their nuclear facilities. Iran will blame the US for giving Israel the green light and Obama will have to decide between defending our greatest ally in the ME or having the Euro-weenies think he is a neocon. Obama will think his wonderful speaking skills will win over the mullahs and he’ll give a Rodney King speech asking ‘can’t we all get along”?
An attack on Iran will not be easy but the IDF is second in skill to the USAF, USN & Marine pilots. Even without US cooperation my money is on the IDF.

If there is a war Israel should ultimately emerge victorious. However I think it is a strategic folly to equate Iran with Syria. Iran’s much better equipped to fight back and Israel will suffer considerable losses. That of course does not mean that Israel should not take necessary action, but only that any strategic action on Israel’s part should thus assume a good margin of retaliation and plan accordingly. It’s best to overestimate your enemy than underestimate him.

Not that I want the world to go to hell in a handbasket but if we have to, let the Iranians go there first. If Israel can withstand the pummeling to follow, although probably not as much as Iran thinks they can, then God bless and God speed.
Since Iran has threatened to attack US interests also, with Diego Garcia and 1 or 2 aircraft carrier battle groups poised, any attack on us by the Iranians, unless obambi is a total fool or coward, will also result in no Iranian Navy and
prolonged hits on armour, air and missle sites, in self defense of course, whether we gave a green light to anyone or not :) Iran would be between a rock and a hard place and if by some happenstance they were to sink a carrier or even two, I would not put it past us to use tactical nukes to make sure the iranian nuclear sites never ever are functional again as well as all their large military bases. Now as to if this would pull in the Russians?? That is another order of magnitude to ponder.

I have long maintained that Israel cannot afford to rely upon anyone else. It is just too dangerous.

Thank you for the link Robert, it is much appreciated.
Given the state of discontent in Iran – and given that, by all accounts, the mad mullahs have been the leading cause of a massive rise in secularism in Iran – I truly wonder whether the anti-semitism displayed by the regime fanatics extends down to any great degree to the populace. Perhaps, but I do not know.
At any rate, my belief is that Israel must carry out the attack, with or without U.S. support. My true regret will be that this will likely not be conducted as a joint operation. Israel has every right to expect the U.S. to stand shoulder to shoulder with them on this, though with Obama in power, that has no chance whatsoever of occurring.

If Irans allowed to build a nuclear device, we call all look forward to the day when much of the middle eastern oil reserves are too radioactive to use and much of the area is a glass parking lot.

I sent you the story about the UCSB professor before realizing you had already linked to it.
    Some thoughts on this “professor”:
You have to attack these guys on the basis of their own defense.
    1) You say you are worried about academic freedom. Okay, can you guarantee that any student who sends out a similar email to the entire class refuting your claims won’t be penalized academically? Can you guarantee that the fear of reprisals won’t kill such an email from ever being sent.
    2) Do students really ever have the same “free” speech rights that professors have? This is not a discussion among equals. Realistically, students always feel a little, if not very intimidated.
    3) Other than the pictures that you emailed out, what independent research have you done to verify any of this? The last time I checked, academics were required to have put in some independent study in the field in which they want to teach. Your opinions are certainly allowed under the principles of academic freedom, but do those principles also make it okay for an illiterate person to teach Shakespeare?
I taught at NYU for 6 years. Let me tell you that I would come to class every night PRAYING that some students… maybe just one… would DISAGREE with me. I didn’t want them to be rude, but a real disagreement is better than the ultimate horror of hearing crickets when you finish making points in a lecture or presentation.
My dad went from teaching at easy-to-get-into CUNY schools to the super-great University of Virginia in 1989. And he was immediately feeling like something was missing because all he had were these smart, but too well-mannered Southern students who added little to the classroom debate. “I need some smart-ass New Yorkers in my class, Jake!” my dad would say. Eventually, he got a good group of Evangelical students who turned out to be fair and well-mannered, but still lively debators. Far from the way they’re portrayed as being mindless religious drones, Evangelicals at non-sectarian universities are often the most intellectual students.
Any professor who sends stuff out like this email is looking to ram his opinion through, he’s not interested in discussion. I mean, what kind of student will try to defend people who he’s calling Nazis? None. And that’s the idea.
These are not educators by any stretch.

I have this theory about upcoming world events. The predictors are not on the front page of the newspaper, but rather 10-20 pages back. I remember reading about 1-2 years ago of Israel’s buying 5,000 “bunker busting” bombs from the US. On page A23.
I also like to play “what if” scenarios. “What if” Iran does get the Bomb? How will this affect Saudi Arabia or Egypt?
Well, most likely they will want one too to combat the mullah’s influence.
I suspect should Israel successfully disable Iran’s program there will be a collective sigh of relief from Riyadh to Cairo.
