Yesterday, Karen and I heard cars honking their horns in the middle of the afternoon.
We wondered: What is going on? Is there some kind of disaster beyond the virus?
We stepped out of our home and discovered cars draped in Israeli flags driving through our neighborhood, honking their horns and playing Jewish/Israeli music.
Jews of all ages were lining the sidewalks—observing the mandated physical distance—cheering and waving Israeli and American flags.
In the midst of this awful pandemic, in the midst of crushing unemployment, the loss of education for the young, and the thousands of unintended consequences which will burn through America, those who love Israel poured into the streets of our Los Angeles neighborhood to express their love of Zion.
Karen and I just exchanged looks, understanding that we were witness to something very special.
We were happy. We were proud.
Am Yisroel Chai!
