The decision by the Democrats to provide cover for Ilhan Omar’s Jew-hatred is a turning point in American politics, perhaps in American history.
In the past, Jew-hatred in America was a social distaste: Jews were barred from certain country clubs, hotels, and law firms. Admission to Ivy League universities was limited by quotas.
The American government was never institutionally anti-Semitic.
Gradually, this soft, social Jew-hatred crumbled and Jews were, for the most part, accepted into American culture as full partners. Unlike European Jew-hatred—whose foundations lay in European Christianity—American Christians were, from the founders on, deeply attached to the Torah, the Jewish bible. In fact, the early settlers considered establishing Hebrew as the language of the New World.
Attitudes started to change after 1967 when the American Left aligned itself with the Arabs against Israel.
The left, always steeped in Jew-hatred (Marx was a rabid Jew-hater) realized that they could demonize Israel yet claim that this was simply political discourse rather than poisonous Jew-hatred.
The left understood that after Auschwitz Jew-hatred had developed something of a bad rep in polite circles.
Barack Obama, the first American President to openly loathe the Jewish State, made it policy to create daylight between America and Israel. His administration crafted the dangerous nuclear deal with Iran which basically said: The Jewish state is expendable.
Wisely, President Trump reversed the Obama policies in regard to Israel. The Iran deal has been put on the ash heap of history, and finally, the American Embassy has been moved to Jerusalem, Israel’s capital. Relations between Israel and America have never been warmer.
Almost in reaction to President Trump’s obvious affection for Israel and the Jewish people, the Democrat Party, now the Democrat-Socialist party, has three new members who are: female, radical leftist socialists, and rabid Jew-haters: Ilhan Omar, Rashida Tlaib, and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
Ilhan Omar has been a known Jew-hater for quite some time. Jews in Minnesota even tried to sit down with her and talk about their concerns but came away convinced that Omar’s hatred of the Jewish people is pathological. It does seem odd that a refugee from Somalia, who spent time in a Kenyan refugee camp, should come to America and blame Jews for her rough childhood, but hey, that’s the thing about hating Jews, it never needs a rational justification. And it works.
Tlaib loudly identifies as a Palestinian. She supports BDS and her associations are firmly rooted in the genocidal Arab terrorist world. Shocking that she hates Jews, I know.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez had a phone conversation with British Nazi Oswald Mosley’s spiritual animal, Jeremy Corbyn, two weeks ago and just couldn’t stop gushing about their deep connection. She, natch, supports BDS, and just sent out a fund raising letter telling her supporters that it’s time to end America’s relationship with Israel. This letter comes right after Pelosi instructed her Democrat-Socialist troops to provide cover for Omar. Talk about timing.
This is how collaborators work their way into the body politic. This is how Jew-hatred spreads like cancer into the bloodstream of society.
I do not expect my Jewish friends on the left to admit that they have become collaborators to Jew-hatred. They will smile condescendingly and tell me that I am overreacting, that I don’t understand the complexities of building coalitions. They will say that they are against all hatred.
I, on the other hand, am not against all hatred. I hate evil; I hate those who appease evil; and I hate those who collaborate with evil.
I am also steeped in Torah Judaism, and Jewish history. I know that thousands of Jews chose to stay in Egypt as slaves rather than take part in the Exodus. I know that Jews in ancient Persia joined King Ahasuerus at his feasts where the utensils from the Holy Jewish Temple were used as dinner plates. I also know that the Maccabees fought not only the pagan Assyrians, but engaged in a bloody civil war against the liberal Jews who made common cause with the progressive Greek Assyrian culture.
Tragically, secular Jews have always been Torah Judaism’s greatest enemy.
Pelosi did the math. She can’t afford to lose the Congressional Black Caucus, who absolutely adore the proud Jew-hater Louis Farrakhan. She has the Socialist-Bernie wing, classic Bolshevik Jew-haters. And of course she’s got the new kids on the block who are intersectional gold. Further, she’s also not going to alienate Linda Sarsour and her Jew-hating mob. Pelosi knows that the Jews on the left will vote Democrat—no matter what—because that’s their real religion. And the Jewish Orthodox vote, overwhelmingly Republican, barely registers in the American demographic.
So yes, Jews, as always, are expendable.
In synagogue this past Shabbat, a friend joined me after services and said: “Well, if they can support infanticide, they can, y’know…”
