Jews and Guns

YouTube Preview Image

Okay, no Jews in this clip of William Shatner from the TV series Boston Legal. But because most liberal American Jews make believe the Second Amendment does not exist, or does not mean what it says, or believe that inanimate objects are evil, I frequently link the words Jew and Gun in the same sentence.

H/T Bookworm Room

Update: Our good friend Jake Novak, Senior Producer of the excellent Varney Report on Fox News, reminds us that Shatner is Jewish, thus “Jews and Guns” as a title is not totally random.

Comment Rules

Seraphic Secret is private property, that's right, it's an extension of our home, and as such, Karen and I have instituted two Seraphic Rules and we ask commentors to act respectfully.

  1. No profanity.
  2. No Israel bashing. We debate, we discuss, we are respectful. You know what Israel bashing is. The world is full of it. Seraphic Secret is one of the few places in the world that will not tolerate this form of anti-Semitism.

That's it. Break either of these rules and you will be banned.

That robber is going to need a good attorney to defend him. Maybe he could get Denny Crane… he’s a big shot.

Sorry for the aside, Robert, but don’t you have a search function on the blog anymore? I don’t see one down the right column. I was going to search for something you had mentioned about Downton Abbey, but all I see are links to archives and I have no idea when you wrote about it. Just curious if it was removed during the last redesign, or something I can’t see using my PC and Firefox.

ProphetJoe, try doing a Google search while naming this site, e.g. Downton Abbey site:Seraphicpress.com.  That usually works for me.

        Prophet Joe:

Thanks for letting me know. We’re looking into the missing search function right now. Hope to have it up and running very soon.

Wow – great clip!  And the liberals are all thinking – “how terrible” while the sane amongst us are cheering Denny on!   Well  – I choose not be a victim – finally got myself a Glock 19 – took a course on handling guns – got myself a safe – a stock of bullets – and I sleep better now. Thank goodness more and more of my frum friends here in Lakewood are doing the same.

“believe that inanimate objects are evil”

This belief was strongly on display when, shortly after 9/11, the idea of having airline pilots carry guns was mooted.

One TV commentator said it would make her “nervous” to know that the pilot of her plane was carrying a gun…clearly, in her mental world, a gun is an icon of such negative power than context becomes unimportant.

David – it is a mystery why these people transfer the evil act from the actual perpetrators to the possible tool that they would use.

This being a web site devoted to movies I always liked the speech John Wayne’s character said to Ron Howard’s character when teaching him to shoot in The Shootist – or was it Alan Ladd’s character in Shane teaching Brandon de Wild in Shane?

A few Chardonnays after dinner and I must confess I have the 2 blurred ;-)   – but I remember the speech -

This is nothing but a tool – no better or worse than the person using it

Shane said “A gun is a tool, Marian; no better or no worse than any other tool: an axe, a shovel or anything. A gun is as good or as bad as the man using it. Remember that.”
John Wayne’s character, J.B. Books, said “I won’t be wronged, I won’t be insulted, and I won’t be laid a hand on. I don’t do these things to other people, and I require the same from them.”
Both are still sound philosophies to live by.

Joe – both were very powerful and memorable scenes.

And you are right – it was Shane….
Another memorable line from The Shootist – when he is being held up outside Carson City, he is handing over his wallet “and a little something extra”!
It was a similar scene to Denny Crane except not in a parking lot but the high desert of Nevada’s Carson Valley.

I gotta dig both those DvDs out and screen them again.

I’ll bet I have seen that clip a dozen times and I still laugh when Denny pulls the pistol. I ordered the DvD God On Trial , which is supposed to be based on a true story about some Jews in Auschwitz holding a trial in their barracks, with G*d as the defendant.

My friend Larry said that he had some problems with some of the movie’s theological assertions but point is why would a people who have been subject to so much evil over the millennium be adverse to firearms?

It is a paradox to me.

    Barry:

Yes, Boston Legal was ultra liberal and Denny Crane was supposed to be out of it, but as often happens in Hollywood, the subtext emerges as being even more powerful than the surface.

Really great fun and on side, but Denny Crane is supposed to be “troubled” intellectually. Early onset Alzheimer’s disease. Boston Legal was  liberal-liberal.
