Media Blackout on Benghazi Massacre

Sunday, when morning television is wall-to-wall news programs, Benghazigate was a no-show, except on Fox, where Chris Wallace made this emerging scandal the focus of his Sunday panel.

My friend, Joel Pollak, over at Breitbart.com, reports on a media blackout.

The mainstream media’s silence on the Benghazi disaster reached deafening levels on Sunday, as hosts of four out of the five major news shows—with the exception of Fox News Sunday—failed to raise the issue. Only Bob Schieffer of CBS gave it serious consideration, and only after it was raised by Sen. John McCain.

When the Benghazi issue did surface, other than on Fox, it was invariably brought up by Republican guests, and then deflected by the hosts, who largely ignored new stories this week that implicated the White House in the decision not to intervene to save the life of U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens and other American staff.

If a free press is the hallmark of a free people, one must conclude that the mainstream media — NBC, ABC, CNN, and CBS — have voluntarily surrendered their freedom in favor of becoming propagandists for one man, one party.

The media are not stupid; they understand that if the truth of the Benghazi massacre emerges — Obama’s dereliction of duty, and the subsequent cover-up — Obama will lose the 2012 election by a landslide.

As it is, Obama will lose by 5 to 8 points.

Meanwhile, Hillary will not go gentle into that good night:

Last night, it was revealed that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton had ordered more security at the U.S. mission in Benghazi before it was attacked where four Americans, including U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens were murdered by Al-Qaeda but President Obama denied the request.

The news broke on TheBlaze TV’s “Wilkow!” hosted by Andrew Wilkow, by best-selling author, Ed Klein who said the legal counsel to Clinton had informed him of this information.

Klein also said that those same sources said that former President Bill Clinton has been “urging” his wife [Hillary] to release official State Department documents that prove she called for additional security at the compound in Libya, which would almost certainly result in President Obama losing the election.

Comment Rules

Seraphic Secret is private property, that's right, it's an extension of our home, and as such, Karen and I have instituted two Seraphic Rules and we ask commentors to act respectfully.

  1. No profanity.
  2. No Israel bashing. We debate, we discuss, we are respectful. You know what Israel bashing is. The world is full of it. Seraphic Secret is one of the few places in the world that will not tolerate this form of anti-Semitism.

That's it. Break either of these rules and you will be banned.

Amb Stevens seemed like a happy Democrat (an impression supported by his family’s request to not “polticize” his death). Their moving web site http://www.rememberingchrisstevens.com is unique. Yet I can’t help but think they too would want some questions answered (honestly).

Our condolences to Amb Stevens’ family. Unfortunately, his death, and the death of the others is, by its very nature, a political event. We, the American people deserve answers to some serious questions.

The name Obama doesn’t belong in the same sentence as “Commander in Chief”.

If Obama had applied for work in the CIA or the State dept. he would have been rejected as a security threat based on his background. That he is POTUS is almost science fiction.

The media aren’t just covering up a single scandal, they are covering up three separate scandals that cost American lives.

    1. The refusal to authorize additional security in Benghazi, despite repeated requests for more security and a situation that was clearly becoming more dangerous by the day. That had to come from a political policy decision – and that means either Obama or Clinton . . . and as you point out above, it seems to be Obama.

    2. The refusal to send additional assets to Benghazi during the seven hour between the start of the attack and the final overrunning of the annex. Assets were available. Panetta has gone on to claim that it is military doctrine not send force into a chaotic situation without enough intelligence. That is perhaps the biggest lie I have heard so far as regards Benghazi. We had two drones on station providing real time visuals, plus we had continuous ground reports and a SEAL prepared to paint the enemy mortar position with a laser. Bottom line, as I wrote here, “Panetta had better real time intelligence than 99.99% of all military commanders in history have ever had when deploying troops.” The decision not to push down military assets was an utter operational failure – risk aversion borne wholly out of political considerations. That is another decision that Obama had to be a part of, since only he could decide whether to violate the air space of a non-combatant nation.

    3. Then of course there is the third part of the scandal, the multi-week effort of the administration to portray the planned terrorist attack in Benghazi as merely one more example of Muzzie outrageous outrage over a slight to Allah.

The MSM needs to be held to account for their failures and bias. Over the next four years, we can’t let America forget the role the MSM have chosen to play on behalf of Obama. As Instapundit is wont to say, they are now just Democrats with bylines.

The media is on a slow march to irrelevancy (see Newsweek).

They deserve to go there faster.

You must see Pat Caddell’s outrage at this coverup. And Caddell is a lifelong Democrat who adivsed Carter and worked as a top aide in Biden’s ’88 campaign for president.

Never have I seen Ann Coulter overshadowed by another guest on a show. Caddell was so open and honest about how he felt it was as if he belonged on Oprah instead of a news show.

And everything he said was true. We may never see Coulter agree 100% with a Democrat on a panel with her.

I wonder if the Romney campaign might consider offering Hillary to stay on as State, if she went public and Ghazigate blew wide open, and clinched the election for Romney.

Hillary isn’t so bad if her hands weren’t tied with ridiculous Obamacrap.
(Ann Coulter preferred her over McCain ).

Certainly not! The fact that Hillary went along with the coverup and the lies about the “terrible video” being the cause of a “spontaneous demonstration” – that she actively lied to the American people for political reasons – that she is persecuting the video-maker in an effort to deflect from obama’s deriliction – that she has dishonored the heroes who fought and died in Benghazi……should forever disqualify hillary clinton from ever holding any public office in America.
That she knew the truth and blatantly lied to all of America makes her as guilty as obama and his gang.

That’s why I still don’t understand why Romney didn’t bring it up at the third debate, once he saw that there was a reasonable moderator, and it was definitely on topic at a foreign policy debate.
It doesn’t matter that Obama was prepared. All his cover up lies would have made himself look even worse!

I have no idea what might have been in Romney’s mind about not bringing Benghazi up, but it seems to me that letting Obama stew in the “Buck Stops Here” aspects as all the facts & timetables come out is wise. Those facts & timetables can’t be spun against Romney. They can only cast the well-deserved shadow on Obama who is spinning far faster than an old 78. I suspect it would be very rhetorically smart for Romney to leave that topic untouched.

I expect Hillary’s “leak” was engineered by Bill. It was perfect to put enough information out there to save her future Presidential bid while not being overt or plausible enough to really threaten the Democratic party’s chances.
As for Bill, the man’s a marvel of political instincts and self interest. It’s a shame we can’t weaponize him and launch him as an anti-Putin or anti-Ahmadinejad weapon of political mass destruction.
