This year, instead of the Ariel Avrech Memorial Lecture, my wife Karen and I dedicated a new Torah in our son’s blessed memory.
The ceremony took place last week. The video should be up here at Seraphic Secret in a few weeks.
Ariel was a Torah scholar infused with the love of Judaism. Thus, there is no more appropriate way of memorializing our son.
There were three speakers at the event: Rabbi Elazar Muskin of The Young Israel of Century City, Karen’s brother, Rabbi David Singer of Efrat, Israel, and Rabbi Eliezer Gross, Dean of Yeshiva Gedolah of Los Angeles. All three spoke beautifully and from the heart. There were few dry eyes in the synagogue.
Family and friends flew in from Israel, Georgia, Arizona, Texas, and New York, which made for a special and holy Shabbat. Every minute of the weekend summoned memories of Ariel.
