Here at Seraphic Secret we try to remain optimistic. However, after six years of Obama, this state of mind becomes increasingly difficult to maintain.
IslamoNazis are on the march all across the globe. Iran edges closer to becoming a nuclear power even as Obama touts what a good friend Iran could be. ObamaCare is, as we knew it would be, a disaster. Perhaps most disturbing of all is the ubiquitous presence of the race baiting, tax cheating Al Sharpton in the White House. Sharpton is no ordinary professional demagogue like Barack Obama. Sharpton is a proven liar, and a toxic Jew-hater who provoked a pogrom in Brooklyn that lead to multiple deaths.
And this is the man who has become Obama’s de facto Minister of Blackishness, or something.

And so, as we move into 2015, we are wary of what the last two years of ObamaWorld will bring.
Seraphic Secret takes comfort in family, friends, and community.
And, as always, we are inspired by near perfection of some classical Hollywood movies that provide images that nourish the need for love and romance that promise a form of eternity.
Here is a clip from one of out favorite movies, Waterloo Bridge (1940), starring Vivien Leigh and Robert Taylor (b. Spangler Arlington Brugh), a tale of tragic love during wartime. Notice that once they start dancing there is no dialogue. The lighting, music, the movement, the reaction shots, the dousing of the candles is all that’s needed to evoke a torrent of conflicting emotions.

Karen and I wish all our friends and relatives a Happy New Year.
Great pic of Rita Hayworth. I named my latest motorcycle Rita because she was red. Custom paint job, now she’s red and black which kinda fits w Rita’s Spanish background.
Anyway, I read a lot of different news, the Guardian ran a piece on racism in the USA and I was almost tempted to sign on so I could link this piece in the comments – http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2014/12/29/obama-is-right-on-race-the-media-is-wrong.html
Ignore the headline, read the piece. Keli Goff makes an important point, people are people and mostly decent, regardless of political and media diatribes.
I doubt that Baz, or any member of the Washington political class, would have the slightest idea of what it’s like to live the life of most folks, whether they run a store that’s open 14 hours a day or renovate houses and lay out $30K on labour and materials, trusting that the client will pay.
“Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn” what hue of flesh you bear or which deity/deities you pray to. Ethnicity and religion have little to do with decency and honesty. Tho, having said that and being an irreligious theist, I thought this piece to be one of the best I’ve read; it touches upon many points that are worth expanding – http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2015/01/01/no-gods-no-cops-no-masters.html
I wish all Seraphic Secret readers a joyous New Year, may your 2015 be crammed full of great good fortune for you and your love ones.
“Holiday Inn” is one of my favorites with Marjorie Reynolds, Louise Beavers, & the great Walter Abel supporting Astaire & Crosby. As I recall, it was initially done as an excuse to use lots of Irving Berlin tunes, including a couple of poor quickies. The firecracker dance scene is my favorite although most people remember it for introducing “White Christmas.” Astaire’s drunk dance is my 2nd favorite scene. I’ve always preferred “Holiday Inn” to its bare remake
Haven’t seen “Waterloo Bridge” in almost a decade. Great movie.
My favorite movie with a New Year’s Eve theme is one that hardly ever comes around. I’ve only seen it twice, many years apart, and last time was at least 20 or 30 years ago: “Repeat Performance” with the great Joan Leslie, who, bless her heart, is still alive. Go out of your way to see this film if you can find it.
