I'm an Emmy Award winning screenwriter. I'm also an observant Jew, a religious Zionist, a conservative Republican, and a member of the NRA. I've been writing and producing in Hollywood for over twenty-five years. But the focus of my life is my family: my radiant wife, Karen—with whom I have been in love with since I was nine years-old—and my two daughters, who, thankfully, look like Karen. Not too long ago, we had three children. But our son, Ariel, died at the age of twenty-two from cancer. We miss him terribly. We think about him practically every minute of every day. People tell us that time heals, but Karen and I know this is not true. Time grinds away doing its terrible work. Ariel is gone. Yet absence becomes presence.

Pat Condell’s speech about the liberal chattering classes and their BIGOTRY, their “soft bigotry of low expectations” towards the Arabs in general and the now-so-called “Palestinians” in particular, is brilliant and on-target. The left liberals DON’T expect Arabs to behave like civilized human beings. But he is perhaps wrong to use the word RACIST. The ESSENCE of racism is the belief in INNATE differences, and I don’t think that the left liberals believe that the Arabs are born that way.

Hey Robert! Why is it OK for Brianna to call Haredim “nuts”? Don’t we want to “debate, discuss and be respectful”?

Nuts is definitely borderline. But feel free to refute that charge. I know many Haredim, close friends, who are far from nuts. Some of the sanest, mots decent people on this planet. Perhaps Brianna is referring to the nut jobs in Nitueri Karta? Problem is, the very word Haredi covers far too many groups and sub-groups.

As I understand it, the injunction to “be respectful” refers to other commenters, in our exchanges with them. It would not preclude a statement such as Brianna’s, which was not directed toward any particular commenter. I say this as someone who Brianna would likely consider “haredi,” and thus nuts. Not that I give two hoots about her opinion, on this or any other question.

Sadly, as I’m sure you know, Condell is a raving atheist. Or claims to be one. He knows. He just hates it that G-d is there, “messing up” his own life.
He would gladly say similar things about Haredi Jews, *has* said similar things about orthodox Christians, and so on. With Mohammedans, much of what he says is correct, but he will attempt to do this to anyone with any religious sensibility.

Oh, he has said stuff like that about the haredim. And from what I know of the haredim, he was calling it like it was; they’re wacky at best and repressive at worst. On the other hand, he started out that particular video with the information that he was apparently getting complaints from his viewers because he never put out scathing critiques of the Jews. In response, he said that the reason he didn’t much criticize the Jews was that “Generally speaking, the Jews don’t care WHAT you believe as long as you leave them the h*ll alone. I like that.”
Look, in any religious group you’ll get some nuts. The haredim are pretty nuts, with a single big virtue that they don’t prosletyze. Some Christians are pretty nuts (cough FLDS cough Jehovah’s Witnesses cough) with a big virtue that if you tell them to go away, they go, and if you insult them, they don’t try to kill you. If Condell wants to have fun ranting at them, he can be my guest. But Condell gets a lot of credit, in my book, for concentrating the majority of his rhetoric on the religion that is truly wacky and has shown itself fundamentally incapable of coexisting with Western Civilization. Good for him.

Hi. I tumbled onto your blog when your post about the Rodney King Riot got passed around in the wake of the Sandy Hook shooting. I just wanted to say hello, thanks for sticking up for the 2nd amendment, and (since you clearly care about the subject deeply), long live the State of Israel.
