Those who suffer from migraine headaches are struck with pain that is off the charts.
Some get migraines just a few times a year, others suffer debilitating attacks a few times a week. I’ve had pretty serious migraines since I was a child. Over the years I’ve learned to identify certain triggers that will almost certainly bring on a killer headache: lack of sleep, fasting, spicy food, liquor, perfume, cigarette smoke, flashing lights (I avoided the disco 80’s), loud music, air travel, are the most prominent.
I’ve also learned that the best way to avoid migraines is by keeping to a steady routine.
Over the years I’ve tried every major migraine medication on the market. Unfortunately, nothing has helped. I count on my own sense of discipline (some say rigidity) to avoid migraines.
Recently, my physician suggested a new drug called Aimovig which has just been approved by the FDA. He said that the trials were quite encouraging.
I was not encouraged.
If there’s one thing I’ve learned as a migraine patient seeking relief, is not to hold out hope. Migraine cures are like Hollywood: they crush you with hope.
You inject Aimovig just once a month. If you are lucky, the frequency of migraines will lessen if not disappear.
After two treatments I can report that I’ve had almost 50% fewer migraines.
I actually think that this new medication is working.
I hate to say it, but I have hope.
Note: Aimovig are not advertisers here on Seraphic Secret, nor have a been paid for this blog post. I write this because I know that some of my readers also get migraines and I offer my story in the hope that you might speak to your physician about this medication and determine of it’s appropriate for you.
